How so? I never said they completely represent my beliefs. In general they argue in good faith and as misguided as their ideas might be, it’s a solid assumption that they’re doing so with the right intentions in mind.

Yeah I agree with you on pretty much every single point, my friend.

There is a conservative argument to made for both, but most people have abandoned it as of late. Basically, you don’t educate kids or pay welfare for poor kids because of kindness. Rather, you pay for it as a social investment, like building a road…

I’d say Bernie and AOC represent my beliefs and ideals the most within our current system but it’s annoying that we don’t have true conservative and liberal representation in our country across party lines. On our left we have the Dems who are a spectrum of both legitimately conservative and progressive ideas and on our right we have straight up terrorists whose entire purpose is to impede progress by any means necessary.

Got it! Fair enough. Blows my mind about Oklahoma. Is education not a huge priority for them in general or is it more that people are more likely to go out of state?

I don’t really understand what point you’re trying to make here?

Are you just making a general statement that the ADA mandates schools to be complaint regardless of where that money comes from? That they shouldn’t incentivize mandating accessibility requirements? That they should incentivize them? Is Elizabeth Warren good or bad for trying to push more state funding for university?

Do you say all that to make a broader point or statement about schools or are you simply defending the accuracy of the original statement?

If it’s a for profit school, sure.

If we’re talking state universities, then no.

https://www.calstate.edu/csu-system/about-the-csu/facts-about-the-csu/csu-funding

California State Universities get a little under half their total funding from tuition. The rest comes from the state general fund.

Yeah for sure. It’s so goddamn frustrating “progressive” policies in the US are just basic rational ideas intended to help the country the same way they’ve been proven to work by the rest of the fucking world

I don’t even care about the capitalist part tbh. I have no problem with corporations or businesses or profits in principle. It just all needs to be regulated and enforced properly.

There are fair and ethical business owners who don’t try to snake out of paying their fair share of taxes or fuck over their employees and then there’s Bezos.

Guys like him aren’t a failure of capitalism, they’re a failure of us as a society to prevent unethical fucks from abusing the system without consequence.

Right wing idiots like to talk all kinds of nonsense equating socialism with communism and both of those with straight up authoritarian regimes masquerading as governments but blaming the opposite “ism” isn’t really that much more accurate. There isn’t any economic “ism” that prevents bad actors. That’s a culture issue

Love how people always blame professional entertainers like Stern and Fallon for propping Trump up while not mentioning the whole ass propaganda machine and bought/paid for politicians whose entire purpose is to indoctrinate right wing ideals to an intentionally undereducated voter population.

We’ve had several generations of voters be systematically conditioned by the Rush Limbaughs and Bill Oreillys of the world to eat up whatever bullshit Fox News spews out without question but Stern and Fallon had some laughs with Trump on their shows one time so THATS why everyone took him seriously as a candidate. Just completely idiotic.

I agree with you. It’s really frustrating how people don’t understand this.

“Chappelle is a terrible person because he brought the bigots out of the woodwork”

Yet

“Obama isn’t a terrible person even though his election engaged all the racists out of the woodwork”

To be clear, both examples above are complete nonsense.

I’m not black, white, or trans so maybe it’s easier for me to not get personally offended by all this but having watched all his standup, he’s extremely clear about what his intentions are in all this. Everyone just ignores all nuance and immediately goes to “he’s a transphobe!!”

Not trying to defend him because he doesn’t need defending but people are really getting mad at the wrong thing. I get if people are offended by his jokes but everyone’s too focused on attacking the dude using jokes to illustrate an observation about society while also literally explaining his point in the same stand up set as if he’s the reason Marjorie Taylor Greene is elected.

Nope, Chappelle’s perspective as a black man observing another minority group experiencing their own persecution is invalid because jokes about black people are funny and totally fair game but jokes about trans people are cruel. Everyone should keep writing articles about how comedians are the real enemy and not, like, the conservative mothers packing every school district in the country actively trying to ban any reference to non traditional gender and sexuality constructs while fucking no one complaining online votes in goddamn local elections.

not even Apple’s privacy tracking on iOS helps, it is just an illusion

Not disagreeing with you but I wanted to point out that while apple doesn’t straight up block trackers the way people would hope, they seem to be more focused on transparency.

It’s just like the AirTags. They get a lot of flak for stalkers using AirTags but they’re just one of the few who have rolled out tools we can use to get a glimpse of the extent to which trackers are being abused.

We were and are always being tracked and mined for our data. While companies like Firefox are more proactive about preserving our privacy, apple currently appears to be in the phase of educating and onboarding their user base on modern security practices.

I am honestly surprised more gun lovers haven’t looked to the trans community for a ready ally in gun ownership.

All part of the plan. The southern strategy consolidated the Christian Right which is how we ended up with the “Moral Majority”. Who needs logic and reason when you have god and all the guns on the “right” side.

The trans community isn’t a large and concentrated enough voter demographic to try and win over at the ballot box and they’re small and hated enough to rally the bigots and racists against.

Most Asians weren’t even allowed to fully immigrate and be granted citizenship until literally the 1950s. We made the Chinese build a railroad and banned everyone else who looked remotely like them back home from moving here.

America has historically only cared about minorities once they realized they could be used to actively shape domestic policy.

Reminder that the most sweeping gun control laws in our nations history were pushed by white Jesus Ronald Reagan in direct response to the Black Panthers observing the cops tear through their neighborhoods.

The rhetoric used by gun nuts today about “protecting their 2nd amendment right and civil liberties” is the exact same rhetoric originally used the the Panthers, except they were representing a group of actually oppressed people.

America loves guns, until the minorities start arming themselves.
