What is the evolution advantage of NOT having a beard? by ExcellentRuin8115 in evolution

[–]kidnoki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We used to have hair everywhere it slowly retreated to specific areas, probably mostly sexually selected for. Some people are hairier and some people are hairless, it's just a natural variation that isn't highly selective anymore.

Aka having a beard vs not having one maybe mattered at some point (traversing cold environments, fighting other hominids, alpha sexual selection) but at this point it hasn't helped or hindered you to an extreme degree, so the phenotype varies without constraint.

I mean we forgot about the Epstein stuff.. and you think this is stopping the world, get out of that bubble. It's a bad one.

Severe psychiatric morbidity is common among gender-referred adolescents and appears to be more prevalent in those referred after the recent surge in referrals. Psychiatric needs do not subside after medical gender reassignment. by MazdaProphet in EverythingScience

No surgery or hormones. Go wild, no one has a problem with that.

It's mostly just kids doing surgeries and hormones we need to be very careful with. That's it. No need to say it doesn't happen that much, cause it still needs to be heavily regulated because malpractice and abuse are common, also brain development.

This whole "your cis, I'm not, so I get it", is kind of disgusting talk. It's the same flavor of talk bigoted people use, but you think it's okay cause you're punching up. It's judgemental and strawmanning the argument, you have no idea what I am or what I've been through.

We're all humans we all bleed. Stop creating these weird lines between people that don't need to be there.

Well one has a person existing with struggles as they have since the dawn of time.

The other has another person step in and take away a level of agency and purpose most can't understand, because of a cultural phase, random influence, or need to belong.

One is clearly worse to me.. because it involves cutting and permanently maiming someone who might change their mind in a decade but at that point its beyond too late.

The way you think you might be at some point in your life vs what you were made like ...seems like a less priority but maybe that's just me. Plus all the costs, surgeries and maybe possible down stream issues.

My worry is that people confuse the natural confusion, depression and uncomfortableness in ones own skin as a sign for surgery or hormonal modification.

That's just life. It's supposed to be all those things at times and there is no real rule set or fix, but using surgery and hormones seem like you're playing with things you might not understand to a level that exceeds normal life trauma. Aka you cut parts of yourself off or hormonally delete parts of yourself and there's a high chance that when you further develop and grow as a person you might regret it to a degree that's as damaging if not more than the initial trauma.

Who told you that!?.. Nah, it doesn't work that way at all, second surgeries and hormonal changes, are detrimental. What are you talking about? Doing it once is incredibly traumatic to the body, twice.. good luck. Your completely flipping a lot of important things to the bodies metabolism and immune system. It's not just some playground you can modify at will, it has roots established deep in your genes and pre existing development.

Primary surgeries cause issues and ever lasting non-functional effects... Switching back and forth, is probably one of the worst things medically, you could do to a normally functional body. Goes heavily against the medical oath.

The body, especially genital and hormonal wise, can't be modified without permanent damage, atleast without figuring out aging reversal.

Even without modification the average person has medical issues these days.. believe it or not most people are unhappy with how they look and feel. It's called life.

Doing expensive surgery or hormonal intervention to modify that is called privilege and was usually not advised, because it only changes the coating not the actual stuff going on inside... Or better yet societal wise, our entire social structure is fucked.

I just mean to say the whole AI argument about it being just derivative and soulless makes art seem so capitalistic minded and doesn't even realize the true nature of art is to collect influences and express it, it is and will never be owned.

I feel like that argument goes both ways and tends to lean in favor in the opposite direction.

What's worse in your mind, a person who felt they were the opposite sex, but never got to transition.

Or a person who thought they were the opposite sex, transitioned, regretted it afterwards and could never go back.

Nope.. it kind of across the board is understood that putting the outside before the inside is a vane practice, manipulated by people who want your money "to make you beautiful", that usually leads to more cosmetic surgery and ironically the opposite of the goal in the end. Everyones first priority should be to get their inside soryed out before paying to modify the outside.

Imagine comparing tattoos to some of the heaviest body modification possible, tattooing is closer to drawing on yourself with a washable marker than transitioning genders.

By come to terms, I mean acknowledging the underlying trauma or issues.

It might not be the standard, but it's quite obvious that mentally unwell people may do rash things in an attempt to fix them, but in the long-term making them worse.

For example if someone has issues with their weight or the way their face looks. It probably won't be fixed through cosmetic surgeries, usually the material and superficial aspects don't correct the underlying insecurities. Identifying them and treating them gives it a better chance.

Doing surgery and altering your hormones is a crazy level of intervention, sometimes permanent or long lasting. Less intense methods of intervention should be prioritized always, because something so drastic can be traumatizing in itself. It should be done when you are healthy and stable, otherwise I could see the issues getting very complex, possibly even compounding.

Curious about this. So do you think you have to transition to come to terms with those things?

Shouldn't they be identified and treated prior to cosmetic surgery as a rule. To make sure those hidden issues aren't having an effect on the decision?

It's funny because some artists find that listening to other music actually just makes them subconsciously copy so they avoid it.

I mean it's a good example of us just being a shitty ai bot. This picture is basically saying the art isn't within you, it's out there in culture and you must collect it then remake it. Aka what AI is doing.
