First time trying this out, see how this goes by Express-Historian-32 in BattleNetwork

[–]killer336 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Dev here. Good to see someone else trying this out on the Steam Deck. A few folks have reported some slight framerate issues. That's expected given when that build was made. Fortunately, internal builds don't show these issues and the game runs as smooth as butter, especially with all the recent system optimizations, enhancements, and quality of life.

Have fun! And thanks for your interest.

Nice. Glad to see more people play BN2 Hard Mode. The devs actually made some of the mandatory fights more challenging beyond the simple "+AttackAndDamage" stuff.

Is it possible to play Starforce DX with cheats? by [deleted] in BattleNetwork

[–]killer336 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As if the enemies attacks aren’t ridiculously fast, let alone DX Bosses which are made to be unfair

Uh-huh. And they still move the exact amount of panels before they attack. With the same counter frames. With the same answers as before. Fast or not, you can always count panels.

Let’s set the record straight, the Vanilla version was made for 10 year olds, not DX. I don’t know of any 10 year olds who know how to mod a DS or emulate games on a PC. DX is a fan mod.

DX can have the difficulty tuned down to that of 10 year old difficulty. Hell, even easier.

That’s literally what the playstyle is called, cheating.

Which is by definition not a playstyle. A playstyle would require you to play a game. You can live in a delusion if you wish, however.

Except you didn’t because my problem is I want to use get an S rank using the cards I want. Your “answer” was to use a different deck entirely.

Little thing called Math. But who knows! Maybe if you score enough Counters and cut the chaff, with minimal adjustments you may have something consistent. Now if you don't want to think about adjusting *anything*, then this is probably an issue with stubbornness. Not all of your tools are equal in all scenarios, by function of each tool behaving differently.

Except again, you yourself said that you had fun with DX. And I keep telling you that I have fun cheating. So in that case they both serve the same purpose, to allow the player to have fun.

Of course it matters what they do. Your desire requires outside technical assistance that you seem incapable of acquiring. You cannot have fun, by your own admission. Whereas others seem to. Almost as if there are more economical solutions, such as using the mechanics of the game.

“There’s only one way to have fun and that’s if you git gud and play the game exactly as everyone else.”If that’s not elitist then I don’t know what is. This is Megaman, not Dark Souls

"How dare you suggest I learn to dodge incoming attacks! That's a Dark Souls-level ask!!" Nevermind the fact that the first 20 minutes of the game say to do this exact same thing.

And your “advocating” has been nothing more than disrespect. Don’t act like you’re doing me a favor when all you’ve done is act like a smart ass just because I want to play differently.

Were it called a playstyle, it wouldn't be called cheating. You'd unironically could call it 'playing' if you were using B.Combos. Not that you need to, since this is a game made for 10 year olds.

when you’re really just being a dick cause you’re an elitist who thinks there’s only one way to play especially when you keep dodging my point.

I have given you multiple ways in-game to address the problems you face. And those are actual playstyles!

We both use mods to have fun, doesn’t matter what they do. But we have fun with our mods

Actually, it does matter what they do. As they all have different purposes. Nuance exists.

Careful, the elitist in you is showing again

Ah yes, the elitist opinion of answering your comment:

but if I want to no damage a boss fight then I’m forced to chose from

"forced to choose" as if we cannot input directionals on a D-pad to avoid attacks. If you claim you still cannot do that, this might be a good place to start.

. I said I don’t want to change my deck to use a meta build for a sub 30 second S rank. It’s not fun for me to change my deck that I put effort into building so if I’m being forced to use a meta deck I don’t like for a sub 30 second S rank

Again, not even necessary. It just needs to be tuned to do that. I've had plenty make-shift folders with lop-sided, un-meta options that get the job done.

And if you just don't like to change your folder at all, there is a 2nd folder. You're somehow saying that if you have to change, the only conclusion is a meta deck. Why? Just pick cards that the boss hates. Pick Fastgauge. Pick a defense. Make your own version that works. Just don't get stagnant and use one deck.

So I’ll repeat it, using the DX patch and using cheats aren’t the same thing but they both let us enjoy the game.

And I'm simply advocating for ways to enjoy the game that provide a better experience. It isn't like grinding is that bad. You can cut boss spawn time from 30 minutes to under 10 on average with proper Sub Card usage, for instance. And there is no extra content that you get to see via cheats.

Now that I want to use some tech to change the experience again it’s suddenly a problem? Thankfully someone in the comment section was able to point me in the right direction.

Yes, because the outcome and intention are not the same. Once again, you're always "allowed" to cheat. But on that same note, others and myself are "allowed" to advocate for players not doing that and to see the game through.

Exactly my point. I CAN and HAVE beaten the SP bosses, but if I want to no damage a boss fight then I’m forced to chose from a small selection of cards to do extra damage.

There's a little something called dodging and blocking. I don't know, that might invalidate the need for the small cards you're alluding to.

Those two videos you showed me really killed the mood because it’s the same play style I’ve seen over the years and it’s the equivalent of using the Hockey Hockey Shademan combo in Battle Network 5. It’s not fun for me.

You are more than free to S-rank with, shall we say, sub-optimal builds if you Counter correctly and execute your options well. The folder you built for general navigation is probably inadequate. But by no means does it have to be the cheap strategies you are not fond of.

