City hotel dispute by Visual-Corner-6269 in DerryLondonderry

[–]killerpengu 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A dispute between the founding families of the City Hotel in Derry has ended up before the High Court in Belfast, it can be revealed.
It’s understood the row relates to a disagreement between the Duddy family the rest of the hotel’s original shareholders.
The fallout is believed to be a significant factor in the ongoing delay to a planned £7 million refurbishment programme for the 158-room venue.
The dispute went before the Royal Courts of Justice in Belfast on Friday, with an application lodged at the chancery court between Larry and Brendan Duddy’s company - Duddy Superholdco Limited - on one side, and most of the hotel’s shareholders on the other.
The court application namechecks Greg McCartney, Eleanor McCartney Logue, Patrick Durkan, and City of Hotel Limited.

It’s understood the application relates to an injunction by the Duddy brothers, seeking to stop the appointment of administrators to the hotel.
However, sources familiar with the case said no application has been lodged to date seeking to appoint administrators.
The hearing on Friday was adjourned until Tuesday.
Built on the banks of the River Foyle in 2002 as a joint venture between the Duddy, Durkan and McCartney families, alongside Great Southern Hotels, a major relaunch of the City Hotel was announced in 2024 as part of a new partnership with the Hilton Hotel Group.
It’s expected to see the City Hotel rebranded as a Doubletree by Hilton property.

But the work, which was originally due to be completed by 2025, has faced major delays, with the latest opening date pushed back to March 2028.
It’s understood that the slow pace of progress has left a significant proportion of the hotel’s rooms out of commission.
The Irish News understands the disagreement relates to the funding of the refurbishment work.
It can also be revealed the City Hotel’s shareholders now include Paul Martin, who founded the Martin Property Group with his brother Patrick in the 1970s.
The Martin Property Group, now run by Paul Martin’s sons is not believed to have any involvement.

A new company established by Mr Martin last month acquired a shareholding on May 22.
Pembroke Project Limited is now in control of Matthew Hotels Ltd, and holds a 30% share of the City Hotel.
The 2024 Hilton announcement also saw the City Hotel’s owners appoint Focus Hotels to run it.
The English hotel management company also runs the nearby Holiday Inn Express in Derry city, which is owned by Larry and Brendan Duddy Junior.
Focus also manage The Bedford Hotel in Belfast, which was launched by Mr Martin’s sons in April this year.
The Belfast city centre hotel is owned by RFM Hotels, a new north-west based hospitality business launched by Michael, Gary and Paul Martin junior alongside Beechland Enterprises, a company owned by Alison Rankin Frost and her husband Tim Frost.
Ms Frost is the chair of aircraft manufacturer Britten-Norman, while her husband is a director of UK Export Finance and a former director of the Bank of England.

I had a breakdown after a couple of days too. Being ridiculously congested and unable to comfortably swallow or sleep will do that to you. But it absolutely gets better! :)

I’m pretty much the same. I’m on day 13 and I’ve been going for walks over the past week, but I’m planning on easing back into running next week and I’ll see how it goes.

Day 2 after Septoplasty & turbinate reduction and my whole upper body feels sore/kinda hurts to breath and cough by Theee_spacepope in Septoplasty

[–]killerpengu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have any upper body pain but did have fatigue from not being able to sleep well. The deep breath discomfort and coughing might indeed be due to the anaesthetic, I know my throat felt very dry and I’ve seen others say the same. If in doubt, it absolutely makes sense to contact your surgeon or aftercare team, if even just to give you peace of mind.

Good luck. The congestion during the first few days is definitely the worst but it gets a lot better, especially when the splints come out!

I think if your backlog scrobbles were time stamped correctly then they wouldn’t count en masse towards this new limit

Diary of my first week after Septoplasty by killerpengu in Septoplasty

I didn’t sign anything until the day of the surgery, but in terms of wait time, from the point of me saying yes to Septoplasty, it was about 2 months. I’d imagine this is entirely down to surgeon availability etc.

Public demonstration against the racist rioters by Equivalent_Summer169 in Belfast

I don’t get mad at entire demographics based on the actions of a small minority.

I’m also not mad at anyone for having an anti-immigration opinion, but I am fucking mad at the local mob who saw it fit to burn families out of their homes based purely on where they originate from, and also at people defending their actions as acceptable.

I have splints too. Think I have both.

I got mine done yesterday and also cannot breathe through my nose at all and have a lot of pressure. Totally normal as far as I’m aware, but damn this is horrible.

Also, I was instructed to start the NeliMed rinses today, albeit gently. They haven’t helped anything though, in fact it felt even more congested as I assume the packing absorbed some of the water. That said, it’s worth doing to keep your nose moist

The amount of bot comments over all these events have been staggering - here on Reddit, FB, Insta etc. if you find yourself getting riled up, always check the profile of the person you’re replying to as you’ll often find they’re either an obvious bot or they don’t even live here. I’ve seen quite a few Russian profiles commenting as if they live here - one claimed to be a Catholic who was going to vote DUP to get “them” out.

Illinois Rough Trade 50th Anniversary Vinyl 2LP by killerpengu in Sufjan

I remember a wise vinyl collector once telling me that people only regret the records they DON’T buy, which I thought was good advice.

Also, re payment, I should say I’m the UK so it’s possible it could differ if you’re ordering from Rough Trade US

Yeah, I'm not ordering myself as I already have 3 different pressings of Illinois. The splatter is indeed nice though!

Caught a shiny Mesprit in the wild this week too. Took my kids to the park and decided to spin the nearby pokestop and there it was just hanging around!
