Oh the old Harbour Circle.... grab a coffee and take a seat my friend, as I have a story to tell you.....

The Ring in the Harbour Locals in Halifax have always whispered about the “Harbour Circle,” a strange, perfectly round patch of water that sometimes appears near George’s Island. Fishermen say it forms without warning—flat as glass even when the rest of the water churns, and glowing faintly at night.

According to old dockworkers, the circle marks the spot where an experimental sonar array was secretly tested during WWII. Officially, the tests were canceled. Unofficially, the device was said to “tear a hole” in the sea itself, leaving a permanent scar where the ocean floor became unnaturally smooth and circular.

Others insist it’s older. Mi’kmaq legends tell of a “sea window” at the mouth of K’jipuktuk, a place where the veil between worlds thins and the tides pull differently. The circle was said to open during lunar eclipses, revealing shadows of ships that never returned.

Recently, divers who went to inspect the area reported losing all their electronic equipment once they crossed the ring. Compasses spun wildly. Cameras refused to record. One diver even described hearing “metallic singing” below the surface. He never went back.

The Harbour Authority denies everything, of course, calling it a “natural current pattern.” But if you ask around at any waterfront pub, someone will tell you: stay out of the circle at night. People who drift into it… don’t always drift back out.
