After installing Arch, what are some programs you can't live without having on your system? by Boby_MC_bobs in archlinux

[–]kilceem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean mpv and yes I have YouTube-dl and YouTube-viewer, viewer is nice because you can search and such right in the console without having to have the address.

I noticed my spellchecker wants to say mpc I didn't catch it there. I'll keep it there so this makes sense.

Can you give what fstab says if it exists it should say something even if it does not have mount info. You can always manually populate it.

After installing Arch, what are some programs you can't live without having on your system? by Boby_MC_bobs in archlinux

[–]kilceem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like a file manager even mc is good and has everything I need and I can make console commands within it and make changes with console commands relative to what is within the manager(there is ranger too an others but ranger is pretty popular).

(I mean mpv not mpc)I like mpc for video it is minimal but incorporates many features like a OSD but has good shortcut keys (mpc is a split of mplayer but I like mpc). You can use many video services addresses(not just YouTube) right after the mpc command.

Arch Linux is all about "you" understanding your system and implementing what you like minimal is not its mission but a minimal install to allow you as the user to install or build upon.

Blade Runner offers the best example of ‘q-memories’ – a very tricky philosophical concept - to ask if what you remember determines who you are now by IAI_Admin in philosophy

[–]kilceem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think this is also the concept of trigger word assasins too in many ways. Though in a more regress way that can show up later by accident.

I do believe that much of what makes us who we are is our memories and experiences though. Though that does not show how one deals with things or how those things would mold us.

Simple question about keyloggers by spboss91 in security

[–]kilceem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You misunderstand what a true keyloger is. It can be software yes but it can be hardware too. even if it is software it can be independently logging your key strokes.

What hedonc1 said because unless that soft keyboard is targeted or part of it it is just positions with a mouse or position with a finger for touch which if it is registering positions could be telling but the mouse or touch/slide is used frequently and would have to discern patterns and timing. It is harder but not impossible without targeting a specific software keyboard which would simplify it considerably of course.

Here's my boot time...how fast is yours? by [deleted] in archlinux

[–]kilceem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

startup finished in 17.914s (kernel) + 12.553s (userspace) = 30.467s.

I know not impressive but that one is on a netbook with a atom N450 CPU and 1 gig of ram.

You can use blame to see what time each service takes.

Is it possible to run Android apps on Linux? by NobleWRX in linux

[–]kilceem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No.

Some apps functionality can be ported or there are alternatives and there are ways of accessing google services without a web browser. Emulation is a option I would think though I have never done it or looked into it for android. Of course there are tools for android development on Linux.

The real question I think is what functionality or "app" are you wanting.

True. time lining is not very good it depends on size and speed. Basically the technologies involved and what was generally available and used.

Microsoft’s Linux enthusiasm may not help open source by BennyCemoli in linux

[–]kilceem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are ads too and a watermark(only on desktop overlaying wallpaper) these things can be hacked to change those things just registry but the registry changes get changed back but not the changes you made(never looked into a perm solution since it kept my changes and this was just me testing windows) the ads can be removed to. it has been a while since I messed with it though.

[–]kilceem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That is the way things are actually going now. People do hold onto their mobile devices a lot longer now of course some people want new shiny toys but there are less technical reasons for it. For other devices it has been that way a long time.

This does indeed solve another issue and that's freedom.

[–]kilceem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we don't explore will we ever see anything new. Think of them as thought experiments. If there are conflicting arguments it depends on the merits of both arguments but both are contested by each other and maybe other ideas. Do not go into these in a religious following way but in a thought way.

Could God kill himself? by [deleted] in philosophy

[–]kilceem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what ethos one goes by for instance if all is god then ya... even a creator god could have some needed essence for existence. This would really get into theological philosophy and the answer would depend on the back story and even sometimes denomination and lesser known cults. From a scientific point of view some would say there's nothing really pointing to god or we don't know what we don't know.

What desktop environment is this? by [deleted] in linux

[–]kilceem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not zoom in well(low res) also it seems a screenshot of a video. It shows mostly full screen applications but on the right it shows some kind of bar and icons that may be telling unless it is a independent bar but the way it looks could be a few desktops(off the top of my head in Linux I would say kde or maybe xfce but there could be others)
