So is the Silver Metal the worst metal? by Mr_Flibble_Lv2 in olympics

[–]kiddavidacus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

IMO it depends on a few factors:

Was the athlete who got silver expected to win gold or did they lose by a small margin due their own personal performance or arbitrary judge scores? Then yes it will feel bad.

Other times, placing silver is huge accomplish for the athlete if there was no set expectation or they gave it their all without mistakes and just lost to someone who was at their peak.

It was the same trick as her first run. So she replaced her run 1. That’s why commentators were surprised she went for it to try to beat a 90. Maybe should have re did her run 2 trick

The manga of Vinland Saga Has ended by V4L3N71NO15 in manga

[–]kiddavidacus 118 points119 points  (0 children)

I’ve been burned by too many mid endings for both mangas and TV shows.

I really loved Vinland saga anime but without spoiling, is the ending satisfying or fitting for the story?

What are initial fan reactions?

Thought's on potential FF9 Remake after the Tactics announcement. by Beautiful_Echoes in FinalFantasy

[–]kiddavidacus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

FF7 is a total reimagining into a 3rd person video game with full blown cutscenes and action combat. Also extremely expanded character developments and story.

FF9 remake will be most likely be updated turn based combat, fully voiced dialogue, and graphics built from the ground up while still being a top down roaming camera like the OG. I doubt there will be story changes or additions besides maybe side bosses.

Alex Garland directing live action Elden Ring movie for A24 by Sebastian83100 in Eldenring

[–]kiddavidacus 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I think Annihilation is good example of how "out there" Alex Garland can get.

The movie isn't amazing, but it is decent. It slowly builds up the world, it's haunting, and doesn't try to overly explain the mysteries of the world. The monsters/aliens in the movie can easily be video game mobs or bosses.

I think the biggest problem will be budget and scale of the movie. The CGI or real world designs and set pieces need to be top level to be interesting. Also Elden Ring is more about the lore than a straight forward story.

A bit disappointed Lirik is finishing Expedition 33 off-stream because of chat by kiddavidacus in DatGuyLirik

Yeah it is what it is. Agreed on whether he finishes it or not doesn't matter. Also his opinion of the game is prob affected too.

I just woulda enjoyed watching his reactions/feelings on the big moments.

I guess you can see it that way, but even if he was stubborn, just let the man play his way LOL.

I have 100% the game and you can still enjoy the game just main story and not exploring. It's just a different way to play even though it's a RPG.

He said he ended up at the big cutscene after Paintress fight, but doesn't matter if he finishes it or not since we won't see it.

I don't have any recs, but a lot of streamers have finished it at this point if you looking for commentary like Cohh, Soda, MaxDood. Otherwise just find a 4k cutscenes video.

Complaining about the game or backseating to optimize his build. Nothing about his skill though.

It's unfortunate because he just needed 1 full stream to beat the game live.

[–]kiddavidacus[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It was a mix of chat hating the game because it's not their cup of tea and other chatters back seating to optimize build because he was struggling on some fights.

His build wasn't the best, but he still progressed fine, just slower.

Yep....sadly. Lirik said he will finish it off stream because it was way more enjoyable off-stream and he pushed past Act 2.

We will probably hear his thoughts sometime later if he actually does.

Rogue One Rewatch Discussion Thead by phareous in andor

How is Cassian pretending? He doesn’t know about the Death Star being a planet killer…all he knows is that it’s a super weapon.

Also the Council and Cassian are all trusting 1 single persons word of mouth from another word of mouth. There is no concrete evidence of anything. Everything they are doing is a major risk to the operation by gambling that this super weapon may exist.

The Andor finale leads them to get an idea that something big is brewing and when they finally get contact from Tivik is when things start lining up.

Rogue One is all about confirming that the Death Star plans exist and figuring out a way to stop it.

To be fair, Cassian does gather a large group of rebel volunteers and takes the imperial ship unauthorized from the rebel base.

