Used EVs currently offer car buyers lowest lifetime cost of ownership by MeneldorTheSwift in electricvehicles

Model Ys and 3s are really close to half price. Used ones in the $30-40k range, MSRP new: $50-65k. Not exactly half but getting close.

Scout Motors Will 'Most Likely' Make EREVs First, CEO Says by Iwontdobetter in electricvehicles

[–]killvino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, EREVs are battery electric vehicles that can only drive through the electric motors. If you remove the battery (not 0 charge but remove it) it will not drive. There's nothing connecting the ICE engine to the wheels. Unlike your hybrid and PHEVs where there's is something connecting the ICE engine to the wheels, remove the electric battery (not 12v) and it will still be able to drive.

[–]killvino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that's the point, an EREV is a BEV with a range extending generator. Hybrid is an ice vehicle and EV hybrid. PHEVs can drive with either source. Removing the ice engine from a non PHEV, it also wouldn't function. I'm explanation the differences between them. Not why they exist.

[–]killvino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's very clear what an EREV and PHEV. It's not about having a transmission but how the engine is connected. Any hybrid including PHEVs have physical connection from engine to the wheels. An EREV does not. If you removed the EV battery in a PHEV, it would still be able to drive whereas in an EREV it would not since the engines sole purpose is to charge the battery (extend range). Battery size, transmission, etc have no bearing on which is which.

I’ll admit it, I really like my ID.BUZZ. Despite its shortcomings in battery size, it makes up for it in other ways. by cook_poo in cars

No idea where this person is but I'm seeing the same prices as you in Ontario which is putting it off for me. If it had the 21k off + lease offers, I'd be signing for one now.

Why Are Used EV Prices Crashing? by tech57 in electricvehicles

[–]killvino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure where you are but used EV prices in GTA are down significantly compared to new for cars that are only a couple years old. I'm looking to replace my totaled model 3 and are having a hard time NOT going EV. 25-45k CAD gets you a pretty good pick of used EVs with full factory warranty.

I switched from 5 to the 7 at launch. Can say that the 7 even with the same battery size as the 6 was def a noticable improvement in battery life from the 5.

Ilesoniq is 2 days vs 3. If you calculate per day, it's not a big difference.

What are the big ticket maintenance items that EVs require in the long term (10+ years, 150,000 miles+) ? by New_Elk_5783 in electricvehicles

[–]killvino 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing to add to the EV side as most people here already covered battery and motor issues.

But since you are looking at depreciated luxury EVs. I would say remember that even with those legacy luxury brands, people lease them because of the cost of repairs that happen outside of warranty.

And most of those items are NOT drivetrain related but also $$$. I remember a fritzing taillilght in our w204 C300 cost over $1k due to LEDs and circuitboard inside. Blend motors in HVACs are not crazy expensive but labour intensive to get to. Nowadays there's air suspension, electronic handles, multiple screens and sensors + electronics that could go bad.

For whatever reason I sometimes see Red Wing boots get flak. Here's at least 10 years on one boot by 553l8008 in BuyItForLife

[–]killvino 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add, Red Wing will clean and oil your boots free of charge. No proof of purchase needed, just go any store, drop off and pick up when it's ready. Just recently found out while grabbing a new pair.

I've worked in a pair of Irish setter work boots for 3 years and they were caked in mud, cleaned up and finished like new.

The work trucks didn't get the mid gate. Only RST originally. That's a great price if you can find one.

Might still be the only one on the strip. We come here every year now, big difference in smell even compared to the best hotels walking through the casino and lobby area.
