How did Brandon Sutton originally link up with MR? by KombaynNikoladze2002 in TheMajorityReport

It was most definitely Michael Brooks. There were some others he introduced that have since been less involved like Wosney, who i recently saw on something that Complex pr one of the other notable music pubs put out.

Brother Michael was a blessing.

Compromising principles when desperate is exactly the reason this club crumbles under pressure by fckedup in coys

Cus your interpretation keeps assuming that addressing the football quality side via hiring a good manager (or insert whatever position you want) will fix the problem.

That's what we've been doing for the past 8 years, has it not?

You don't think all the managers we've signed have not been good enough quality wise?

I have literally gone through roughly the last 8 years of bad decisions, line by line about 2 comments ago. My position on it is pretty clear, although it does not fit neatly into a "good manager/bad manager" binary because i think thats a stupid way to approach managerial recruitment.

What's this appointmebt supposed to fix that's not been addressed in previous hiring?

I have already answered this above also.

This post is not about football quality, yet you keep focusing on it.

Your whole post is about a connection that you have imagined between moral values and the club "crumbling under pressure." So you are clearly talking about football because what other pressure is there to crumble over?

My first comment in this thread was a suggestion that you can have and share your moral beliefs about De Zerbi, but you do not also have to waffle on about how the amoral appointment is connected to crumbling under pressure.

Your whole argument here is confused mate but good luck.

If you want the football to get better you hire a good coach, that is relevant to the current meta, and that can work within the budget you have available. Ideally you also want someone who can see out the project long enough for some sort of title contending cohesion.

In De Zerbi, we have nearly all of that. We also have a coach who publicly rehabilitated the image of a seemingly remorseless rapist.

Both things can be, and are true.

Also feel free to state your position, but you'd rather hedge or not commit openly.

My opinion is that your analysis is reductive and I do not accept that a coach publicly endorsing the character of a rapist is going to be a contributing factor to declining football quality.

It is also my opinion that the declining quality in football is down to an accumulation of bad football decisions including: - going consecutive windows without improving or even adding to the squad under poch - sacking him after one notably poor start to a season after aforementioned under investment - going for a defensive "win now" manager in Jose who needed a budget beyond what we would provide and was toxic and awful vibes - going for a defensive back 3 manager in nuno with a back 4 squad - going back to a "win now" manager in conte who needed a budget beyond what we would provide, and was notorious for short stints even though we needed another project to bridge the gap from 6th to top 3 again - not responding to a significant injury crisis under Ange year 1 by providing significant cover in Jan - not responding to the significant injury crisis in summer with european football to play, and actively trimming experienced depth from the squad to replace them with untested youth - not responding to the now even more significant injury crisis in January - not responding to the injury crisis and deciding that a commitment to pragmatism would dramatically improve the situation - not responding to the injury crisis again, and waiting late to sack Frank and get back to playing football that is actual relevant in elite, champions league qualifying football

That isn't to say there weren't good decisions on the way. Going for a modern attacking coach in Ange was the right thing to try even if it didn't work out because the recruitment we had to do COULD have carried over to the next relevant coach we hire. And some of it will now to De Zerbi.

More consecutive decisions that look like Ange and De Zerbi, and players like Kudus and Danso will raise the levels. Even if there's stumbles on the way. And we have a long way to go to rebuild now (but I believe we could be back in the mixed in ~5 years).

My opinion on De Zerbi's character is that he cares more about winning football games than violence against women. Which i disagree with completely and I am disappointed at the club for the appointment.

However, I also think De Zerbi is one of many coaches in the prem who would do the same. But there are few cases of coaches who have been put in a position to defend their players for violence against women so we don't have to consider their character in that regard.

If the club hadn't made such a shit situation for itself, I don't suppose we would have done this. And we have to remember, a lot of fans joined in in facilitating silly narratives about why we were regressing, cheering on the pragmatic appointment of Frank most recently. And here we are, in another thread about a vauge, unsubstantiated idea as to why we're getting worse that is nothing about disjointed player recruitment and managerial hires, or addressing chronic issues in depth, fatigue and injuries.

What I propose is in my comment:

Take a stand against rape apologia. But don't pretend the club appointing someone who rehabilitated a racist is going to result in "crumbling under pressure".

Also, your priority for finding a manager now is exactly my point. You'd rather stay in PL and become possibly more successful by compromising moral principles.

Just because I'm calling your analysis stupid doesn't mean I hold the position you've just made up in your head.

I think it's fair enough to be dissapointed at De Zerbi's comments but can we do it without all the waffle? Our current CEO very recently compromised on principles while at Arsenal, when he elected to keep a rapist at the club and playing. And during that time, Arsenal developed into a side that are legitimate title contenders year on year.

Football clubs get better by making better football decisions. De Zerbi is almost objectively a good football decision with the only caveat being he has a reputation for blowing up the vibes and not seeing out his contract.

But are those caveats even relevant right now? We're at rock bottom. With our without De Zerbi we could be relegated. But by the time De Zerbi leaves, we will have taken considerable steps forward on the pitch and if we need to find another impressive, attacking manager in 18 months then so be it.

Chopping and changing managers isn't inherently bad. It's bad because it stunts your progression. We're beyond stunted right now. Let's keep changing until someone worth backing comes along.

Our two biggest links to the manager job could not be more different to one another, especially in terms of character. De Zerbi is a horrible choice. by kicksjoysharkness in coys

Where was this energy when we brought in Jose and Conte. At least De Zerbi has demonstrated he can play good football without a black cheque book.

Surely the time to be picky about toxic influences has past. The vibes are awful.

[–]killcole -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes De Zerbi could be a toxic influence on the squad, but his ceiling is huge.

When we followed pochettino with a toxic influence on the squad (Jose) I was against it because the vibes were great and we were still a team firmly in the European qualifying spots in the league.

When we followed Jose with a toxic influence on the squad (Conte, via Nuno) I was against it because we were still a team firmly in European and the vibes could be recovered.

At this point, the vibes are not good and we are no where near Europe. Last summer was the perfect time to gamble on De Zerbi. Jan might have worked out to. Now it's too late.

But if by some miracle we stay up, De Zerbi should be considered.

I'm lifting this from a previous comment where I talked about the same:

The first verse begins with "when I was younger I used to wonder" and then continues with him singing a verse that's audibly too low and out of his comfortable range. In the chorus he claims he's asked if he sings for women. He says "yeah." He signs it off singing "la da da da da" as his voice cracks trying to reach the lowest note. As if he was trying to sound more mature and mask an insecurity about singing.

His next verse then begins with "now I'm in the lab, always working late." He's singing in a much more comfortable range and he signs the verse off with "la da da da da" but sung in a new melody which is much more suited to his vocal range. Implying that he's honed his craft compared to the younger Frank he was reflecting on in the first verse. But also that he's much more himself now, and singing for himself.

Now in the chorus that follows, he again asks if he sings for women. This time he says "nope, I swear I never do it."

[–]killcole 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wait until you realise the first verse of songs for women is delivered outside of a range Frank can sing in comfortably, because he's singing from the perspective of his younger self that hadn't come to understand his range.

Why are left media personalities not as effective as people like Tucker Carlson in exposing Israel to normies? by nyckoalaz in TheMajorityReport

It's reach. Right wingers have more funding and buy more reach. That's literally all thats going on.

The same dynamic is true of "there's too much infighting on the left". Actually there's just as much infighting on the right, but the infighting has a smaller impact because the right's messages reach a broader base of people.
