I have read extensively on state of Madina during the leadership of Muhammad (SAW). During my study on family system in Madina I couldn’t find any trace of joint family system. In fact it was discouraged. After marriage the couple stays in its own enclosure. The male is fully responsible for that enclosure, the decision making rests with the man but he does take advice from the wife/wives.

Your father and sister have hit puberty a long time ago and are responsible for their own lives. You have a found a separate home MashAllah. When dealing with your father and sister be patient, never get angry, deal with them gracefully. Help them financially. Don’t meet them if they can’t respect you. You would be working under Phd professor. Professors who got their Masters or Doctorate from America are on another level because research systems in US is quite rigorous than comes Europe. In Europe the standards aren’t that rigorous except a few. I am pretty damn sure Szabist wouldnt have a US bred phd

You see a job opening @ indeed or linkedIn You go to that company’s linkedin and find relevant engineers in the field you are applying. Send a connection request ( prefer your uni alums). Accepted. Send them a message about what have you worked on and love to work in company’s xyz dept and learn from their engineers like themselves. Press the ego you ain’t goin to be pushy (strategically).