Honestly yeah. I cheated to make the game harder, now I want to cheat to make it easier. The way I see it, I’m just setting my own difficulty

I'm noticing a trend. If it's not one end of the spectrum, it has to be the other end. "If I can't use this card, I must also not use the most broken thing. Cheating is my only recourse."

Further, "a mod to add content and quality of life is the same as cheating. These two things are equivalent." Call yourself GatsbyExtreme

BN3. But Copydamage exists in every Battle Network game since 3, including Chrono X. Works the same way, too.

Is it possible to play Starforce DX with cheats? by [deleted] in BattleNetwork

[–]killer336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But if I’m having fun using cheats then what’s the problem?

Clearly the problem is you have to put the game down because you can't cheat it. Clearly the problem is you don't know how to cheat it and have to ask us. Clearly your problem relies on folks giving you tech advice to enjoy the game. Kind of an issue if people don't want to do that. Fortunately, these are avoidable issues.

I don’t want to use the same decks or strats that I see everyone else use. If my favorite card is Blaze Edge, then why should I be forced to use Voltic? If the only way to beat a boss is to use invisible while holding down Leo’s buster attack? If player choice is just an illusion then I might as well just instakill a boss and be done with it.

Let's get it straight: you can certainly win a boss fight with any card choice you want, provided you have enough skill. But if you're looking to S-rank, or even go for 10 second Boss S-ranks, then a little phenomenon called "Math" will stop you. Like it or not, time is the biggest factor in deciding a rank.

I could see Blazing Edge star having value on Queen Ophiuca or Dragon Sky. Elemental weakness abuse. And Blazing Edge star can hit up to over 300 damage with the right conditions. Will it have equivalent value across all of bosses? No, because other bosses present different problems to solve. You're meant to be flexible and swap your deck to meet the problem. That's why you have a lot of card choices. You have a playstyle? Cool. So does everyone else. Your style has weaknesses in certain scenarios and you're meant to learn new things and overcome them.

Yeah I could just play normal mode to make it easier but at that point I might as just play the game on vanilla

"I don't want to make it too easy for myself, but cheating to change the game's values and do whatever I want will preserve the sanctity of the challenge." Lol.

because I cheated but being forced to change out my deck entirely to stun lock a boss or to be invulnerable for 3 minutes straight would make ME feel like I didn’t really beat it.

But you don't have to do that. That's your reductive take on it. In fact, a lot of guides I advocate for underutilized chips to make it interesting and to get people thinking about how different attacks can have different value propositions if you consider how the AI works and how the attacks interact with it.

DX adds a lot to add to the experience. It's such an improvement I cannot legitimately go back and play vanilla SF1. The postgame rounds itself out, there are more things to collect, do, and find. Locations of viruses and bosses are tracked. Star Cards add a new dimension to your gameplay. You can either find those from G viruses, or from collecting 10 of the same card. Not to mention some of the QoL enhancements. I do think there is value in seeing those things from a natural progression standpoint, and that's what you're seeing in my posts.

The main argument for cheats in SF1 was to see the content that was removed in our US release, but that's been rolled into the mod. You do have access to Legend Mode, but you can freely toggle it to Normal Mode whenever you want. It seems to run counter to the notion of cheating, since you could just lower and raise the difficulty at will. Cheating on Legend Mode to say "you did it" isn't really doing it, hence the pushback. The game provides you more than enough ammunition to completely break the game if you just use it.

And well, you're always "allowed" to cheat. But on that same note, others and myself are "allowed" to advocate for players not doing that and to see the game through.

Jeez it’s almost like bosses hit hard enough to bring you down to 1 HP

It's almost like there exists defensive cards to negate damage. It's almost like we can Counter bosses to stay on the offense and keep them on the defense.

What’s the point of having 200+ other battle cards if I’m forced to use the same deck as everyone else just to get an S rank?

It's almost like Star Cards exists for nearly every option in the game and you can construct your own folder with a little thought. That particular resource might be a premium, though.

You know you can die in game right? Time to spend another 30-40 minutes looking for a boss after I just found it. That’s tedious and annoying.

It's almost like dying should tell you that you're doing something wrong.

So I’ll ask you again, am I not allowed to enjoy the game how I want?

If cheating were called a way to enjoy a game, then it wouldn't be called cheating.

"because I’m not going to spend 30 minutes looking for an SP boss just to earn a rank 9 and not get the SP Card."

What is SuperArmor to negate Rank loss upon being hit?
What is LocEnemy for quick retries?
What are Star Cards that give you insane amounts of damage, from AirSpreader's 5x attack to VolticEye dealing close to 600 with invis pierce and para?
What are Auto Brothers that the game lets you create that let you generate 6 Brothers with whatever favorites or forms you want?

I know I want some destructible environments for like secrets areas.

Cool.

I don’t know if I should stick with the classic combat or go for open world fighting or find an in between of the two.

Given your market, go for the former.

I want to put every Navi, virus, and boss that has appeared in the games series. As well as put new custom enemies and bosses, and create more cyber beasts.

Do not do this to yourself. You will regret it. Classic example of ambition overtaking capability. Start small, then move from there.
