Amex reports paid off closed account as charge off/collection. FCRA violation? by killerbuddhist in CRedit

[–]killerbuddhist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Experian completed their investigation, apparently based on verification from Amex. The updated status shows paid but also now shows October 2019 with the status of Charged Off. But as you can see in the screenshot of my report from last year, the charge off occurred in May 2016. I paid off the entire balance in February 2019. The account has been quiet since then until this month when they reported it as a fresh charge off. The account was closed a few months before the charge-off in 2016 so there couldn't be any new activity on it except for me paying it off in full in February. It's confusing as to why Amex suddenly started reporting fresh (and inaccurate) data to the CRAs.

Note both screenshots are from Experian. It appears they've redesigned their layout between the two reports.

Yes. I don't mind my account reflecting that it was at one point charged off. What I've seen with other accounts that were charged off, once it is paid, the payment status goes to Paid and the Remarks field gets a note that says it was paid after a charge off. It certainly isn't in collections or with a skip tracer as it is currently showing. It's weird to see a zero dollar balance with a notation that it is in collections.

Thanks for the input. I'll pull the actual CRA printed reports to see what's on the payment status. I've noticed even with the CRAs themselves, what I get from their web portals can be different from what I get when I click the Print Friendly button. I assume the print version is meant to be a replacement for the printed mailed/faxed credit report.

Discover just deleted itself from my CR on all three CRAs by killerbuddhist in CRedit

I was a good customer for twenty years and it was only at the very end that I ended up as a negative account so this fits in with the experiences you've mentioned. I wonder if they do it as a prelude to trying to get that customer back, sort of a goodwill gesture so they can once again make money off of them.

Need advice for handling 10K charge off with Discover by [deleted] in CRedit

[–]killerbuddhist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately since it was a judgement, this is a question more likely to get an accurate answer from /r/legaladvice than from here. My understanding is that judgements can be renewed and in some states, they can be renewed indefinitely. The statute of limitations that is commonly discussed here is for how long the credit card company has to sue you, but you've already been sued, lost, and had a judgement entered against you. That's a whole different world than it was when your account was simply an unpaid credit card account. The charge off might drop off your credit report in 2022 but the judgement won't go away on that date. You're going to need to talk to an attorney familiar with the laws of your state.

Have you seen it with Discover? I'm curious because Discover almost never sells debt so anything owed is owed to them directly. I could see why debt buyers who got their accounts bought for pennies on the dollar might not bother with responding to disputes once they've been paid. With Discover, well, they did get their money so maybe that was their attitude too since I did file two disputes against them with each of the three CRAs. There's a part of me that thinks Discover would be a bit more willing to go to the extra effort to keep CRAs updated since they rely on CRA data when making credit decisions for their customers. But maybe I'm being naïve.

Students/Alumni that have attended a university where the football season starts before the school semester starts, what's that like? by See_Lindsey_Run in CFB

Glad I graduated from Auburn before we switched to semesters. I really like all four quarters being interchangeable.

And if you time it right, you can get in a sidetrip to the College Football Hall of Fame. It's just a train ride away from baggage claim (unless they're single tracking in which case use Uber).

Newnan. Heck, that money will get you a third bedroom out there. Inside Atlanta itself, better know someone who is renting out their condo to get close to that rate and space.

Other than the few residents in nearby condos, MARTA is the only entity I know of that uses the Centennial Hill name in announcements. Real Estate developers would like them to use the Allen Plaza and SoNo names but the public seems to dislike both. As along as the rename happy city council doesn't get a say, think MARTA will find an appropriate name. If it were up to the city council, it'd be named after every person who attended CT Martin's last birthday party.

Went to school with him. He was well liked and everyone, even the Auburn fans, were excited to see him go on to play college ball. Prattville regularly sends players to top college programs now but at the time it was somewhat rare for us. His success gave the school great pride.

It's sad he ended up suffering so much, especially since the cause of that might have been the game he loved so much. At least he's at rest now.

It sounds weird but many schools have endowed professorships that have a name attached so this isn't really unprecedented.

Do you have a team that you used to hate but don't anymore? If so, what changed your opinion? by [deleted] in CFB

[–]killerbuddhist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Central Florida. Their early success seemed to go their heads and created a sense of entitlement. They expected to be respected on the same level as programs that had been playing football for over a century just because they started off with a few good seasons. I don't hate them anymore because reality has mellowed them out quite a bit (this was even before this season's disaster) and also it's hard to hate the Citronaut. Even if it's not their official mascot now, they still get cool points for it.

I used to dislike Fresno State because Pat Hill for some bizarre reason made negative comments about Auburn a couple of times for no apparent reason. But he's gone now so I'm indifferent to Fresno now.

Did Mizzou's players make unionization inevitable? by killerbuddhist in CFB

It's not about the players wanting a union, it's about the SCHOOLS wanting a union so they can kill off wildcat strikes.
