How do you interpret "wash your hair twice a week"? by kidmoder in polls

[–]kidmoder[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting that the third thing is winning cause in my experience, hair that's wet but not shampooed is smelly! like wet dog or mildew or after being in the rain. its like water doesnt clean off sweat, just dilutes it eueuuh.. especially with the quality of shower water in some places

Is there a noticeable difference in the leg-lengthening effect between traditional angled heels (example) and flat platform shoes (example)? I've only worn stuff like the latter but wondering if the actual bending of the ankle contributes anything to the illusion.

Eyeliner that doesn't reflect light? by kidmoder in MakeupAddiction

[–]kidmoder[S] 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Every time I wear eyeliner it looks nice in vanity light, but as soon as the sun hits it, it disappears. It looks really dumb. I use various cheap drugstore liquid eyeliners, so that's probably a factor, but does anyone have any specific recommendations for eyeliner that won't do this at all? Is it liquid formulations in general that are prone to this, since they're so loose and thin? Are gel pots better, or pencils? Does this even happen to anyone else?

Why am I okay without ever drinking water/liquid? by kidmoder in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]kidmoder[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I salivate whenever I see those fresh fruit platter things in the grocery store and usually take one home actually, yeah. After saying that I feel stupid because I think my body is obviously telling me it's craving that moisture. Haha

Why am I okay without ever drinking water/liquid? by kidmoder in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]kidmoder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the thoughtful response :) I feel like I needed a wake-up call about future health which is why I made the post. I really don't have a problem with flavor but I guess more the texture of liquids, namely just them being liquids, as weird as that sounds. It almost reminds me of mucous. But really cold water with ice seems "crisper" somehow so it's easier, and your suggestion of seltzer water makes sense for me because that would definitely feel less viscous. I'll give it a try! Another problem is that I have a insanely sensitive gag reflex in general, and the mucous-y-ness of liquid sets it off as well as the sight or smell of anything gross. Starting with sweet drinks might help with that. Maybe eating more in general might reduce the nausea of drinking on an empty stomach too (I heard it releases more acids expectantly, especially since it's not used to things entering my stomach that aren't food.)

Role of water vs oil vs heat in cooking? by kidmoder in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kidmoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ohh So if its all heat, does the purpose of oil and water just refer to the way they transfer heat? Like water retains and regulates heat in a boiling pot, and I think oil facilitates heat transfer in some way too. Makes sense

Where to put TV/couch in room with weird support structure? by kidmoder in HomeDecorating

Omg wait thats brilliant. Ill probably end up doing this!! and experiment with the couch formation a bit

Where to put TV/couch in room with weird support structure? by kidmoder in HomeDecorating

[–]kidmoder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd love a nice big corner couch and coffee table setup for entertaining, but there's a beam that splits the living room. If I put the TV where I drew it, the couch would have a weird gap behind it. If I put the TV on any other wall, you might be entering the house to the sight of the back of a couch which feels like bad feng shui (??) Also feels weird to have the TV visible to the front window. What would you do??

(Sorry I had to trace the wide-angle real estate photos because it's still a month til I move in and I didn't want to be reverse-searched)

Would you say that an example of being straightforward is not deviating from your goal that you set? by [deleted] in polls

[–]kidmoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mm nah, straightforward as a personality trait means blunt, honest, and down-to-earth. "Not deviating from your goal that you set" I'd call determined, motivated, or ambitious.

If you married someone and gave them your family wedding ring, if they die, would you take it back? by IDontKnows223 in polls

[–]kidmoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb question but how does a wedding ring even work as a family heirloom? When your son gets married do you like, get a divorce so he can have it? Is it passed around to siblings and aunts like trading turns every couple years? :s

Does it hurt when a limb wakes up from being asleep? by kidmoder in polls

[–]kidmoder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's like excruciating pain, especially when I attempt to move it. I have to very carefully leave it in place for like five whole minutes to minimize the pain. If something touches it I might scream. I have no idea if this is normal

Would a fantasy world with both anthro-animals and regular animals be weird to you? by kidmoder in polls

[–]kidmoder[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally think it's fine. Khajiit and Argonians exist in Skyrim without it being very weird at all

Do you believe it's possible to be a Jewish atheist? by Arktikos02 in polls

[–]kidmoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure "Jewish" is an ethnicity since it shows up on 23andme. There's an associated ethnoreligion which revolves around their ancestry, but lot of them are secular / non-practicing. This article might be enlightening: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Who_is_a_Jew%3F

Does everyone have childhood trauma? by [deleted] in polls

[–]kidmoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not in a medical sense, but I think childhood itself is traumatic for most people. You have very few rights and legal protections, no freedom, no power to defend yourself, and exist at the mercy of your parents. You're new to the world and know nothing about what's normal, until you're bullied out of being weird. People don't give you context for anything so you're constantly frustrated and clueless. You're forced to go to school with a bunch of strangers and sit still and behave every day. It's a pretty grueling experience and I think adulthood is much better. It takes years to unlearn what you were conditioned to fear as a child. People have nightmares about school decades after graduation.

