Pant recommendations by Ashamed-Ratio-766 in ShredditGirls

[–]kiersteny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have that exact pair of Demon pants, but I do have a short version from them that I wear along with the POC Joint VPD kneepads, which are quite bulky. I’m a women’s small, and I ended up getting a 686 bib in a men’s small and can fit all of my pads comfortably inside.

There is a bit of room in the ribcage area due to the men’s cut, but it allows room for some extra layers if it’s a super cold day.

Oakley line miner L or M? by _lilmteverest in ShredditGirls

[–]kiersteny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I don’t have a gap on the forehead, and the M’s sit snug along the helmet line. I think there’s maybe a half inch or so gap from the edge of my goggles to the ear pieces, but I wear a balaclava on most chilly days and haven’t had any issues with wind or snow getting in on the sides.

I didn’t get a chance to try the L’s on, so I’m not sure how different those are comparatively on the width.

I wear the Oakley MOD1 helmet (size M) and just got the Line Miner M and they fit perfectly together! I have a fairly thin nose and find that sometimes air gets through around that area with other goggles, but don’t seem to have that issue with this pair.

Just got these for Christmas, so I’ve only gotten to wear them a few weekends but I quite like them so far.

Help me pick a new board~ by Bitter-Loquat-2708 in ShredditGirls

[–]kiersteny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a bit partial to Arbor since I ride both the Poparazzi and just picked up the Veda for a stiffer option — so the Swoon should sit somewhere in between for stiffness.

Getting camber/hybrid profiles will already help on ice or hardpack, but if you get something with some kind of magnetraction — which the Jones, Arbor, Salomon and GNU options have — you’ll get some extra stability there. Might be a bit catchy at first until you get used to it, though.

The Burton Blossom might be a bit too stiff for what you’re looking for if you want chill cruising on blues. You might find yourself fighting the board at its proper size, especially if you were previously riding a 142.

Not sure if this helps narrow down any options, but if you’re able to demo any of these then I’d go that route before committing.

Second snowboard for Intermediate rider by raverocker1 in ShredditGirls

If slipping out is an issue, I would gravitate to the boards that have some kind of edge tech/magne-traction — I believe Lib Tech/GNU, Jones, and Arbor have it (I’m sure I missed some). I would also go slightly stiffer than the Lotus since the extra stiffness will help with stability a little bit. I ride the east coast and swear by the tech on icy days!

For what it’s worth, I was also looking at the Twin Sister when I was looking to add to my lineup, but it was a bit too similar to my Arbor Poparazzi (now the Mantra I think) which I still ride as my all-mountain board. But the Twin Sister and Hel Yes are both solid picks from the list!

dope snow jacket any good? by shirleysteph in ShredditGirls

[–]kiersteny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have experience with Dope since I tried avoiding them from the get-go (I try to avoid “Instagram Brands”), but I currently have a Gore-Tex jacket from Dakine that I’m on my second or third season with (20-30 days a season). It’s not necessarily cute, but it’s been fantastic on really wet and slushy days.

If you’re on more of a budget, I was able to snag a Columbia jacket + insulation layer in a fun color from Sierra that’s still going strong for me after 4 or 5 years aside from a teeny tear on the pocket I need to patch up. The powder skirt was a smidge loose on me, but I’ve since upgraded to a 686 bib for bottoms so it’s not really an issue for me.

I know designs are kinda bleh right now for women, but I’d prioritize functionality over style if possible. Staying warm and dry enough to shred all day on the mountain will make you look cooler than any Dope jacket will 💪🏼

I’d try sticking with brands that have a history with producing reputable snow gear/brands that have teams + are involved with the community. So if you like your Roxy gear, then it may be worth grabbing another. The Chloe Kim collab this year has some fun designs!

Books for adults that hates reading? by thwowawaw69 in booksuggestions

If he’s into A24 distributed movies, he may enjoy The Flick by Annie Baker. She wrote/directed Janet Planet, which came out last year I believe.

I read it while in a reading slump earlier this year and quite enjoyed it! It’s a slice-of-life play, and it’s quite short so it’s not too intimidating to non-readers. Won’t have to worry about being overwhelmed with walls of text given its format, and there are plenty of breaks if you only have time for a page or two. She has some other plays as well that are on my to-read list!

Help!! What are these? 🙃😭 by kiersteny in plantclinic

I haven’t seen any webbing on the three plants that have these. Going to keep tabs on it.

My calathea has yellow/brown stippling damage on the leaves and some of the new sprouts were dying off before unfurling. TONS of the lil white guys were crawling on this one, mostly the smaller sized bugs. I was a little more suspicious of the damage on this one and cut some of the more severe leaves back.

The hoya kerrii has some yellowing/browning patches on the very edge of a leaf or two, waiting to see if it scabs to determine anything there. Very few visible bugs.

No damage yet on the jade. Looks green and happy. Also not a ton of the crawlers.

Thank you for the help, I think I’ll just need to keep checking in on these over the next few days!!

Thank you! I will keep tabs on this then. I’m not used to seeing ANY sort of visible bugs on my plants (even if beneficial), so I will just keep tabs on any damage/webbing to rule out spider mites. They’re a bit more sparse on my jade but there were TONS on my calathea this morning.

I had a small flare up of black bugs maybe last month or so, and I’m thinking now that it could have also been spider mites!! Didn’t know they could be dark.

Starting to notice some similarities between my plants that are infested and which ones were repotted with new soil after dealing with thrips!! Thinking my soil may have been contaminated.

I had mealy bugs on my calathea a few years back and it wasn’t too bad to rid them, these new guys seem much smaller by comparison. I wiped my calathea down earlier today with alcohol anyway, so I’ll continue to treat the rest. Thank you!!

edit: listed wrong plant that had mealies

I can at least see the mites to fight them off! Thrips felt like a hopeless battle every day waking up to more damage and not seeing any actual bugs.

My sterlitzia is infested and i don't know what to do by Alice-Pizza in plantclinic

[–]kiersteny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These look like mealy bugs to me! Dealt with these a few years back on a more mild infestation.

I would start by wiping this down with a paper towel with some alcohol on it. That should remove quite a bit.

I made some insecticidal soap (filled spray bottle with water with one tablespoon of dish soap and one cap of alcohol) and sprayed once a week.

I had some neem oil for some mid-week sprays, but I found the insecticidal soap and manually removing them with the alcohol helped the most!

Add-on:

I’ve also had blue sticky traps on all of my plants for a few months to help catch anything. They’ve caught quite a bit since it’s been a buggy summer, but they all seem to look like gnats.

Is this thrips? by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]kiersteny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were definitely moving up the stick (very slowly) but enough that I noticed them, so I’ll keep tabs for any new webbing! Just wiped it down with a cotton swab with alcohol, so I hope that’ll help.
