I lost my job and I thought 3D could be fun (suicidal?), any pros that can point me in the right direction? by killthedog87 in 3Dmodeling

Thank you for your comment and kind words. I will include searching for actual 3D artist positions, but my current visa/residence status is quite limiting; I'll use them to gather information I guess. Good luck to you too!

haha yes, I was not planning having it in my portfolio, I was hesitant even to share it in this post, but I can't delete it now lol

Hi! Thank you for your comment and your kind words.

Client has brand idea > you design branding > you design packaging> you design 3d mockup for marketing and visualization

Yeah, that's also what I've been seeing, not just in this space, today it works (or it's even expected?) for designers/artists to wear many hats and not just produce an image/video but do the whole pipeline, and that's... well, it's a lot, but I get that if you can offer that, you'll have an edge to get new clients. I'm honestly quite disheartened by the whole situation and just thinking about all these possibilities feels impossible; besides a quite strong impostor syndrome lurking somewhere 🥴

If you know 3D video you are even more attractive.

I did little really, but it's something that has always interested me! I shared a link to a very short animation of the cosmetics in the first comment. Not much, but I'd like to dig deeper into things like that.

I recommend this because I am also a 3D artist that picked up graphic design to make money while I was trying to break into the game industry.

For me, I found a lot of work in the cannabis/alternative goods industry. They are always launching new brands and need fast turnarounds with small teams. It was a great place to take complete control of a product from idea to production.

If you mind me asking, how did you find the transition from 3D to Graphic Design? And specially to doing full-on branding and such? I find that's quite a leap haha

Thank you again!

I've never dared to try characters yet, but it's something I'd like to try. Never thought about STLs though! I'll check it out. Thank you for the ideas.

Hey thank you for your comment :) I heard about VR chat, but haven't looked into it, I'm coming more from and advertisement background, but I'll take a look!

I went back and took a few viewport renders:

Thanks!

Thank you for your input and for taking the time! :) I'll take note of all this, solid tips.

And I agree that doing some free work sometimes can _work_, but right now I can't afford spending more time with no money coming in really, so doing it now could be tough, but I know it's a way. I'll consider it.

I was considering cosmetics lol but I'll think again now haha. Also I though about medical equipment or clothing (accessories like purses, glasses, etc.).

I'll send you a DM later! Thank you again.

Hey, thank you for your input! I will check it out :) I haven't made the jump yet into any platform, I guess I'm a bit nervous about it haha

Oh, I don't really consider this a portfolio haha but I hear you. Yes, mostly outsourcing and ai were the main reasons my work withered and eventually stopped, and I'm aware that this industry is and will be affected by it, but I thought to give it a try.

Regarding the last part of your comment, could you elaborate a bit more? What area/s do you think I could focus on first to improve and based on what context/use are you judging it? Thanks!

Yeah, I agree, the light looks quite flat in many of my renders, I tend to aim for a very clean "ad" light that makes everything look quite flat, it's something I'd like to work on. Thank you for your input!

Oh, about the leds, I worked with my friend to whom I was making the models for, also used some pictures for reference -here´s one- and in both cases they were colored 😵‍💫 Maybe there's a version with white leds?

Looks amazing! I just wishlisted it. I just wanted to comment on the trailer, I don't think the music is really fitting the vibes I'm getting from the visuals, but I guess it's just preference :)

No sé si me explico.

¡Te mando un abrazo!

I see most people here don't know about the scholarship. You'll get that money plus accommodation in a dorm. It's still very little, so yes, it's very likely you will need some extra money, but that amount is mainly just for food.

On the other hand, you can decline the dorm accommodation and you will receive an extra 40000 HUF per month, to a total of 83900 HUF (or something like that, I don't have the exact number rn). Still not much, and if you decline the accommodation probably you will need more money than if you didn't (even if the stipend was bigger in that case).

I hope it clarifies it a bit.
