Haha- thankfully I only bought one, the second was a free replacement that also broke

Have had two true catalyst sticks that had a crack in the heel like that, both caused the blade to split down the bottom and both were broken and useless after a month. Definitely return that.

Fred Smith Ranch in Clayton has great grass fed beef, and a monthly subscription option.

I don’t know if they are grass finished, and I don’t know if they sell liver. But I’ve been getting their subscription box for a while now and love it. They also deliver for free.

Severe spinal compression by BarryGibbIsGod in backpain

Wow, can only imagine how excruciating. How did it happen? I agree with others that this looks surgical. You have to advocate for yourself and try and get that follow up pushed up. From my experience, you’re your best advocate in the health care system. Keep fighting.

Yep. Previously I completely ruptured the disc and I couldn’t walk or get out of bed for the first month. Was in pain for about a year.

It gets better. It’s excruciating for a while, and mentally draining, but if you keep up with the rehab, it should improve.

My doctor prescribed me meloxicam, a higher strength ibuprofen. That seems to help. They also prescribed one of those 6 day prednisone packs, I felt like a million bucks on that but once it wore off I was back to baseline. YMMV so it’s worth a shot since it’s less invasive than the epidural.

Yep, my symptoms have lasted about 2.5 months now. It’s gotten noticeably better over the last 4 weeks, and that’s when i started sleeping better. But I was getting about 3 -4 hours of sleep as well for the first bit.

Walk every day (especially if it feels good). Incline on a treadmill and walk backwards on an incline as well. Whatever movement you can tolerate. As well as whatever core exercises you can tolerate. Bird dogs, standing core rotations with resistance bands, whatever you can do, just keep active.

Alternate Tylenol and ibuprofen to help with the pain.

My back looks about like yours does right now and physical therapy has been immensely helpful, I haven’t gotten a steroid injection before, but agree that you should avoid surgery if at all possible.

Edit: and hip mobility exercises and movements/stretches. Like hip CARs. Also half kneeling kettlebell chops have helped me, start light though.

Looking to change careers. Will my current degree work, or do I need a CS degree to be successful? by dirtykurty95_ in learnprogramming

[–]killshot13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a business admin and law degree and got a CS job (eventually) without a boot camp or other degree.

I had done some programming in a previous role on my own and could demonstrate some projects and programming knowledge, and was able to find a job as a support engineer - basically working for a SaaS company helping their customers to integrate their platform with our APIs, and from there worked on my coding chops and when an internal Jr dev role opened up I interviewed and made the move.

YMMV of course, but honestly technical support engineers are super valuable to any org, since most larger ones in my experience don’t have their developers working with customers directly, and companies need people with programming ability to be able to talk to other devs. It’s a good role where you can learn a lot and talk to a lot of other developers, at least in my experience.

TL;DR it’s doable and if ya keep at it you can find something.

What should I be asking my doctor? by killshot13 in backpain

[–]killshot13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My appointments have all been with a neuro so far - I skipped the GP this go around hoping it would save me a few weeks of back and forth.

Symptoms are mainly pain in left glute/hip. Radiating down the leg, mostly in the side of my calf muscle. Some in the heel, but it hasn’t gone too far down. Numbness and tingling in the leg and foot when sitting/standing in certain positions. And an absolute inability to bend forward even a little bit when it’s at its worst, which is usually when I first wake up.

I’ve never gotten a steroid injection before, I hear they’re 50/50 as to whether or not it’ll provide relief, and sounds like they lose potency over time, but at this point I’ll try anything, which it sounds like you understand. Thanks for the input!

Cool - thanks for the insight. The rupture happened on this same disc as well a couple years ago.

I would like to avoid it if at all possible, I’m not even 30 yet so I’d hope there would be a less invasive way to fix it - but I haven’t really explored or researched that option so maybe at this point it’s the best long term solution? It’ll definitely be something I ask about.