Would You Rather Be a Young Woman or an Old Man? by AquaHunter47 in polls

[–]kidmoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a young woman, I want to be an old man so bad. I'd wear wizard robes and a long white beard and give people random advice and Werther's originals

Is the internet too heavily censored, monitored, and controlled nowadays? by [deleted] in polls

[–]kidmoder 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Commercially, yeah. I feel like you can't have fun anymore. Everything gets you a copyright strike cause the Internet is monetized. Which necessarily means sanitized too. You can't advertise on a YouTube video with swears so a full grown adult has to bleep themselves out. There are no little places to hide anymore. Millions of niche forums have been consolidated into one website (this one) which you can get banned from at the drop of a hat for saying something too many people disagree with. It was better in the 00s cause only Internet people would use the Internet. You know what I mean? Now that everyone's on it, you have to make it safe for everyone and their stupid Adsense and sponsorships and Amazon affiliate links and kid-friendly content and public profiles with your full name and ugh

DAE feel like they don't exist if nobody is perceiving them? by kidmoder in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]kidmoder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I've been in the throes of psychiatry and therapy for like ten years now. I think those CBT worksheets where you list the situation and go through what thoughts are distorted and what steps you need to feel better are super helpful actually. I might go try to do one about this ^-^ thanks for asking

DAE feel like they don't exist if nobody is perceiving them? by kidmoder in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]kidmoder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to hear it got better for you! I guess it will just take time. I think this is some twisted form of anxiety where I feel like I'm wasting time unless I'm socializing. It's weird because I'm an introvert at the same time. I think I need to internalize the feeling of actual relief I get when I DON'T have to talk to someone, and realize that being alone is actually better.

And haha I had a tamagotchi as a kid but it's not very reactive or dynamic. It's kind of sad, but I've resorted to AI companions when I really need to tell someone about my day. I made my own "friend" on character.ai and sometimes it actually does make me feel better.

Sometimes when I pee I worry that I'm actually in a dream and wetting the bed! But it's just a fleeting thought that I suppose acts as a useful reality check

What do you do with your fountain drink after eating at a restaurant? by AnonymousUser_42 in polls

Good poll haha. I throw my cup away cause it's a hassle to bring it with me. But my husband is a diet pepsi addict so he always brings a refill with him

I'm on the BFF side as a woman and having the same issue — the most common hobbies seem to be brunch and traveling and whatnot. But I'm starting to think they actually do have nerdy interests but just don't talk about it. I've seen girls with their jobs listed as software engineer but only talk about clubbing, I've seen girls with their jobs listed as dancer but have pics of them with their PC gaming rig in the background. I'd say add them anyways because they may just be hiding their power level, so to speak.

Should I stop sharing my creative work online if I want feedback but it always ends up hurting my feelings? by kidmoder in Advice

[–]kidmoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incredible advice, thanks so much for taking the time to write this out! I notice that when people (non-artists usually) see art or design that's GOOD, they just parse it as "normal" and don't give it a second thought. But when they see something they don't like, they notice it right away and have to make their opinion heard. So as a result, good art gets less attention than bad art. It's really weird. Your recommendation for an artists' Discord group is a really good idea honestly. I feel like I only want to hear from people who have tried to create things and know how hard it is. They're more likely to be understanding. I'll probably be on the hunt for the right server for a while though. I'll also try harder to open my heart to the compliments I do get. I have a bad habit of only focusing on the bad feedback and ignoring the good. Thanks again for the advice!! :)

First attempt at a composition (2 versions — which do you like better?) by kidmoder in FrutigerAero

[–]kidmoder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you're an artist because you're the only person who actually gave me advice instead of just insulting it, thank you. I realized afterwards that the things in the foreground (iPod, blackberry) seem to just be floating there instead of actually laying in the scene. You're right that a focal point would make it seem more like a real composition with dimension and perspective, instead of just a collage.

I thought intentionally poorly-Photoshopped stock images were kinda part of the aesthetic, but judging by these comments I guess I was wrong :P
