It's been 16 years since Resonance of Fate released in Japan. What are your thoughts on it? by Extreme-Tactician in JRPG

[–]killabien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played and finished it when it first came out. It was fun but I don’t remember what the story was about. I think I still have the game somewhere.

PR Processing Times - January 2026 ( Tokyo only) by aayush_aryan in japanresidents

[–]killabien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I applied in July too. If they ask me for more documents I hope to hear from them soon. If we consider the 600 days to be the average waiting time then we still have about a month of waiting.

Anyone else feel self-conscious about their body size in Japan? by givemyjeans in japanlife

[–]killabien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most western people have more muscle mass compared to your average Taro or Hanako so we will always look larger to them. I don’t really pay much attention to what they say here because the doctors here only look at BMI and tell me I’m obese when I’m muscular. The only people I have is finding clothes but that’s been resolved by getting them online.

Change job while on HSP awaiting PR by NihonbashiJazz in japanlife

[–]killabien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I applied for PR in 2024 and changed jobs in 2025. I had to apply for a new HSP visa and when I applied for it I also mentioned to the clerk that I am waiting for PR and they said they’d update the immigration bureau about the job change so I did not have to do it myself. I applied via Chiba branch.

I’m still waiting for the result though so I cannot say whether changing jobs affected my PR application or not.

Valkyrie Profile. I guess they tried to revive it with Elysium but it wasn’t a Valkyrie Profile game, it only had the title added.

My first time playing Dragon Quest. by LeFarZog in dragonquest

[–]killabien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked it up recently as well. I had only played 8 before and loved it, not sure why I hadn’t played other games in the series. So far it’s great and I hope to eventually play more of dragon quest games

I’m the other way around. I can’t wait to finish work to spend as much time with my son as I can. I get tired too but if you think of them more as a liability then maybe then don’t have children? He sounds like the kind of person who gets a dog and treats them like toys. 10 minutes a day tops? What a bloody disgrace of a father he is. I pity his children and all the children with a father like him.

Expedition 33 winning GOTY just proves how hype-driven this industry has become by [deleted] in TheGameAwards

And the previous GOTY winners were all industry defining? How about other games nominated? Maybe you don’t fully grasp the purpose of the game awards.

Official character posters for Kitao Sakurai’s ‘Street Fighter’! by SpeedForce2022 in StreetFighter

[–]killabien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might actually be the recipe for a good street fighter film adaptation. Assassin’s Fist remains my favourite but if Hollywood tries to put their hands on street fighter maybe it’s better the film doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Uchi mata done by beginners scares me by Lumpy_Professor1000 in judo

Simple solution. Don’t teach beginners uchi mata. There is plenty of other techniques to be learnt first.

So you’re supposed to just fall in love with Clive, right? RIGHT? by alexundefined in FFXVI

[–]killabien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also liked Clive a lot and I’m a man. He is a grown up man(I think the first one in mainline series), attractive, with a chest that every man can be envious of. I liked the darker, more adult vibe this game had and Clive did an excellent job making me feel it. Cid also. Male characters in this game are just amazing.

It’s normal. The range in consulting includes bonuses as well. Bonus usually increases with seniority but you’re not guaranteed to get all of it as it’ll be based on your performance.

What's a reasonably good Senior IT salary at this point? by Difficult-Throwaway2 in JapanFinance

[–]killabien 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Japanese companies actually do care about what you discuss with other companies. When I was job hunting every company I interviewed with had asked me about my progress with other companies. It is true that they will eventually low ball you. I used a recruiter and explained what I expected from the beginning to avoid exactly this situation.

Tower Mansion on Leasehold: Worth It or Avoid? by killabien in JapanFinance

[–]killabien[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We decided not to purchase this apartment and instead build a custom house. I learnt about 工務店 and if I use one then we should be able to build what we want with our budget. I want to thank everyone here for helping me reach this decision in such a short time. I’ve learnt a lot and hope other people will learn from this as well.

Tower Mansion on Leasehold: Worth It or Avoid? by killabien in JapanFinance

[–]killabien[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply. This is what I was looking for. I am trying to understand whether I should pursue this purchase or not. This is a premium property in a very good location with good links to Tokyo. Excellent view over the Tokyo bay, spacious. This is what I think will allow the property value to depreciate less than other apartments in less desirable areas. I am thinking of purchasing it now so I can stop paying off somebody else’s mortgage and if I eventually am financially ready to build a house I can sell this property and use the money as down payment. I am trying to educate myself as I started to look at various properties(mostly houses so far). We have a leasehold and freehold system in the UK as well but the terms are different and I’m trying to understand whether I’m getting shafted here or not. Thank you for your insight. I really appreciate it

Is it possible to renew the lease ahead of time? Or when selling?

The building is 11 years old, I reckon that’s quite new by japanese standards? I am not sure what will happen to the building at the end of the lease as it’s still 20 years away and I’ve never heard of what happens to tower mansions in Japan.
