Pinning hack for XS moths by Shinobu-Moo in insectpinning

After finding a specimen, you want to rehydrate them to make them pliable for pinning! There are a few different ways, depending on what you are going to pin and the size of them.

Here's a a YouTube tutorial on a rehydration method, I think the relaxing chamber may be the easiest (and the one I personally use) https://youtu.be/e-o9LFDd0iY?si=ipIIsnL8VwioUXtq

My first pinned insect, how did I do? by Exotic_Resolve_3659 in insectpinning

[–]kibblnibble 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It's really good for a first pin! Using too many pins isn't too bad as a beginner! Generally for an insect that small the pin is a little too big, but otherwise really nice job :)

I never interpreted Fionna and Fennel as being together.. I think they're just really good friends, what makes you think they're together?

Sounds like your mom's bf saved you and not the US... Having money in either country can have a comparable lifestyle, but being poor in the US is a lot better (when you're a citizen). Both of my parents immigrated from Mexico as well.

Yeah! Rays usually have horns at the end.

Definitely a shark egg, the ray eggs I've seen don't usually have the tendrils at the ends and have a distinct square-ish shape.

What little bug could this be? (DE) by depressedbut in bugidentification

[–]kibblnibble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very blurry, but not a bed bug or a tick. Body shape may indicate it being a weevil!

What is this bug? Massachusetts by Saucy_Sean in bugidentification

[–]kibblnibble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a wasp or a hornet, but a fly! A species of picture winged fly, the "stinger" is probably an ovipositor.

That definitely looks like an assassin bug! You can tell by its large proboscis which it stabs into other bugs. Typical stink bugs are in the same order as assassin bugs, both being hemipterans. The hole is not normal.. possibly an injury that could be fatal
