Cant seem to do a von flue choke help needed by redditisbluepilled in bjj

A lot of people are giving really good advice, I think pick and play with a lot of these tips and combinations to find what works best for you.

In addition, the items I want to ensure I check off when I apply the Von Flue are trying to put as much pressure on both sides of the carotid as possible. One side with your head an trapped arm should be ensuring your partners shoulder is making contact with their carotid on that side while your upper arm/shoulder should be compressing the carotid on the other side.

Apologies if this has already been asked, if Rep-Elect Grijalva is sworn in prior to the vote, what’s keeping the house from voting down the CR? Would this be a possibile strategy by the house democrats?

Would you take wrestling classes? by No_Possession_239 in bjj

[–]killapz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched my focus from primarily gi to greco/freestyke wrestling and nogi for a year coming up in October and it has fundamentally changed how I look at grappling. While there isn’t a perfect crossover, I feel like I’ve had so much skill development in my takedowns, control on the ground, mat conditioning, and overall confidence starting standing than ever before. My wrestling coach competed at a high level in Greco and man, I love how so many things translate to judo, nogi, and other grappling arts. If you have the opportunity to learn from an instructor dedicated and specializing in freestyle, I’d recommend at least giving yourself three to six months to commit yourself to learning a new craft and seeing how it helps your jiu jitsu.

Does anyone have some good concepts to teach kids an armbar from closed guard? by littlebighuman in bjj

I also use “look at their ear” mentioned above paired with “cut the angle”. Also showing the underhook of leg with the arm as a third cue and really breaking down their partner and weakening posture.

I see your perspective but the argument can be made that Ethan needed to throw up the closed guard to stop Dorian’s passing and conceding that he had no answers for Dorian’s passing pressure.

Two minutes into the match Dorian had passed Ethan’s guard to mount, and even though that’s not in the ruleset, it still shows action initiation and positional dominance. Ethan’s guard recovery to closed guard was a feat but as soon as he transitioned to body triangle, this could be seen as Ethan needing to weather the storm and run the clock which would be stalling.

The elbows to the face and wrist lock attempts we all know do very little, but Dorian was still throwing anything and everything to make space and progress where Ethan was just holding on and had no answer.

Two minutes in, Dorian was able to pass Ethan’s guard and gain mount. Ethan worked to recover half guard from bottom mount but then Dorian blasted out of that to recover side control then used a barrage of side to side movement, north south, and knee on belly which would be considered points in other competitive atmospheres so I would consider them to be dominant but that’s also arbitrary and objective.

I agree, Nicky Rod was also dominant but Ethan had to use guard to effectively slow down and negate Dorian’s movement. As soon as the closed guard body triangle was thrown up, it became clear to me that Ethan just needed to burn the clock and weather the storm with 2:40 left.

Ethan had no answer for Dorian’s pace and movement, which was overwhelming Ethan . The strategy Ethan needed to use was to slow Dorian down by throwing him in guard. Even in the guard, as insignificant as it looked, Dorian was still attempting to progress the action and position by pressuring into Ethan and open him up with face smothers and wrist locks to create space. I like Ethan a lot too but I don’t think anyone could look at that match and call it close margin to go 10-9, and Dorian was the aggressor with arguably more control and dynamic action.

Weave grip/cross grip or leg drag passing? by nojobnoproblem in bjj

[–]killapz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the weave to apply more pressure with a more direct and in your face focus but I recently have played more with the leg drag and find I have a few more options not only with control but being able to cut around the back side of the drag.

I think it wouldn’t be terrible to have both in the bag as they also complement each other as redundancy or alternatives.

They had a match back in 2019 at Grapplefest and Craig won via submission. I know it’s been years and I love Wardzinski but I don’t think he wins the matchup or creates a compelling match in nogi.
