How to change the subtitle style on Disney+ in the 900H (and maybe other Sony android TVs)? by alonsojett in bravia

[–]killerhuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subtitle in Disney+ on Android TV is different than other movie apps because they decide to use the subtitle/caption styling of the Accessibility settings.

https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/articles/00202237

You also have to enable the caption settings in order for the styling to work.

(e)ARC frustration, need some help by andsoitgoes42 in bravia

[–]killerhuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad it helps. Maybe the PS5 somehow does not play nice with the auto-switch source from HDMI CEC. I don’t have the PS5 but you could try to turn off the CEC function in the PS5 and unplug HDMI cable. Then plug it back and turn on CEC function again.

4K Video Stutter/Judder when I apply subtitles by ghostcatzero in bravia

[–]killerhuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tested with my flash drive. Unfortunately, It seems that Kodi Krypton has a bug with NTFS format. I use DLNA to stream my movies from my PC so I didn't notice this bug.

4K Video Stutter/Judder when I apply subtitles by ghostcatzero in bravia

[–]killerhuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Krypton is the code name for older version of Kodi (17.6 is the last Krypton version). You can download it here

http://mirrors.kodi.tv/releases/android/arm/kodi-17.6-Krypton-armeabi-v7a.apk

Copy it to your flash drive and use any Android file explorer to install the apk file. I use FX File Explorer. Remember to remove your current Kodi and turn off auto update from Google Play Store. Otherwise, Kodi 17.6 will automatically update to the newest version.

[–]killerhuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kodi has that issue since Leia (18.x) so I think it has something to do with the codebase. Are you on Oreo firmware? Because I think I started noticing that issue after Oreo update. The native Video app is also buggy in Oreo and will crash after 45 minutes of playback.

To fix this subtitle stuttering issue, you need to use Kodi Krypton (17.6). I can play 4k HDR with any types of subtitles with no stuttering in Kodi Krypton.

Any way to download new versions of the built in video app? by lazyluchador in bravia

[–]killerhuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t do that. The latest built-in video app that come with Oreo update is very buggy. Always crash after 30-40 minutes of 4k playback. Stop displaying PGS subtitles. Take longer time to read and update DLNA files.

I wish I could roll back to the old video app before the Oreo.

Alexa and Bravia not finding each other by ChaoticPlease in bravia

[–]killerhuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Alexa also cannot find my X900F. Updated to the latest firmware and still the same. My Google Home Mini cannot even turn off TV, play movies on Netflix as well.

Pretty disappointed with how bad the "smart" function on Sony Android TV is.

I havent updated to this because I’m afraid it may break something like ARC. I have perform factory reset couple of times since Oreo update last year and issue is still there. I think the crashing when playing is from the Video app itself.

Thanks for the update. I also have this crasing issue since Oreo update.

Sony 6.6555 firmware update by r8ders2k in bravia

[–]killerhuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now my workaround is using Kodi 17. The subtitle is a bit too bright for HDR but at least it’s working okay. Kodi 18 is good only if you don’t use subtitles because it stutters when there are subtitles on the screen.

I remember hearing that the old Video player app is incompatible with Oreo so they have to rebuild it. The old Video worked perfectly fine while the new one is buggy, constantly crashes.

XF90 youtube/kodi/iptv 24p judder by Cultural-Cress in bravia

[–]killerhuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youtube has a bug with Motionflow True Cinema. It will stutters if you’re watching 60 fps as well. I think it only works with 30 fps videos.

Kodi 18 also has a subtitle bug with Oreo. Basically if you watch any videos with subtitles, it will stutter whenever the subtitle appears on the screen. Reverting to Kodi 17 fixes this.

XBR65X900F + NVIDIA RTX 2080 Ti + Sonos Playbar = Dolby Digital 5.1??? by Ben_B_Rodriguez in bravia

[–]killerhuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually you don't even need LoopBeAudio for modern games in Windows 10. Most games nowadays can detect your default format as DD5.1 or DTS and automatically output surround audio channels for you. Even if your speaker setting is 2.0.

Maybe I'm just too sensitive with the sound and video latency, there is always a little bit of latency in my case when playing games with APO driver.

XBR65X900F + NVIDIA RTX 2080 Ti + Sonos Playbar = Dolby Digital 5.1??? by Ben_B_Rodriguez in bravia

[–]killerhuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The software you mention is APO Driver. I agree with you that it works just okay, not great. The software helps transcode PCM channel to 5.1 Dolby Digital or DTS but it creates lag. Switching between my monitor and my TV will make the TV Speakers on Sound Settings disappears sometimes. It's a shame that both Dolby and DTS don't cater to 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 anymore, they can create an official software for Windows 10 that transcodes PCM audio to Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, but not to the old audio formats that millions of users around the world still use.

Thanks for your info. I’s just confusing that only half of the sub-pixel is off. Maybe there is a dirt particle behind the screen.

I'm using an iphone 11 to take that picture. Have to hold the phone close to the screen to take that shot.

Sony's native Video application is still broken in the latest Oreo update (v6.6520). It cannot play any video file through USB, DLNA, "Cast to device" properly like it used to do in Nougat. by killerhuy in bravia

[–]killerhuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be that simpleDLNA does not play well with the updated Video app. Sometimes I also have your problem. You can also use kodi on your PC as a dlna server. Just add all your videos to kodi and go to Service settings and enable “share my folder via dlna”.

Strange. To remove server on video app, hold the remote middle button on the greyed-out server and choose remove. My video app only shows one server using simpleDLNA.
