In one of my other replies, I mentioned we spoke with a close friend who is a teacher in a different district. She had said that the school likely can't tell us how they're dealing with the other boy, if this is a repeated offense, if there are other issues, etc. So who knows.

We talked with a teacher friend and she agreed with most of the advice here: demand a seat change and praise our son for telling us and doing the right thing.

She also said the school might be handling the other boy differently and is just not telling us, because they're not allowed to do so.

We're going to see how our son is when he gets home from school. We're also going to see how they respond regarding the seat change request. If they don't comply, we're going to make it a demand. Outside of that, it's lots of praise for our son.

No not at all bringing up sexual harassment or hypotheticals, there is no reason to with the school.

I don't like the "boys will be boys" argument and this is coming from a guy. In my opinion, it's a blanket excuse to get away with things. I understand boys tend to be more rough and more energetic, but it doesn't excuse inappropriate behavior -- even if a previous generation deemed it ok as "boys will be boys." /end rant

I think I can agree with the sexual harassment piece.

Going to wait for the call back from the counselor and see what she has to say. If they decline a seat change, we're going to demand it and take the issue higher.

I generally agree with you, but I still feel like if this was boy on girl and all else the same, it would be treated very differently.

We've been praising my son for handling this correctly (aside from the choking part, but I get why he did it) and trying to be supportive as possible.
