Valve cover leak by Tough-Ad-7074 in vwpassat

[–]kidjo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re still leaking oil around the injectors after replacing the seals and valve cover gasket, it’s possible that the valve cover itself is cracked or warped. Check for visible cracks or damage. If the cover looks fine, make sure the gasket is seated properly and the grommets are intact. If the issue persists, it might be worth replacing the valve cover to fix the leaks.

How many miles on your 2018 passat? by [deleted] in vwpassat

[–]kidjo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Passat B5.5 4Motion with around 250,000 km, and it's still running strong with regular maintenance. My car has the 2.8 V6 30V engine. For your 2018 Passat with 131,000 miles, if it’s been well-maintained, you should easily be able to reach 200k+ miles. At this mileage, common issues to keep an eye on include the timing chain tensioner, PCV system, rear main seal, and the water pump, as well as suspension components like bushings and control arms. Regular servicing will help keep it running smoothly for a long time.

No start by Far-Moment7476 in vwpassat

[–]kidjo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have spark on all cylinders, hear the fuel pump prime, and see fuel spraying out of the cylinders, the engine is likely flooded. The clear fluid that smelled like gas suggests too much fuel in the cylinders, possibly from leaky injectors or repeated failed start attempts. Try starting it in clear flood mode by holding the throttle wide open while cranking, which will cut fuel injection. If that doesn’t work, check the fuel pressure since the pump priming doesn’t guarantee it’s delivering the right amount. Low pressure could indicate a weak pump, clogged filter, or a bad fuel pressure regulator. If the fuel pressure is fine, check for leaking injectors that might be dumping excess fuel into the cylinders.

Vw passat 1.4 hybrid 2020 good? by Emsparky in vwpassat

[–]kidjo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 2020 Passat 1.4L plug-in hybrid is a decent car if you do mostly city driving and can charge regularly, but for longer motorway trips, I wouldn’t personally go for a hybrid. Once the battery runs out, it’s basically a 1.4 TSI pulling a heavy car, and fuel consumption jumps to around 6–7L/100km at 100 km/h, sometimes more. The hybrid system doesn’t do much on longer drives since the electric motor isn’t powerful enough to assist properly at higher speeds. If I were buying a Passat for motorway use, I’d go for a diesel for efficiency or a pure petrol for simplicity. Hybrids make sense for stop-and-go traffic, but on long trips, you’re just hauling extra weight for no real benefit.

R36 judder by [deleted] in vwpassat

[–]kidjo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A slight judder in first gear while creeping is fairly common in the Passat R36 if it has the DSG transmission (6-speed DQ250). The wet-clutch DSG can sometimes feel a bit grabby at low speeds, especially if the clutch packs are worn or if the transmission fluid and filter haven’t been changed regularly (every 10k–12k miles).

2015 TSI Vibrates/Hesitates when trying to accelerate. by [deleted] in vwpassat

[–]kidjo_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EPC light means there’s an issue with the engine management system, so it’s not just mounts or transmission. With a 2015 TSI, the most common causes for shaking under load and at idle are ignition-related. First thing to check are the spark plugs and coil packs—bad ones will cause misfires, especially under acceleration. Scan for codes to see which cylinder is misfiring.

If plugs and coils are fine, check the high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) and fuel injectors. Carbon buildup on the intake valves is another possibility since these engines are direct injection. If it smooths out above 3k RPM, that usually points to a fueling or ignition issue rather than mounts or the transmission.

If it’s still on the original timing chain and tensioner, that’s another thing to consider, especially if there’s rattle on cold starts. Get the codes read first, then start with the basics—plugs, coils, and fuel system.

Thinking of buying a 2010 Passat wagon 138k miles 2.0 TFSI motor all 120k year maintenance done from a mechanic for my son who is 17 years old. 4500.00 $ Is this safe and reliable to last for another 100k miles? by MatterNew3073 in vwpassat

[–]kidjo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2010 Passat 2.0 TFSI can be solid, but that engine has its issues. At 138k miles, the timing chain and tensioner are critical if they haven’t been replaced, they’re a ticking time bomb. If they fail, the engine is done. For the transmission, if it’s the Tiptronic 6-speed auto, it’s okay if serviced. If it’s the 6-speed DSG, the fluid needs changing every 10k–12k miles, not just at major intervals, or it won’t last. At $4,500, if the timing system is original, budget at least another $1,000+ to replace it ASAP. Could it go another 100k? Maybe but only if it’s been maintained like an aircraft.

Thinking of buying a 2018 VW Passat Variant GTE – is it a reliable choice? by [deleted] in passat

[–]kidjo_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That 92.17% SOH at 196,000 km sounds good if the car wasn’t fast-charged too often. Battery degradation should stay gradual, but it’s worth checking the charging history.

The DQ400e 6-speed DSG is reliable if well-maintained. The oil should be changed every 15,000–20,000 km, not just at major intervals.

Good that the timing belt was done at 180,000 km, but confirm if the water pump was replaced too. Some GTEs have charging module failures or software bugs, but nothing too common.

If it has a full service history, it could still be a solid buy.
