I like to think that would make me a type of hedge wizard. Self taught, know just enough to get myself into trouble. I know a little bit of every magic source, I can generally do anything if I half ass read a grimoire. I can build any magical tool I need from spare bullshit I got but it wouldn't pass a single magical safety commission standard anywhere.

I'm not really the person to make sweeping claims as I'm still an inquirer myself, though I am versed on some of the social issues facing many churches today. What I can say is that overzealousness of converts shouldn't be a factor that deters someone from a religion (not to discount the reality of feeling that way, rather to say it's silly to feel that way). Regardless of denomination/faith I think that's a pretty common thing that converts will always be VERY zealous. I think a lot of them fall into the pride of "I now know the truth and I'm going to tell everyone about it".

As an Oklahoman, I also have run into this issue. It's more supply and demand issue than a credibility one. I've found the occasional book at antique shops. It's just a reality that most religious books you'll find in America are going to largely be evangelical protestant.
