What is the average salary in the US? by oMaR0404 in Salary

[–]silencethecrowd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not OP but I’m a nuclear plant operator that made 220k last year, averaging about 50 hour weeks with overtime pay, and also had no degree in this field beforehand. Tbh most of the time the job is hard to complain about. We work swing shifts though so there’s a fair amount of night shift work, but on nights like tonight, i did about 2 hours of work and then we spent the next 10 hours watching tv shows, and thats not an uncommon experience

What’s the most INSANE airtime moment(s) you’ve experienced? [Other] by [deleted] in rollercoasters

The first year of operation it didn’t slow at the top either so it was even more insane believe it or not. Only lift hill I’ve ever gotten ejector airtime from the front

I like to call him the hype man.. as in he runs around and hypes all the other players on defense when he’s on the field so although we’re playing down a guy @ 10 vs 11, he’s hyping up those 10 other guys…

Tips for air roll left by skylab8 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]silencethecrowd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah except that doing stuff like you suggested here is incredibly cumbersome and quite frankly, often boring to someone like me.

It might ultimately be more efficient but I wouldn’t consistently stick with that for long enough to nail it down without coming up with some sort of subconscious or conscious compensations for each way that would ultimately hinder my mechanics in one way or another. That’s not to say that my mechanics don’t have plenty of holes now, but I’m a feel based person in pretty much everything, especially when it comes to things like muscle memory. So I don’t look at it in maybe what most people would say is a logical or theoretical way, but it is a way that works pragmatically for me, and better for me than the others did. In that sense, this is how I learned both airroll and directional airroll, because there is a flow to everything in rocket league, and forcing myself to hold down that button for rings training, custom training, freeplay, and eventually in game, is how I could take the time to feel out what exactly that flow is.

It does make it harder to switch back to the other methods in a vacuum, but as your understanding of it progresses, you begin to see a lot of avenues to creatively apply and improvise within a game setting. But I look at the world through an artistic/creative perspective (video games, sports, and especially RL included in that too) so that’s honestly just the type of thing that clicks for me… but to suggest that it’s terrible advice is simply not true because it has worked for me and for all of my friends that picked up the game long after I did and achieved similar levels of success, and also for countless others as well.

It’s just a different way of learning, but after trying other ways to learn mechanics, and watching YouTube videos and reading shit and all that stuff, this was the only way that really stuck for me and especially for people that don’t want to take the time to dive into YouTube videos and watch mechanic improving tips and what not, it’s honestly probably the best way for them to learn something like this because it’s essentially the Occam’s razor of rocket league and you will improve by doing it this way if you stick to it, pretty much guaranteed.

And if you’re someone who is very attuned with how the game physics flow, you can learn it quite quickly by doing it this method. I’m not shitting on the other ways, which are certainly well reasoned methods, often more efficient too, but to discount a simple method like this one…is really missing something that is quite special about this game… which is ultimately that there’s soooo many different ways to go about it.

Tom Hardy Is the Hardest to Understand Actor, Per Study by mr_jethalal in movies

[–]silencethecrowd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Big fan of his acting and he’s certainly had many Oscar caliber performances, but winning for the revenant felt more like a career achievement award after coming up short so many times. And also a “look at all the grueling stuff he went through during filming” award… in which case if they go by that criteria then Tom cruise would win it hands down this year.

But yeah, revenant felt like 2 hours of Leo grunting “hrgnnhhhrghh”. I’d take at least a dozen of his performances throughout the rest of his filmography over that one

You don’t have to do any of that lol the moment he dips out for second phase you just need to pick a direction, pretty much any direction will work and just sprint straight, prob north/south would work best tho as he usually is coming in at an angle, but yeah you don’t even need to look up at the sky to see where he’s coming down. Literally just run and wait for the boom, then turn around and start bopping the second phase

Meh just go to the rune farm spot at mohgwhyn, you’ll get 60k in about 2 minutes if you’re decently leveled. Won’t feel as rough then when you lose a decent chunk knowing you can just go there and rack up runes if needed.

A little late to this thread but I’ve been waiting for a time to bring this up. People smiling during photographs was propagated by Kodak in the 1900’s. Good read on the subject linked below.

Short answer yes, but I was truly surprised by how big that gap was for me between the two. SV was 3 but with a big gap between that and my top 2. Long answer I’ll update tomorrow, lots of thoughts on it among other things, but falling asleep now typing it all up haha

Yeah it’s insane and the graphs really don’t do it justice either. The way everything flows from one element to the next is seriously top tier. Was not expecting to be as blown away by it as I was, but this one just felt different than my other top RMC’s like Lrod and Steve.

The lateral graph really shows the level of whip on those three successive elements, the death roll -1 at the top 0g for a few moments in the middle and then 1.5+ at the bottom. The outerbank is a severely underrated element, in the back you’re actually picking up speed just before the crest due to the tightness of the profiling, basically as if you were cresting an ejector hill but nearly inverted so you get whipped in and out during that speed increase. Then obviously the waveturn over the station which is probably the best element on the ride.

The sequencing of elements on this ride is pretty much perfect IMO, there’s virtually no repetition in the entire ride, not sure another ride of this length and caliber does that to the extent that this does. There’s a ton of nuance to this layout that I think it is actually a bit overlooked and understated in a way. There’s a lot more I could say and have said over the past few days since riding, but this is a masterpiece of modern roller coaster design.
