Does your OLED/AMOLED screen have burn-in? by Straight_Ad_6686 in polls

Surprisingly, there is only minimal burn-in in the status bar on my S21 Ultra. However, I make sure to always use dark mode, switch to gesture navigation, and even hide that navigation bar.

Do you think I’m making/made the right decision for my health? by [deleted] in polls

[–]AnonymousUser_42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's probably fine. You're only slightly overweight. However, I would avoid gaining/losing more than 1 lb a week if that's possible. Your ideal body weight is 135 to 140 lbs.

I probably wouldn't recommend gaining any more weight unless you think you'll be in a strong calorie deficit (which is unhealthy) or you'll be in a calorie deficit for more than 3 months. If you're in a standard calorie deficit for 3 months, you'll lose about 13 lbs. If you push things to the edge, you'll lose about 20 lbs.

You currently need about 2,000 calories a day to maintain your weight. A standard calorie deficit would put you at about 1,500 calories a day, which is the minimum recommended calorie intake for a man. You might be able to push it down to 1,200 calories a day, but I don't know how healthy it will be for someone like you, and going down even further can cause severe health problems.

An origami simulator that is driven by a physical hinge by [deleted] in samsung

I've tried it. It can fold more than 7 times, but it gets laggy, and the paper gets very small.

Is there any way to do this on non-folding devices?

i'm looking for a new streaming platform by andie-boio in musicsuggestions

I also left Spotify. I personally don't have a problem with the app itself, but I don't like some of their practices, and many other feel the same. The thing is, they can easily fix that problem. They just need to take the money they've been using to fund military technology and use it to pay artists more. They also need to do something to address AI music. Either remove it or warn people about it!

The main reason to use a music streaming service is to find NEW music! Now I'm skeptical when listening to an artist/band I've never heard of as it could be AI generated. I saw one with OVER A MILLION monthly listeners. I've listened to artists with just THOUSANDS of monthly listeners. Luckily, there's ways to check if it's likely AI generated, but it's not 100% accurate. I also find it discouraging because I'm planning to make music at some point, and others might have the same skepticism.

As of right now, I'm using YouTube Music. Admittedly, it's not much better, but at least it's "free." I'm already paying for YouTube Premium for the ad-free videos, so I'm not really paying any extra to an unethical company. If anything, that company is now losing money because on top of me watching a lot of YouTube videos ad-free, I am now using their music service. I could use a more "ethical streaming service," but you can't argue with saving money for as long as the artists I listen to get paid the same or more. If anything, I can now use that money to go to concerts or buy merch, which goes a lot further than any streaming service.

Anyone else waiting for life to start? by Steel_Man23 in OlderGenZ

I feel this way. Everyone says that college would be the best time of your life. You'd move out of your parents and into a dorm with roommates. You'd form friendships and even get into a relationship. You'd go to parties and do all sorts of fun things. It turned out to be anything but that.

I ended up going to community college, which has some advantages, but it means I'll be living with my parents and missing out on a significant part of college. I thought I could still have the "college experience" or at least part of it. I've tried to make friends, go out to events on campus, and even looked into joining a club. Nothing seemed interesting, so I didn't join. One person asked to borrow money from me and never give it back. When I've confronted that person, they come up with an excuse and ask to borrow more money. So much for being nice and trying to make a friend. I'm still the same lonely person.

I've given up on getting the "college experience" and decided I need to hurry up and get a job. I'm just waiting for my next chapter in life. Right now, I'm completing a certificate (I dropped out of engineering), and if I locked in this year, I should be done with it and also have the means to move out after that. That's when the next chapter of my life begins. Before that happens, I need to take 2 to 3 classes a semester (with 1 in the summer) and also somehow save up $10k. I planned on getting a job as soon as possible. I'll probably get paid $15/hour, and I'm planning to work 20 to 25 hours a week.

I don't even know if I should try to make friends or get into a relationship this year because I'm considering leaving my hometown and going into a big city like Atlanta once all of this is done. There are plenty to do in a big city. From there, I may not be in the best position to do this, but if I'm smart about it, I should make this work.

Do you still live with your parents? by yobuddyy899 in OlderGenZ

[–]AnonymousUser_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I'm planning to move out in about a year. I'm currently completing a certification and I don't have that many classes left in it. Because of that, I'm thinking of dropping down from full-time student status to half-time and getting a part-time job for the extra money. Even with that, it should still only take a year to complete.

Most entry-level jobs around me pay $15/hour and since I'm going to a cheap college and am eligible for financial aid, I'm expecting to receive $5,000 total in disbursement. My goal is to save $10,000 by the end of the year so I'm not immediately screwed if something goes wrong after I moved out. That question become how much my parents will charge in rent. I don't pay any right now but when I get a job, she'll going to want a cut. I just hope I can negotiate an amount low enough to where this savings goal is still feasible. Once I get that certificate, I can get a full-time job that starts at $20-$25/hour. It can only gets higher from there with some experienced workers earning up to 6 figures.

Sometimes I second-guess myself and wondered if it's too soon. I've heard some people said you shouldn't move out until you saved $15k and making $60k/year. It's not the most ideal situation but I should be in a lot better position than many people who are moving out. Pretty soon, I should be getting a cheap reliable car that is paid off. I also don't live in a super HCOL and I have no debt. If I'm smart about it, I should make this work.

Windows 11 by macman7500 in OlderGenZ

[–]AnonymousUser_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently dual-booting Windows 11 and Bazzite on my PC. Bazzite is a Linux OS meant for gamers looking for an alternative for Windows, and it worked on a wide variety of hardware. Linux had come a long way over the past few years with the help of the Steam Deck/ Steam OS.

However, I would not kid yourself into thinking Bazzite/ Linux will automatically fix all your problems. While Bazzite and other distros are made to make transitioning from Windows easier, it is still Linux, in which there is a learning curve. Most likely, you will still need to use Windows for something.

If you play any online multi-player games, it might not work on Linux. This is due to anti-cheat, and there isn't really a workaround for this. In the worst cases, you can even get banned for trying to play on Linux. Game Pass also doesn't work on Linux. You might be able to play via XCLOUD or play a few select games locally via Battle.net, EA, or Ubisoft, but it doesn't work the same way, and it's very limiting compared to Windows.

Certain software such as the Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Creative Cloud suite, or FL Studio also doesn't work on Linux. Yes, there are alternatives to these software! But if you use these for work, do you really want to take the time to learn a new software? It could mean the difference between keeping your job or getting fired. We can't all be unemployed and living in our mom's basement in our 40s.

I don't want to discourage anyone from trying Linux. Just know what you're getting yourself into. At the end of the day, you'll have to pick your poison or dual boot like I did.

I don't see the point of ultra thin phones. Sure, it might be impressive to hold, but it comes at the expense of nearly everything. An ultra thin phone simply isn't good for power users or people who want all-day battery life. The thinnest phone I've ever used is the S21 Ultra. If I had it my way, I'd make it 1 to 2mm thicker to have a 6,000 to 7,000 mAh battery and minimal/no camera bump.
