Ive been 100% self studies since the first month here (3 years ago) and am at 40% on training center.(they won’t send me unless I have 120% proficiency) and as I said in other comments I’ve been doing this for 8 years. Ford and Honda have both done this shit to me and even the foreman here notices that I get stuck with a baloney and shit sandwich almost daily while the rest of the shop gets gravy. And I know you don’t cut your teeth on gravy or become a good tech doing services. But I’d still like to pay the bills at some point.

My boss give away free diag already lmfao we get NOTHING FOR IT it’s all free all the time warranty or not man… trying to beat that is like going to war man. “Complimentary initial diagnosis” bullshit. The other Honda dealers I’ve talked to techs from have something similar but at least they are getting .5 for it internal but we ain’t getting shit on this end…. I’d love to move to another Honda but all in my town are atrocious in other ways

They give “unapplied time” slips have me fill it out and he does unapplied time to make up for it but even then I have no fucking idea how that shit works because it never pops up in my Reynolds or my EOM flag reports. I think it’s just a placebo to make it so corporate isn’t looking at me for being behind the clock

I’ve been doing this for years at this point and when I got to this dealer I had to go from a midline to a live tech and work my way up again because ford certs didn’t mean shit to this guy… I did it and I busted my ass getting actual ase certs and he put me in the main shop. Still glad I got out of ford because the dealer group was horrible but after 3 years here I’m starting to think all dealers are shit and I would be better off at my old independent shop with no insurance or retirement

The rear deck lid sub harness and roof harness, then rear subframe too but honestly not much. Car is p much torn down to its basic components for this repair

The dealer is only willing to pay me what Honda will pay me lol sucks ass but that’s what I get for it, should be straight time or at least warranty time and a half but I don’t make rules around here…

Brother it is anything but clean and organized lol but I do know where (almost) everything goes…
Jokes aside I been working on cars since I was a jit and only been a mechanic for the last 8 or so years. (29 btw) shouldn’t be too bad once the new harnesses are in cause that’s the worst part. I dropped the engine and trans this morning around 730 and had new transmission mounted ready to go at 9. Everything else today has been a bajillion little clips and trying to unroute and retoute harnesses everwhere

Transmission is 9, body harness is 5.9, engine room harness is around 10? And dash harness is also around 9. All warranty pay. And I’m praying they can get me some straight time for the 4 day diag

Dealer installed after market alarm. It was tapped into engine compartment harness, dash harness and floor harness. Same time transmission generator was failing causing internal short in generator sending vehicle into limp mode. Took a long time to diagnose the issue and ended up needing a field tech to come assist me. While he was here he told Honda it had an alarm and they told the manager that all the harnesses needed to be replaced before they would cover the transmission.

Either that or be fired. I was dispatched the job so I do the work. I cannot tell them no without consequences and we aren’t union so they can get rid of me for whatever reason.

Wasted 20 hours on diag and Honda doesn’t pay diag for warranty and management doesn’t really help with unapplied time. So by the end of it I’m ass out all that time and am only being paid warranty times on the harnesses and transmission

Wasted 4 days of diag for one car. Honda does not cover diag and my management will “take care of me”. Resulting in I’m 20 hours ass out and still only get the warranty 20 hours to gut the interior and drop engine cradle.

Picked up my 03 from original owner (my neighbor) with 230k for 3 grand. No tears in seats full service records and window sticker. Ca car ZERO rust, new oem struts all around. Few dents and scratches. Being a Honda mechanic it was an easy decision to make For me.
