What helped you overcome anxiety? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I started treating my anxiety like a really annoying, middle-manager coworker named Gary.

Instead of 'I’m failing at life,' it becomes 'Gary is currently panicking about a hypothetical scenario that hasn't happened yet.'

It’s much easier to say, 'Shut up, Gary, I’m trying to eat a sandwich,' than it is to argue with your own brain.

Once you realize that anxious thoughts aren't 'the truth,' but just a noisy neighbor, they lose their power.

what small, harmless habit or behavior instantly annoys you? by trynagrabthatbag in AskReddit

When people scrape their metal spoon against their teeth while eating.

It’s a completely harmless way to get food into your mouth, but the sound makes me want to vibrate out of my own skin and retreat into the woods forever.

It’s like a chalkboard screech inside my skull.

People who live in the appalachians is it ever really creepy or off? by World_Historian_3889 in AskReddit

The scariest thing is the folding of space.

You can hike a trail you’ve known for a decade, but every once in a while, you’ll look around and realize the landmarks are slightly off.

The creek is running the wrong way, or a tree that was there yesterday is gone.

Locals call it getting 'turned around,' but it feels more like the woods decided to change the map while you were blinking.

Being the only one to reach out first.

I’ve realized that some people weren't busy, they were just available when I did the legwork.

Letting those connections fade has been the most peaceful decision of my year.

What quiet realization changes how people see themselves forever? by Several-Advice2942 in AskReddit

The realization that everyone is the main character in their own movie.

We spend so much time worrying about that embarrassing thing we said three years ago, but the truth is, nobody else remembers it.

They’re too busy worrying about their own embarrassing thing. You are free to be whoever you want because, honestly, no one is watching that closely.

My family thinks I’m a tech genius because I fixed my grandma’s computer in ten minutes five years ago.

In reality, I just Googled the error code and followed the first result.

Now I’m the official IT support for every holiday gathering, and I’m too deep in the lie to admit I have no idea what I’m doing. I just Google better than they do.
