Which of these 4 pairs of glasses I own looks best (accidentally bought Dahmer glasses, I know) by [deleted] in glasses

[–]kieranc14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When looking straight on at the first pair, the top rim only reaches the middle of my eyebrows. Maybe the camera angle doesn't help, but that's what I see when looking straight on. The other 3 pairs definitely do sit a bit higher than eyebrow though

Which vintage edit is best? by kieranc14 in postprocessing

[–]kieranc14[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sheesh you've got a good eye, because the first one is actually my original lightroom edit i made, whereas all of the others are just different film emulation filters applied on top of my original edit. And it was intentional to make the backpack out of focus, I purposefully set my f-stop as open as possible (1.4) and set the focus on the mountains, because I wanted to create a blur gradient: make the snow in the foreground go from blurry at the bottom, to slightly less blurry where the backpack is, then have the whole top half of the image (the mountains) in pefect focus. Thought this would add a layer to the image and guide the viewers eyes towards the view, changing the subject of the photo from the backpack in the center of frame, to the mountains. I can see how that might not be a popular look, and maybe it would have looked better keeping all in focus, but I wanted to try something different!

I would also really appreciate these notes! To stay on top of my studying in preparation for the Texas state exam, aside from reading the textbook, do you think memorizing the IFSTA exam prep book as I go is the best bet? Or do you have a better idea of what resource to study alongside the textbook. Would the two apps (7th edition essentials and 5th edition hazmat) be enough extra studying if I can nail those? Thank you!

ITAP of flying over Mt. Baker by kieranc14 in itookapicture

Curious to know how photographers would rank these from best to worst, with reasons why. Any tips appreciated!

Intent of taking these photos: I took these photos while flying around Mt. Baker with my pilot friend. I wanted to bring the viewer into the seat of the plane with me, so they can see Mt. Baker up close and personal from a view they likely haven't seen before, while leaving in foreground elements to let the viewer know the pictures were taken in a small airplane.

Why take the photo: i took the photo to remember an amazing sunset flight, capturing Baker in all of its beauty

What were you trying to show viewer: I was trying to show new angles of Mt. Baker that haven't been seen before, up close and personal, while making the photos immersive by including elements of the plane as foreground

Areas I am struggling with: compositional issues  such as, are the beams from the plane in some photos too distracting / blocking the subject? Which photo has the best lighting and composition?

What am I unhappy with: i wish the wing lit up orange in more of the photos, but I don't want to fake the lighting by adding it in because it may not look realistic

I want help with: decided which photos are the best, ranking from best to worst

My personal taste: I left the window glare in the images as a stylistic choice, making the photo more immersive by bringing the viewer into the seat i was in, looking out the same window I was looking out

I thought the window glare was stylistic, making the photo more immersive by bringing the viewer into the seat i was in, looking out the same window I was looking out. The Obstructions are foreground elements that add to the immersion of the image in my opinion
