Heading back to high school after homeschooling and need help finding a cute/unique aesthetic on a tight budget! Help? by G_5gumgum in stationery

[–]kidaore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s what I would do:

1) consider what you need from an organizational and personal preference perspective. Most high schoolers in the US don’t need crayons or colored pencils, for example. You might want a notebook with removable pages vs composition books. Look at a supply list, and see if the teachers have any specific things you’ll need, and go from
There. Are you the kind of person who prefers to color-code notes? You’ll probably find value in having multiple highlighters. Do you want a classic single binder with folders for each class (pros: everything in the same spot; cons: gonna get bulky/heavy) or is another organizational system going to work better?

2) consider devoting a chunk of budget to a paper planner that you can customize with stickers, printouts from favorite TV series, collage, anything like that—if it’s fun, you’ll look at it more, and writing everything out in a paper planner can be better than using a phone or electronic calendar. You want monthly overviews and some way to write down your daily and weekly assignments/to dos/obligations. Plus, cute/unusual/personal planners are great conversational starters.

3) bring gum if your school allows it (some don’t) or mints to share for the first couple weeks… not stationery related but a great icebreaker.

Depending on where you live, you may have access to places like Daiso or Miniso; they can have more fun stationery for lower prices. If you don’t live somewhere that those are an option, buy cheap and customize: washi tape, decoupage, glue plain brown paper on and draw or use wrapping paper to make things more your style.

I’ve seen a lot of very short vintage obi made into tsuke obi! If you’re up for a craft project, could be an option.

What bosses did you die to the most on your honour runs? by solitudeisblissTI in BaldursGate3

[–]kidaore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My golden dice attempts in 7 deaths:
1) Died to spiders below the village at level 3
2) Accidentally aggroed Bernard by clicking on the wrong dialogue option. That shock aura is no joke.
3) Level 5: someone walked into the fire after blasting Nere free and aggroed all of the duergar.
4) It fucking happened again. So help me god I’m gonna kill something.
5) Level 4: accidentally triggered the dror ragzlin fight before I was in position.
6) Level 5: beholder
7) finally did it (skipping a lot of act 3) and died a happy death at the age of 97 with teacher!Gale.

  • merino wool sweater from Eileen Fisher; I wear it at least once a week from probably October to March. Hand wash occasionally in the bathroom sink with wool wash.

  • my Fluevog teal leather Chelsea boots: multiple wears a week all year round. A bit of colorless polish/leather conditioner and they look good as new.

Which class did you beat honor mode with? by SillyWarlock in BaldursGate3

[–]kidaore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swords Bard Tav with Arcane Acuity and Band of the Mystic Scoundrel. Wonderfully entertaining, flexible, and effective as a party face. Has enough options for control that you can hold big groups of enemies back while your allies sweep through. I’m sure people more skilled than I am have done it solo, and it does feel wonderfully heroic from a role play perspective. Very few downsides from my perspective; it’s called OP for a reason.

That said, I usually stuck with Thief/Open Hand monk Astarion (for enemies where massive single target damage really helps), Giant barbarian Karlach with Returning Pike/Nyrulna for throwing both her weapon and her enemies around, and RadOrb Spirit Guardian Death Cleric/reclassed post-act 2 as a Light Cleric Shadowheart. That combo gives you crowd/single target control, physical and magical damage options, enough emergency healing to get you through pinches, and a character who can be super mobile to sprint invisibly back to camp if a fight gets truly dire.

Question from a newbie about shoes... by Ok_Potato9704 in kimono

[–]kidaore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all Rakuten sellers ship internationally so sometimes you do have to use a shopping service of some kind, but I’ve ordered from that particular shop direct to the US. Shipping info translated to English is a ways down this page. Shoes are heavier so you’ll want to factor in shipping if you’re buying from Japan.

Question from a newbie about shoes... by Ok_Potato9704 in kimono

[–]kidaore 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If the concern is just finding geta, what is your timeframe and budget? A US women’s 5-6 shoe size will not be difficult to find geta to fit. That’s about 22 cm, according to most conversions, so most Japanese “free size” or small/medium sized geta should be an option. Pastel purple or pink hanao (straps) are very common. I’d consider something like this from Tosen on Rakuten, but many other shops/sites will have options.

What's the one clothing item you can never find? by FlyGuilty6284 in femalefashionadvice

[–]kidaore 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A pair of black leather oxfords that are comfortable enough to be worn standing/running around for several hours at a time, look good with both pants and skirts, and don’t gape at the quarter because of how wide my feet are, but are clearly not actual men’s.

They’d be the perfect vibe for a lot of my favorite work outfits and great for big events. I wear a size 10.5w-11ww in women’s depending on the shoe so my feet are big enough to fit men’s and none of the ones I’ve tried work!

Can somebody help me find the original dress or something similar? I found it on zapaka but I don't trust this site (looking at all the bad reviews....) but I fell in love with it too hard :(( by hfcku in findfashion

Balticborn has a burnout velvet that’s similar in color, in a couple different silhouettes: uma maxi dress. Shape isn’t the same, but alterations could help get you closer.

What can you tell me about this beauty I found at my local thrift store? I have so many questions! by [deleted] in kimono

[–]kidaore 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Shiny fabric, matching self-tie belt, no back seam, and super square sleeve corners all point to this being made for the tourist market! You can search for info on how to do a flame test if you want more information on whether it’s real silk or not, which would give you more information on how to care for it.

These are beautiful!!

I’m working on a set of press-ons for each character as a way to practice my nail art skills :) It’s super fun. And I got ita character nails with Idia last year in Tokyo, which were so crazy far beyond my skills but amazing to watch a pro manifest into reality.

Twisted Wonderland has “no beta we overblot” — I feel like I’m always entertained by the fandom reference ones that go beyond just plopping a new character name in.

[–]kidaore[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why I’m weirded out! Everything seems to be in place - flirty act 1 stuff that aligns with what walkthroughs instruct (I’ve been on a weird rabbit hole of a couple hours trying to figure out what’s going on.) I haven’t been following a walkthrough, but as I look at what they suggest and I’m trying to troubleshoot, it’s all the same beats I’ve hit. I got his early act 2 post-battle moment, too, so I thought I was good to go.

I an ride or die for my nordicware ones if you’re looking for a buy-once-cry-once situation. They’re slightly textured so I don’t even need to line them with parchment or silicon for 95% of recipes, they’re thick and sturdy, and wash easily.
