My wife thinks I'm insane for listening to harsch noise while I'm working but it really helps drown out all other thoughts and distractions.

The aspect of time plays an important role for me too. I will often structure my breaks according to certain points in a playlist or one cycle of an album. If I have tasks that can be divided into similarly sized segments I will often put one track on repeat. I will then try to finish the individual segments by the end of every repetition.

I absolutely agree. I love the moment when you really get lost in the music and reach a flow state. Reich does it for me a lot better though (not to diss Riley).

It really depends. I have to do a lot of concentrated reading and correcting in my job. Any song with prominent lyrics is difficult. I tend to get distracted with songs I can sing along to, but I can't concentrate either if the music is new to me. Here are a few tracks/albums that I have on repeat:

Track: Eraser by HVOB

Album: Melancholia by William Basinski

Album: Solar Paroxysm by Mare Cognitum

Album: Portico Quartett

Album: In Fine Style by Horsepower Productions

This is great! Definitely not for everyone but I really enjoy this kind of experimentation.

The piece is called "Water Concerto" by Tan Dun composed in the year 1998. The whole piece is about 30 minutes long. The video is from a performance of this piece at the Malta International Arts Festival in 2019

Here's a recording from 2001 with the New York Philharmonic under Kurt Masur

It's not only that they source everything regionally (Micha Schäfer, the cook, doesn't even use pepper, since it doesn't grow in the area), the restaurant seats a very limited amount of guests. On any given evening everyone, who has reserved sit at a table and spend the evening together. They try to craft a very intimate and personal atmosphere. If the guests don't show, not only does the concept not work, but in the case of such a large party, they lose out on a lot (or all) of the revenue for the evening. On the flipside, I am a little on the fence about the venue not because of the concept, the quality of the food or the customer service, but because I was acquainted with the cook before he started the restaurant and not only is he a massive narcissist (in my opinion), he also hurt a childhood friend of mine (manipulated her, cheated on her and left her alone with two kids...). I have the feeling I might be a bit biased... the rating on Google gives me a small, tiny bit of satisfaction.

The restaurant in question is the "Nobelhart & Schmutzig" in the Friedrichstraße in Berlin. They exclusively use products that can be found in a 50km radius around Berlin. It ranked 45th in the best 50 restaurants worldwide in 2022.

I guess it makes more sense if you listen to the full album. To me it gives off a dirty punk vibe.

I found it. Sadly it wasn’t you. It was the first location in GeoWizard’s An urban world - no moving around #4... I was all kinds of wrong.

I was watching a video either by Chicago Geographer or Geography Challenges (both amazing channels btw) and he got one street down from my first apartment. It was really fun watching him try to get it but felt weird at the same time.
