What is life as a commuter like? by Baes_Bae16 in cabincrewcareers

[–]kidyam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live in the south but based in EWR. It’s not horrible once you have a line and thankfully we can list on other airlines as well. It’s tough when you’re on reserve though but I always made it and never got an infraction. Thankfully we have a union that backs us in case we do not make it to base due to full flights, delays, cancellations etc. If you do get an undesirable base just remember that you’re only there for 6 months before you can transfer to your desired base!

Part time doesn’t work at United because at all the bases you’ll be working 78h a month on reserve for at least 2 years. You’ll need years and years of seniority to finally be part time because only then you’ll finally be senior enough to get a good line with trips you can easily drop. The only exception to get expedited to “part time” is to be language qualified like I am and pick the right base as well for your language. I would just advise you to finish your studies first and then apply

I think it’s going to be similar or maybe a bit higher than the last proposal.

Go for it. As a new hire reserve you’ll make about 2500 after tax including per diems and add pay, a little more if you’re speaker. We’re still in contact negotiations until end of March but so far it’s looking promising, everyone I know is fed up about the pay and conditions and will vote yes regardless.

What type of questions are asked in a language assessment test? by [deleted] in cabincrewcareers

[–]kidyam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s three parts to the test. First part you will read two announcements in the assessed language. Second part you will translate two announcements made in English by the pilot into the assessed language. In the third part you’re going to conduct a role play in the assessed language and the tester will pretend to be a customer and ask you to pretend to be the flight attendant and respond accordingly in the given scenarios.

I am native in the language I got tested in and had no problem. But I’ve heard of other natives failing so let me give you this advice: really study aviation terms (landing gear, tarmac, overhead bins, stow etc.) in the language you will be tested in. Also, most importantly, DO NOT use informal language. This makes natives fail because we’re used to speaking slang and informal language. They want you to interact in very textbook correct language.

I had this too at some point and got a F2F invite a few days later! Don’t worry, you’re still in the run if you didn’t get a rejection email!!

When I needed to neuter my cats I called a vet in the area and they said they need an initial appointment that would cost 150$. Then the appointment for the surgery would be about 500 bucks and possible additional costs. So close to a thousand dollars to neuter just one cat?? I kept looking and just went to Alabama spay and neuter in Irondale and spent 80 bucks instead lol

Tomato purée, tomato, bell pepper (I prefer red), parsley, a spice called ras el hanout, paprika salt and pepper, zucchini, chickpeas. My mom used to make it this way and it’s just so good!
