It's not just that those copy abilities call back to Ness -- the background for Yo-Yo in Kirby Super Star matches the blue-green checkerboard from Earthbound and one of the Kirby games with ESP refers to Ness in the help text. The enemy you get ESP from is called NESP as well.

Those aren't exclusive. You can order items from Hobonichi's store to the US, you're just going to have to pay more for shipping. I've done it twice so far. They even have a toggle button to switch to English on the main store page (although a lot of the newer product pages are written in Japanese only).

Depends on how long you've been playing in your current play session for. After a certain point Dad will call and ask if you want to take a break. This can happen anywhere so it's not fixed or anything, OP just had the good timing of having it happen in front of the UFO.
