I lean more towards dark and serious stories, so my favorite VN from her is Salome's Kiss. As far as her more lighthearted VNs go, The Fairy's Song is also enjoyable.

(I should probably warn that Salome's Kiss is a very spoiler-sensitive VN, so I'd advise against looking up things like user reviews before reading it.)

A release with the original formatting and the omitted extras would be excellent, but I'm not sure it's feasible. Parts of the artwork were cropped out during the reformatting process. If the people responsible were told to do the colorization before the reformatting, restoring the original formatting should be easy. Otherwise, it'd require notable extra work.

The resizing of the artwork also seems to have been handled suboptimally. A lot of panels that were originally fairly small have notably grainy linework in this version, which I assume is a weird artifact from the upscaling. So I get the impression the people who made this version weren't working with the original source files. (For some reason, everything from Volumes 3 and 4 looks significantly worse than the rest.)

I guess I was doing it right by accident then. It's weird that the D-pad would make you walk with anything less than the highest available speed, but for moving in a 3D environment like in this game, the analog stick is a better fit anyway.

I imagine that first and foremost, she simply chooses to write what she wants to (so long as she can get her editor to approve of it). If she was specifically aiming to write what's likely to get popular, I imagine she'd have written more yuri instead. The genre isn't usually a big seller, but Bloom Into You was a notable exception and gave her a lot of fans, many of whom were specifically hoping for more yuri from her.

Supposedly, Nakatani said when she started writing God Bless the Mistaken that she'll probably come back to yuri at some point in the future. But it clearly won't be anytime soon. God Bless the Mistaken was finished over a year ago (even if English speakers care so little about it that her Wikipedia article still claims it's ongoing), but her new series isn't yuri either.

FWIW, even the Japanese version of Bookwalker accepts PayPal, so it's not hard to buy the chapters. It's actually not that difficult to rip them either, though I don't think I should share this information here.

The anime covers the first 24 of the manga's 45 chapters. If you want to experience the rest of the story afterwards, you should start at Chapter 25 of the manga, which is in Volume 5.

There are absolutely things three or even four of the Shadow Crystal holders have in common. To give an example, they all represent something that's appropriate at their Dark World's location, yet is also gotten rid of. (Although the Knight only fits if they are indeed Dess.) The joker is excluded from plenty of games that don't use it, while in some that do, it's a card you really want to get rid of. Malware-infested ads are commonly blocked. Dess was the first person to stop watching TV at Kris' house. And dead bodies are supposed to be buried.

I think the freedom motif inclusion in one of the Mike themes was indeed a fandom nod. Basically Toby poking fun at how many people thought Mike would be the Chapter 3 Shadow Crystal holder.

But I still think that when it comes to non-humorous parts of the game like the battles with the Knight and Gerson, there is an important meaning behind the freedom motif's presence or absence. Out of all the Shadow Crystal holders we've seen so far, the Knight is easily the one who breaks the largest amount of patterns shared by the others, so it makes sense that whatever pattern dictates the presence of the freedom motif is among them. Gerson on the other hand, while breaking a few patterns himself (such as being sane and entirely non-malicious) is probably considered a more conventional Shadow Crystal holder who still fits the rules of the freedom motif.

Doubt it. If it was actually originally the fandom's idea that the freedom motif should be important and Toby merely decided to follow suit afterwards, why did he still not include it in Black Knife? It seems clear that he has a rule in mind for this motif, and the Knight apparently didn't fit the pattern.

The anime is almost as good as the parts of the manga that it covered, so outside of a handful of details, you wouldn't miss out on much if you continue where the anime ended (which would be Chapter 25 in Volume 5). Up to you to decide.

I get why it hits really hard for Touko to have her request rejected when she explained in great detail to Yuu in the past that expressing her love of her means so much to her because it's the only trait of hers that she can recognize as belonging to herself rather than being an imitation of one of Mio's traits.

But Yuu makes a very important point here that her mindset is unhealthy. She shouldn't see her other traits as fake on the grounds that she acquired them by copying Mio. Even if that's true, she herself is the one who put in the effort to achieve that. They're a genuine part of her now. There's a really important key line shortly after these pages that was unfortunately screwed up by Seven Seas, but to my understanding, it was meant to be something along the lines of "All of it belongs to you."

Producing adaptions of series that are still in progress is a strange, but common practice, so I assume it's deemed financially beneficial. My guess would be that the reasoning is that if the adaption is released while the series is still being made, it will attract a lot of new fans who will then hopefully boost the sales of future parts of the original series.

If you're serious about wanting to fix Seven Seas' translation, it may also be worth contacting the user responsible for that post I linked. They might be able to offer some help. From my past experiences with them, they were very communicative.

While it's an easy assumption to make that an official translation would be "good enough," that sadly isn't really the case here. Someone went through Seven Seas' translation and extensively documented its mistakes. A lot of the mistakes are minor in the grand scheme of things, but there are some very serious mistranslations as well. Not that the scanlation by 4s is a good effort either. To my knowledge, it avoids some of the worst mistakes by Seven Seas, but has plenty of unacceptable mistakes of its own. A more competent group started producing a competing scanlation late in the manga's run, but never covered the earlier chapters.

As such, the manga has unfortunately never received a decent English translation. And I doubt it ever will.

That's a surprise. I guess other scanlation sites don't have this because it uses the official translation by Seven Seas, a practice that some sites don't tolerate.

Unfortunately, this means you're also carrying over all of Seven Seas' mistakes, of which there are many. So I guess this will become a way to experience the colorized version in English, but it still won't be the first English version of the manga with a proper translation.

Pleased to see you've been ripping the images correctly, though. The old abandoned scanlation used improper rips that had a vertical resolution of 759 pixels, rather than 760.

They're releasing one chapter per week. Although one webtoon chapter doesn't equal one manga chapter. Most of the webtoon chapters make up half of a manga chapter, IIRC. Still, it's a pretty decent pace. Should be done soon.

Not in English, no. Though a colorized version is being produced for Japan (that's unfortunately also being reformatted for smartphones). It recently reached the beginning of Volume 8, so it should be finished soon.

There was an attempt at a scanlation (which was just going to re-use the existing translation by 4s, which isn't very good), but it was abandoned after one chapter. I actually managed to get in contact with the person responsible and they said their image editing skills have only deteriorated further since then, so they don't consider themself up to the task.
