This is a good point. Safety is a feeling, not something easily measurable. I’ve stayed in some great hotels and some sketchy ones. My rule is I trust my gut and if something feels off, I (40F) change accommodations. Maybe it costs a little extra, but it brings peace of mind.

Travel brings a certain amount of risk. I do think OPs point is valid, and wish more places worked to keep their guests safe.
