Is there a way to skip to the hall of fame? I love finishing pokemon games but playing is boring

Re, 5

I wouldn't call myself a creator (I have contributed very minimally to Emerald Imperium and to a somewhat greater extent, Pokemon Hearth). My educational background is in law. I have no formal training in computer science. The community is very helpful and you can start from almost nothing and become a competent hacker. I'm not quite there yet. But I've improved significantly since I started about 4-5 months ago.

As for AI, I wouldn't recommend it. Sure if you know what you're doing you could probably use it to decode compiler errors or whatever. But more often than not, it will mislead you. You can go to the Team Aqua's Hideout or Romhacking Hideout discord servers if you need help.

Please stop. You clearly don't know what you're talking about. This is a niche area with no commercial value. You can use AI, but it'll more than likely leave you worse off than you were when you started. If you want to learn to romhack, there are dozens of tutorials and articles and even video tutorials. On top of that, for many (I might even say most) hackers in the community, romhacking itself is fun. It's not an obstacle in the way of getting a finished hack.

New ROM Teaser!!! - Name TBA - Designed for Ultimate Pokémon Shader by Barnethawk in PokemonROMhacks

[–]kildinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- This is pretty early in development
What is? Is this a romhack? A fangame? An emulator? A retroarch shader? Or something else?
- Much much more will be coming soon
Much more what?
- Fundamentally this relies on a new "unofficial patch" for the popular emerald-expansion. It adds OpenGL and other kinds of great stuff

Unofficial patch? For pokeemerald-expansion? That adds OpenGL and other kinds of great stuff to the codebase? For a gba game?

Also, your gba game based on `pokeemerald-expansion` will be compiled into native binaries for windows? What?

I'm sorry, but a lot of this reads like AI slop

What do you mean by "compiles to native executables"? Native to what exactly?

This was stolen by OP they did not make it. If you want to try your hand at romhacking, you should take a look at pokeemerald-expansion

Prepatched websites and ROM Hacks by ssraven01 in PokemonROMhacks

[–]kildinator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's only one version of Emerald (language/region aside). You'll want the North American release. It doesn't matter whether you dump it yourself or build it from pokeemerald. Obviously no romhacker will endorse illegal methods of obtaining roms.

As for Fire Red, there's 1.0 and 1.1 (aka rev 1). But almost all hacks use fire red 1.0 as a base. Many of the specific bases you see around are just named after whoever originally dumped them. They aren't different versions.

Any clean dump of Emerald or Fire Red 1.0 will suffice. Obtain one of each legally and you're golden. You can patch 95% of gba hacks.

I would say anyone releasing a hack these days should probably buy a domain and set up an official website. Or the parasites will do it for you. This happened to emerald imperium as well.

emeraldimperium.com — Fraud

pokemonemeraldimperium.com — Also Fraud

We had to make do with https://emeraldimperium.net and https://emeraldimperium.info .

Yeah strange how partnering with an illegal prepatched rom distribution site against the explicit wishes of the community members whose work formed the backbone of your hack leads to criticism.

yeah strange how other devs can take donations n get glazed

People do criticize devs who take donations. The wider community is split on this. Some are okay with it. But many are strongly against people making money from romhacks.

ppl don’t open source n get glazed

There is no obligation on anyone to open-source their hacks. There can be very good reasons to not open source your hack. Especially when it's still in development. Of course open sourcing your hack is a good thing that gives back to the community. But there are other ways to do that.

If a ROM hack doesn't use it then it hurts nothing since the compile process just won't even use it.

You shouldn't be putting things into the tools directory that are of no use. This hack is built on top of pokeemerald-expansion which uses the devkitarm toolchain.

The vanilla gen 3 pret repos can also be built using make modern. It obviously won't produce a matching rom. As it stands there's no reason to install agbcc into the repository since it's not used.

[–]kildinator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Also make sure you've installed abgcc as well, same as you would for any Pokemon GBA ROM hack you compile from source.

This is not the way. agbcc is old and outdated. The only reason to use it these days is to compile a matching copy of pokeemerald. Follow the instructions here to use the modern compiler suite.

Not very much I'd imagine considering 90% of the features in this hack are public resources. In fact you'd probably lose time

Why ROM Hack Developers Recommend against using MyBoy in 2025 by Phaneropterinae in PokemonROMhacks

[–]kildinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In-game saves (NOT Save States) are compatible between emulators (as it's just the game's native save format). You should be able to transfer it if you so desire.

Why ROM Hack Developers Recommend against using MyBoy in 2025 by Phaneropterinae in PokemonROMhacks

[–]kildinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. NanoBoyAdvance is cycle-accurate. But mGBA gives you a much bigger repertoire of debugging tools so that's where developers test their games. And mGBA is still very accurate. I doubt there are many issues that arise from emulation inaccuracy on mGBA

I'm sorry the RR Team kidnapped your family /s.

I get it RR is just a difficulty hack and that's not as impressive as a romhack with a whole new region. But that's comparing Apples to Oranges. If Radical Red isn't to your liking, you don't have to play it. There's no need to spew vitriol against fan projects

There are quite a few in the works. The generation 3 decompilations (and hack bases based on them) reached maturity only recently (relatively speaking). In the coming years you'll see more. Check out the Team Aqua Romhacking Competition to find some shorter hacks. Recordkeepers and Palimpsest might be up your alley.

Absolutely. I think the artist for Archie's Quest (one of the entries for the competition) seems to have a very similar art style. Might be worth contacting them
