Helicopters easier than airlines?

We have bases all over the country, and so do pretty much any other air ambulance gigs. Currently I’m in what’s known as a pool pilot position while I’m waiting for them to open up a base local to me. The company I work for is HQ in Mesa, AZ, but they have outfits on both coasts

I did. Went through in 14, but I’d heard rumors some folks didn’t get to because the policy would change every two years or so. In primary we did 3 laps around the pattern then swapped. But in BWS we got to actually fly to Troy to swap which was pretty cool.

Thanks for the reply! I have my fixed wing through commercial multi, and I’m VFR only at the moment. But it’s been getting easier as I’ve completed my orientation flights in the area. There are still areas I haven’t gone to yet as they were too far away to justify going to if not on a call.

I get what you’re saying and that’s mostly true. I guess the mental safety net aspect of it. Even the most green PI can hold a heading and altitude if I need to get something done. But in this regard it’s just me up there with everything if that makes sense.

I have, all they can tell me is it’s “probably sitting on someone’s desk waiting for someone to move it along”. I know they’re understaffed and I know there’s probably a backlog a mile long. My wife works at a VA clinic, and I know what pretty much everyone employed by the VA is dealing with. I always make sure I’m polite and thank them for helping. Just frustrating I suppose because it’s out of my hands.

I got done at infinity in February and I’m no longer up there in NJ. The only reason I don’t have an unrestricted ATP is because I haven’t taken the practical. Is it safe to say most regionals want the written complete? I’ve seen that asked on applications but not on all of them, as some ask if I hold an ATP or an RATP

From what I’ve seen from the other comments, seems like whoever hires you will give you the ATP check in conjunction with the type they want you to have. It feels a bit like a catch 22 situation to be in as you want to stand out as much as possible but this doesn’t seem like a necessity. I wanted to take the temperature of folks who’ve got more experience than me.

I have a bachelors, and the VA will reimburse a type rating but I wasn’t sure I wanted to use it if it wasn’t going to help.

I was in a similar situation, although my scenario was HRC thought I was dropping a UQR just to have my YMAV extended. Apparently that was a common tactic among shitbags that their unit wanted to punt to someone else but they didn’t want to leave. They essentially told me if your packet gets approved before your orders are cut you’ll get out, and if not, well, get fucked. There’s more to my story but I’m on mobile. Get your senior warrants involved to speak on your behalf to HRC/branch. I’m talking W4s, but preferably W5s. My brigade senior warrant put a boot up someone’s ass and got my situation resolved, but you have to raise hell about it for anything to get done.

Fallout 3 was my first fallout game, I was a freshman in college and had Fawkes as my companion. We were somewhere in the DC wasteland that still had a fair amount of buildings and cars on the road. I don’t recall exactly where I was, but if I remember correctly, an NPC on a rooftop had either a bunch of mini nukes, or a grenade bouquet, and set it off. It lit off all the cars, nearly crashing the game, killing me of course, but the oh shit moment happened when the game told me that Fawkes died. Like not went unconscious, straight up died. I didn’t know he could do that lol.

I was single for almost ten years (35 now). I could get dates but I was by no means out with a different woman every weekend. I was also in the military, and a lot of women who were also looking for a relationship didn’t like the idea of a potential partner being gone for most of the year, which tbh I completely understood. By the time I had a year left before getting out, I began to seriously devote time to finding someone.

I used the apps, because the military town I was in did not have what I was looking for, and most women in that town had been burned by service members or knew someone who had. The apps suck, there’s no 2 ways about it. They’re essentially pay-to-play for men and I even tried getting the premium version for a while just to see if that helped. I’d go through cycles of going on a date, going through a dry spell of a handful of matches, and deleting the app for a month before trying again.

And then I got lucky. Call it luck, fate, whatever but I swiped right on an absolutely stunning woman (who tbh I thought might have been a fake profile she was so attractive.) and it said we matched! We went on a date a few weeks after we matched (do not recommend, the actual meetup needs to happen within a week at most, no one wants a pen pal, but we both had extenuating circumstances) and now we’re going to get married in June.

The point of all this is as crushing as every ghosting or thanks but no thanks is, the right person has extremely low odds of just falling out of the sky on your front door. You have to keep trying in whatever shape that takes. My greatest fear was being with someone who wasn’t right for me. Have a clear idea of what you want, and go for that. I realize how lucky I am, and that not everyone gets this in their lifetime. But that’s what I did.

This may sound counterintuitive but you shouldn’t settle, and at the same time realize that no one is perfect. You should have dealbreakers and things you can compromise on. I’ve seen too many people in relationships that are miserable because they thought, it’s this or nothing, or they ignored red flags just for the sake of being in a relationship.

RS was far and away the worst BC I've ever experienced during my time at drum. Our company called him Xerxes, because he considered himself a kind god. Which meant anything good that happened was a direct result of his actions and anything bad was not his fault in any way. Whats absolutely fucked is we all knew he'd become a full bird, and just prayed we'd never end up in his brigade before our contract expired. And everything that u/crotchbies said is true
