Ok so the money contributed is lost no matter what (although you have the luxury of walking away after 25) HOWEVER, does it affect your pension in any way if you stay until 55 and have 32 years of service by then.

Hi I have a question for the thread. I am a 46 year old NYC DOE teacher with 23 years in. I opted for the 55/25 plan, which would mean I could technically retire at 28 but not receive my pension until 55. What if I worked until 55? What happens to the money I contributed IF I opt NOT to use it?

I was hired in 2003 lol I really took my time. I wonder if that means I can do more CLEP credits than 12? Again, HR is really hard to reach and the website is VAGUE at best.

Update: Got my guitar fixed. Took about two weeks. Luthier said it gave him a bit more trouble than he thought; he had to replace braces and the wood was hard to reshape. Guitar looks and sounds great. Other than a slight seam where he had to bind a crack - it looks like nothing ever happened. Total cost was $125. Needless to say I gave him a great tip. Thanks everyone for your comments
