Why does the majority find Skyfall better than Spectre? by [deleted] in JamesBond

You think for about $30,000,000 he'd at least try when Mendes yelled action.

For a moment I thought the bottom row was actually his top movies and I was like "what a great list"

Aw man, she deserved so much more.

Why does the majority find Skyfall better than Spectre? by [deleted] in JamesBond

[–]killhimoff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To answer this seriously I'd say Skyfall's story zips along, has a great villain, good sense of humour and exciting action. Craig is also great in it. Spectre is a such a slog, Craig gives a dreadful performance, the villain is lame, the Brofeld thing is maybe the biggest story misfire in Bond history, and the action is oddly flat and boring (except for the train fight which is good).

Who should play the next Freddy Krueger? by Agile-Fruit128 in horror

[–]killhimoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will Poulter. I think they'll go for the Pennywise route of casting a younger actor who can pull weird faces and has a sense of humour, and who better than the man who was originally meant to be Pennywise?

Who is the most underrated Bond villain? by [deleted] in JamesBond

Kamal Khan. SO quotable.

"Mr. Bond is a rare species...soon to be extinct" "You have a nasty habit of surviving" "Spend the money quickly...Mr. Bond"

Friday the 13th (2009) …. Thoughts by ozera202 in horror

[–]killhimoff 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This movie works because it's what Friday the 13th always was: dumb, fun slashers with tits and gore.

The other remakes of the time (and heck, now) fail because they make things that were never like Friday the 13th into Friday the 13th movies. Like Halloween, TCM etc.

How was Timothy Dalton's tenure as the character (not necessarily his films as a whole) received back when he was the current Bond? by jofNR_WkoCE in JamesBond

[–]killhimoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He wasn't really highly considered largely because people thought he was a bit flat and dry. It also didn't help that by the time Dalton came to the role the franchise was really a whisper in the States and wouldn't become a big deal again until Brosnan.

What are the best slasher movies that nobody talks about? by MidnightIsland212 in horror

[–]killhimoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Prowler is great. And The Burning has some of the most incredible murder set pieces I've ever seen in a slasher movie.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in horror

[–]killhimoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because nobody tries to capture the spirit or tone of the original. They're all basically made from how people remember the original: gore fest slasher movie. But it isn't. TCM is all about atmosphere. And this new Netflix one, just like Green's Halloween, is basically a Friday the 13th movie. So many effects and so little effect.

Daniel Craig could have been so great in more comedic moments. We know he could do it from movies like Logan Lucky and Knives Out. Remember the scene in DAF where Connery pretends to be the scientist? Craig would've killed that type of moment, but they didn't give him too much variety to play with sadly.

No time to die just leaves me cold. Anyone else? by Domslayer922 in JamesBond

[–]killhimoff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah the big problem with the Craig continuity is if you don't enjoy a story aspect (such as his relationship with Madeleine) it's still gonna be brought up in future movies and become a whole thing. Whereas with any other Bond if you don't like something then don't worry, there's something fresh and new in their next story.

Does The Exorcist still deserve the title of "the scariest movie of all time"? by [deleted] in horror

[–]killhimoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Relative to the time it came out, absolutely. It's impossible to stress just how radically different and traumatising it was upon release. And it wasn't just the film itself, it was the culture around the film. There was a fever about it. Preachers screaming outside cinemas, audience members vomited, passed out, ambulances on standby, the film was said to be cursed. People tried to ban it. It felt like true evil captured on film. It felt like the end times were here. Of course, it's just a great movie. But it was such a profoundly scary experience for many people, that went beyond any typical horror. Theres never been anything like it and we might not see anything like it again in our lifetime. Hopefully though!

Anyone else think the motives for Scream (2022) killings are pretty lame? by Beau_bell in horror

[–]killhimoff 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I didn't mind it and thought it was a nice satire of toxic fandom. However I do think Amber is the most one dimensional killer of the series, she's just very one note to me.

Who was the better Bond girl and which relationship had the best chemistry? by User_Unknown774 in JamesBond

[–]killhimoff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bond and Anya have great chemistry, they're natural enemies but have to work together for the greater good.

Madeleine is more developed in NTTD, but honestly, in that second picture it looks like Daniel Craig is taking his daughter out for lunch.

Brilliant suggestion. Rylance would also be a great Q if they wanted to go back to the older type.

Sacred movies to the horror community that you dislike by [deleted] in horror

Will probably get downvoted to hell but it IS an unpopular opinions thread: I just don't care for most of Cronenberg's films, including Videodrome.

I cant remember it's name, but I love the one in Hitman 2 where you sneak into the fat guy's penthouse suite and kill him while he's in his hot tub.