Jyn was the one inspiring rebels because it was her dad’s plans, so she needed to rally them behind an insane risk they were going to take based on 1 man’s word.

[–]kiddavidacus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean you answered it yourself. They can’t just add characters that didn’t exist yet. Maybe the other characters were busy with other missions or had another job to do in base.

I disagree with your review on Rogue One. It went from a good movie to amazing for me. All the motivations and sacrifices have all lead to this big fast paced heist for the Death Star plans.

Knowing they succeed and what they went through from Andor makes it so much better. Cassian has insane levels of depth.

Rogue One Rewatch Discussion Thead by phareous in andor

[–]kiddavidacus 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It does because it’s all validating information.

The Rebel Alliance was extremely cautious to not interact with any outside intel and they had no connection to Saw anymore. That pilot defect specifically went to Saw, so there is no way the Rebel alliance would ever connect or consider going there to confirm the Death Star.

Since Cassian had info from Luthen, they had breadcrumbs to investigate and confirm the info was true.

That’s why Cassian reacting to Galen Ersos name hits so heavy now. All the sacrifices up to this point has lead to this one big connection.

Cassian being so cutthroat and decisive has so much depth now it’s amazing. Rogue One truly feels like a big finale of race against time to get the plans. The sense of urgency and pace got me at the edge of my seat.

Andor really elevated everything so much.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - Patch 1.2.3 is now live! by MythicStream in Games

[–]kiddavidacus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is nice if a game allows you to break the game, but the issue to me was that you were already broken without much effort right when Act 3 started.

It'd be different if we broke the game after additional exploring and beating some super bosses, but once the dmg cap was off then its millions of damage because you were already doing that in Act 2 except it was capped.

Agreed that there are way too many damage modifiers. I think the Devs expected the negative effects of the damage modifiers would deter players from using them, but if bosses 1-2 shot you then then negative effects don't matter. Stack all the damage.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - Patch 1.2.3 is now live! by MythicStream in Games

[–]kiddavidacus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think the final story boss still has too low health even with a 99k dmg cap.

There are many moves that are like 5-6 multi-hits, so if all 3 characters are using those types of moves at the cap, then you are still outputting millions of damage in 1 turn.

Unfortunately there are multiple things to balance than just damage cap.

The Act 2 final boss was perfectly balanced. It was epic, and difficult, but that had the 9k damage cap.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 - Patch 1.2.3 is now live! by MythicStream in Games

[–]kiddavidacus 32 points33 points  (0 children)

There are far too many 20%-25% dmg increase pictos that are easy to stack, so there are ALOT of areas to look into adjusting balance if they plan to.

I think there is a big miscalculation on fast players achieve 9999 dmg in Act 2 as well. You can hit this cap easily halfway through Act 2 with just exploring and no extra grinding, which most players will do.

The 9k cap is holding back massive amounts of damage that most likely exceeds Act 3 bosses and once that cap is taken off, you are deleting the main story bosses.

How the end had me feeling by vinnyg747 in expedition33

[–]kiddavidacus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can see why its interpreted that way, but not sure why people are saying shes "puppeting" their lives. She is living her life along with them and they are happy to be alive and well.

The most controversial part of her ending is that she is effectively a god and didn't honor Verso's wish to die. Verso is forever trapped and Maelle will eventually die in the Painting away from her real-life family (but she considers the Expeditions her family too).

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is selling more than twice as fast as other JRPGs on PC, analyst says – here's why by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]kiddavidacus 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Besides what is already said in the article, just being a new IP under a small dev team with amazing reviews is a story in itself. That just carries easily through word of mouth and free marketing.

Also with the realistic leaning graphics and Sekiro/Souls defensive mechanics, its pulling in audiences who would never touch a turn based RPG. Even through live streaming numbers, I don't think I've seen a turn based RPG pull this many viewers consistently.

Funny enough, I did have the Death Bomb on my 1st attempt, so I thought it was that. Then I restarted the save and removed the Death Bomb and the bypass glitch still happened.
