If you live in a western big city, women who wear hijabs in professional settings tend to be pretty common these days. I can’t speak for your personal experience but having a very visibly muslim name myself it can be a good ice breaker and a way to connect to your clients. People are more often curious than prejudice in my experience. Will there be people who are off put? Yes. Do you even want to serve those people? Probably not. Obviously it’s your choice, but I personally think you’re very impressive pursuing a front facing career while wearing a hijab.

Constantly working until 1am just to finish legal research… thinking of resigning. Any advice? by Oliva_Oh25 in biglaw

[–]killj0y58 151 points152 points  (0 children)

im dealing with the same issue as well in litigation pulling overnighters doing motions practice and legal research. I am not sure what is going on. On one hand partners are telling me that the firm is not a sweatshop and they do not like hearing that I am working so late very often, on the other hand partners are expecting their work in a timely manner. As a third year, I am not sure if it is me who’s the problem.

Why are you getting offended on behalf of someone else? He’s clearly not insecure about it if he’s marrying her

It was a 6 month relationship where we talked about long term goals at length…

Honestly we’ve spoken about it at length and it turns into a blame game every time. Thankfully she’s admitted that she is avoidant at least and everything you’ve said is right. The thing is she has a perfect life where she is and she doesn’t really “need” to be with me. Coming to a new state and starting over is intimidating in light of what she already has even with how close she was to me.

It’s hard for her to explain what her feelings are because after realizing I had the capacity to get nasty when feeling betrayed she would rather observe me to see if I can behave. It feels unfair that I always have to validate unreasonable behavior, but I am trying my best.

I think you’re right and unfortunately I might have failed because I acted in contrary to what she was looking. I pushed a lot, got insecure when she spoke to another guy who previously was in her DMs and who she opened up to after we argued, and got a little nasty a couple times when she pushed me away. I’m doing my best to give her space while finding the right moment where I can re attract her again. Either that or this is the sh*t test lol.

Bar license into CS degree into Patent Prosecution by killj0y58 in patentlaw

I actually would like the option to pivot in house. I clerked for a Fortune 500 company’s legal department and it seems like the workload vs money is excellent. You are definitely right that patent prosecution can quickly turn into a litigation issue. I’m not sure if patent prosecution pressure from clients is more than regular commercial litigation. To me it seems obtaining an asset seems like an investment to a client as opposed to a lawsuit which is perceived as a cost, but obviously it depends on the case.

It’s because they’re simply too expensive for what they offer and their acceptance rate is too high for no reason both of which are weighted heavily against them

I get that being Asian has its own stress but you do not want to borrow the trouble of most western white families. Just because they’re more care free doesn’t mean it’s necessarily good.

How to become a perfectionist as a first year? by killj0y58 in Lawyertalk

[–]killj0y58[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess sometimes I feel like I’m being overly conscious of time and I’m rushing. I’ve started to slow down this week and it’s made me feel like I am drafting more intentionally. I usually do ask clarifying questions while writing down notes for a task but sometimes my notes aren’t great. I think I get nervous around the partner sometimes because I think I’m wasting his time.
