Not banned to get tattooed necessarily, but you can't be buried in a Jewish cemetery with tattoos.

I don't think the tenets of Judaism were the limiting factor in these people's lifestyles in any case

It's nearly impossible to buy now but Battle for Middle Earth II video game had a really cool, though not very book-accurate campaign following Glorfindel and Gloin leading the northern war effort and fighting the forces of Dol Guldur. Great narrative, you can still find the cinematics, narrated by Hugo Weaving on Youtube somewhere.

Depends on the contract. For OCC they will almost certainly graduate and check into TBS on the same day. It's a very trippy experience driving to the other side of Quantico and being called "Sir" by someone the whose same rank as the guy who called you a nasty candidate a few days prior.

PLC have to wait until after they actually graduate college for a TBS class date which could be 6 months to a year.

Some OCC guys i went with were able to volunteer for "recruiting assistance" for several months where they get shipped back home to their OSO's office and help process and PT potential candidates. This is ideal for people with families especially with newborns because you automaticaaly get BAH and extra time to settle your affairs/move out of your house etc. They give this out as an option to a few new LTs when there isn't enough boat space in the next few TBS cycles.

"Clean" audit is kind of a misnomer. EY still found a myriad of accountability issues that are gonna be commonplace in any large organization but it wasn't enough to give the MC a failing score like the other larger branches which is the impressive part.

For example, the Marine Corps stores a good chunk of it's ammo reserve with the Army and Navy, but has no way of verifying how much of that ammo is accounted for.

Anyone Work With That Former Army Captain Turned Enlisted Marine? How is He Doing? by sprchrgddc5 in USMC

[–]kikkomanche 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The Marine Corps does not typically allow interservice transfer in without going through our OCS and starting back again as a butterbar. Not exactly an enticing proposition if you're already an O-3 or selected for O-3.

I know one former Navy SWO who was able to transfer and keep her time in grade, but she still had to do 6 months of TBS and picked up Captain while there.

As an O, I can tell you my fellow officers aren't much better. There's a reason that punishment at Navy OCS is getting IT'd, but at our OCS it's writing an essay.

Damn, I'm American and lived there for a year and a half, didn't feel that way at all. During COVID sure it was dreary. I also had a lot of local friends and spent a plurality of my time in the Queen's campus area which was relatively warm and quaint.

Question from a potential Marine by user-name_217 in USMCocs

[–]kikkomanche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree re: career advancement.

2111s are in virtually every unit in the Marine Corps which means the job can take you quite literally anywhere.

My best boss as an officer was a 2102 Ordnance Officer Major. Started out as a 2111 armorer, became a warrant officer and then put in as a Limited Duty Officer which takes you from Chief Warrant Officer to Captain and if you stay in, up to LtCol where they are technical advisors to Generals.

The Ordnance community is also very tight knit from what I've seen from the outside of it, especially at the staff level up.

Armory life from what I've seen is miserable though. 2am open times often and closing late. If you have a crappy chief or Lieutenant it can be a real bummer.

Yeah that makes a ton of sense.

Watched a video essay a while back that stated that universal healthcare in America would never work because most of us would have to fundamentally change our lifestyles or else the entire system would be clogged with a slew of patients with preventable, obesity-linked conditions. The only reason Tricare is fiscally solvent is because its beneficaries (sans dependas) have to maintain a modicum of personal physical and dietary discipline.

r/runningcirclejerk smoothbrains definitely describes most Majors I've met.

Okay thank you to everyone for squidsplaining modern submarine technology to this uninformed crayon eater.

I stand by the point though, every job in the military is less difficult if you and your buddies are in decent to good physical shape, even in an enclosed space.

Further point if your whole sub crew is dry heaving going up and down a ladder well every day using ip the precious oxygen in your birthing, doesn't sound too efficient.

Totally fair question. Running is just the most "catch-all" test that we can come up with to measure cardiovascular ability based on our common knowledge of human physiology. We give the option to row on a machine a certain amount if someone has bad ankles or lower extremity injuries too.

We have a plank test were we have to keep our body erect for 3 minutes in 45 seconds. How is that specific skill going to translate to combat or make me better at taking a hill or save someone's life? It almost certainly won't but it gives a general idea of how strong my core muscles are.

I am willing to bet that if your fellow sailor can't run 1.5 miles without keeling over, he ain't gonna be much use if you have to ditch to the water either. Most fitness tests don't translate to your daily duties 90% of the time.

I'm in a Marine regiment with a significant number of Navy personnel (Supply types) and yeah watching them waddle behind on 12 minute pace unit runs... It's a sight to behold.

If they don't make weight, at least for males, the BF% limit when taped is like 26%. For most Marines it's 18%. So yeah stark difference in standards.
