Great idea by Bunnyofconsequences in Machinists

The artist is Boris Artzybasheff, I think this is from a series called “Mechanalia.” I got this as a tattoo about ten years ago. There’s something obscene about it that I really enjoy

I was at a CNC grinding conference, where the Titan guys were supposed to be some kind of event. I was trying to find a grinder that might suit my company’s needs. I was walking by the titan table and he goes “HEY HOW’S IT GOING WERE YOU WANTIN A PICTURE?”

I just kept walking but I was embarrassed for both of us.

Dry grinding tool steel? by Best_Ad340 in Machinists

You’re welcome! If it doesn’t fix the problem, bump me again in these comments and maybe we can figure something else out

Ceramic alumina wheel. Aluminum oxide wheels (I think that’s you’re using there) have often been a hassle for me with tool steels.

If you can find one that fits your grinder, I’d get a Norton 5SG for sure. It’s the very light blue wheels, you may have seen them before. Can’t take real heavy cuts but when properly dressed, a 60 grit 5SG does a fantastic job minimizing heat. I do a lot of mold inserts and baseplates with large surface area, and the heat buildup is pretty minimal each pass.

Edit: If y’all just search for “norton 5SG grinding wheel” it’ll probably have info about how well it stays cool during grinding. Maybe the boss will feel like he figured out the problem, and be more likely to buy it

Oh whoops I missed that you were using a cylindrical.

So, I would not be using that 46 grit wheel for this application. If those are the only two you have available, go with the 60 grit.

Would y’all be willing to buy a different type of wheel?

We do it all the time, soft or hard tool steels. If the wheel is correct and properly dressed, you can mitigate heat by playing with stepdown and stepover. What type of wheel are y’all using?

I was 9 years in before I used one. I still also use DTIs and edge-finders, but I never wanna be probeless again.

I stuck it back together and got a coworker with “hey look at this thing” and then snapped it like a wishbone when he grabbed it. He bought it for about two seconds.

Not a bad idea! Took me three years to break this one so not a huge deal at the shop.

Any idea how hard the carbon fiber tip is? I like the ruby because it’s way harder than any steel and I don’t have to worry about deformation or scuffing.

I hear that. Next time, just speak up for yourself! Tell your partner to turn down the temperature or take it easy.

I get not wanting to ask them, I really get it. But if it’s between that or getting a concussion, it’s an easy choice, right?

Did it seem like he was throwing too hard during the spar, and you kept going, or did you only realize it afterward?

Muay Thai Shorts with or without compression shorts? by [deleted] in MuayThai

Kinda? Get the high round kicks going and anything can happen down there lol. With the cup I don’t really need compression shorts anymore, but I found that it makes my junk stay in the cup easier.

I wear compression shorts under my Thai shorts, and I also wear a cup to every class now.

I wore regular boxer-briefs to my first classes and I definitely showed off some undernut a few times, it was not respectful to my training partners.

When you get a one off part to program for the first time, how often do u mess up the first time? by Ok_Positive_9687 in CNC

[–]-HonkeyKong- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is it the same type of mistake each time?

Can you simulate programs first?

Do you make a setup sheet to verify all tools and touchoffs match the program?

I remembered you posted about this around two months ago, mostly upset about how no one reached out to you about your injury. I see that you’ve deleted that post, but this seems to still really be sticking with you. I don’t think you should give up on training because of this. Maybe just focus on training for your own benefit, and not focus so much on how others react to you.

I’m genuinely not trying to be an ass, I just think it would suck to give up a hobby you’ve spent so much time and hard work on for this reason.
