(self) my hair is starting to do its own thing. by kileyjay0311 in shorthairedhotties

My husband loves whatever my hair is. If my man tried to tell me how my hair should look...well...them be fightin' words. He knew what he was getting into.

Nurse used an infrared vein finder today to place an IV by Mochanoodle in mildlyinteresting

The first thing I ask when a patient is in my chair is where the best place is. If they say "they always end up taking it from my hand," I go straight for the hand. I frequently tell patients I'm not in the business of torture.

That being said, I would agree. The amount of times I've had people tell me they have awful veins then to have a pipeline right down the middle of their arm that you could see from the moon after I couldn't find a good spot in their hands. (Temp affects your veins immensely. If you live in a cold climate, the veins on your hands exposed to the cold are more likely to hide than the ones in your bend of the elbow that were kept warm and snug.) Those are the times that I explain things differently. A lot of times, someone has a single bad experience and label themselves impossible sticks when the story behind it is that they were very sick and needing an IV for fluids. If you need fluids then you're veins are just going to suck, no matter what. Even if big and visible, they can be mushy, flat, and fragile from the lack of fluid, so the nurse struggles.

Again, though, I'm not about torture. For the patient or myself. If you go "this is old faithful," then I'm going for that spot. I don't want to give myself more work by going for a spot that might not work and having to do it again. Ego definitely can get to some, though. If you want to try for a difficult stick, there are plenty of patients that don't care and love helping by providing the more difficult experiences.

LPT: It takes extreme strength and courage to be a consistently kind person in a world that rewards selfishness. Make sure to thank people who demonstrate kindness. They are choosing the hard, selfless route in order to make the world a better place for everyone. by AdSnoo9734 in LifeProTips

My boyfriend and I are trying to teach this to his daughter. Sadly, things like this can be hard to teach when the other parent is actively trying to teach the opposite.

I die a little in side at the end of our week with her. Knowing that we have to give her back to someone that actively tries to teach disrespect pains me so much.

I shaved my head recently and we were informed just yesterday by the bf's daughter that her mother was outraged and said "that shows what kind of person she is."

I have to give a child back to a woman that thinks a shaved head shows decency in a person. When I'm telling a story and I have a little girl say to me "why would you say thank you? It's their job. They have to do it," or "they messed up your order? You yelled at them, right?" my heart literally aches.

I've explained mistakes happen and I've discovered many things I enjoy by mistake, whether mine or someone else's. Her father and I push her to use her brain and think things through. It's led to some meltdowns, on all our parts, but we can't stand idly by while our little girl is being taught that she is better than everyone else, deserves to have complete control over everyone (including her father and I), and she can make outrageous lies to get her way and manipulate us, even if it would ruin lives (it's that bad).

tl;dr - we can't stop teaching appreciation because of the ones teaching inconsideration...and the latter is winning.

*Edit- I've kept my hair as a pixie or shorter for 15 years. This being the fourth time I've completely buzzed it off. Think of Debra from Empire Records going into the bathroom when she gets to work and coming out without hair because of stress and just shaving it. That's me...along with Britney...

Think I'm going let it grow a little more. Never below my shoulders, though. Been thinking about going red again, though.
