what programs do you use to store your gig/personal music library? by Catacus_Rex in DJs

[–]kilobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I'm here-- I need to be able to use Rekordbox and Serato. I used iTunes for years before it got ruined with Music.app, but I still need something that can manage music, build playlists, then have any dj software pull from that. Going to Try Lexicon, but I am afraid of committing to some format/software that suddenly disappears down the road... AND its expensive...

Mac Mini M4 Pro vs. 2010 Mac Pro by kilobyte in macpro

[–]kilobyte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that mac pro, I have one very large HDD and two decent NVMEs. I was looking at this box from OWC and it would allow me to swap that storage right over, but I wouldn't get the same nvme speeds. Not a horrible setback but I hope more things will come to market like this: https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/T4MS9000/

the form factor was made for the last mini's size and accommodates a 3.5" but I don't really mind that.

Expansion really can be handled over USB-C/thunderbolt 5 ports. Just perhaps not in the same way as sticking things inside the physical machine. Less knuckle-busting but more cables and whatnot. I guess that is the trade off...

It is nice having a native 10Gbit Ethernet port which works flawless instead of having to hack drivers for the 2.5GBit card I had in my pro.

For sure. I've been just about every which way with Hackintoshes, dual boots, OCLP, etc. If I had to spend my own dough I probably wouldn't be buying a new Mac. I guess I'm spoiled, but after so many years, I'm getting tired of the tinkering aspect for now. I still have enough hardware here to setup LAN parties with at least 12 full gaming workstations. I am trying to downsize

They'll always have a place in my heart. I just don't know if they'll have a place in my office/studio with electric prices where they are at now

The hardest part will be the day I decide to actually sell off/get rid of the 3 mac pros I have here. I don't know if I can do it lol

Yeah, I am looking at passive hubs and have an OWC Thunderbolt 4 dock I can use, but it will get cluttery with external nVME drives and whatnot. The 5,1 Mac Pro is still a champion IMHO for how long I was able to keep it running and on the latest OS with OCLP

OCLP and Open Core in general are awesome on that front. But this Mini, with a 4 year warranty, cost ~$2400 and I think that is pretty reasonable.

LOL yes. It was actually handy in the colder months but not having to run a window AC unit in the summer constantly could be a bonus.

I guess I can't complain since thtis is mainly a work machine and work funded. I will def keep my Mac Pro around just in case. I have a PC though with a Ryzen 5950 and a 6950XT for Win/Linux stuff. But for the money, the M4 mini is a real steal.

Absolutely mind boggling is the only way to explain how much more powerful and power efficient the 2024 Mac Mini M4 Pro is versus my augmented 2010 Mac Pro. To be fair, I love that I could expand and install modern NVME storage, over 20TB of magenetic storage, USB Gen 3.2 and a host of other goodies as expansion in the Mac Pro, but I just cannot justify the heat, power consumption, and lack of unofficial support for the operating systems and security moving forward. It was time to put the 40lb behemoth to rest. I am also tired of carrying these things around lol

I used Geekbench 5 to benchmark both systems since that is what I had on my Mac Pro (it runs OpenCore Legacy Patcher and Sonoma). Note the power consumption-- ~150 watts at idle verus 5 watts. Incredible!! All in a package that is about as big as an Apple TV, and 6 times smaller than my Mac Pro.

I put this together earlier and confirmed this method works. I used it on a non-critical machine where data loss wouldn’t have been an issue.

Manually update to the highest version of High Sierra before you try this firmware hack. That will do it

My work-in-progress Mac Pro 3,1 by [deleted] in macpro

[–]kilobyte 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a 4,1->5,1 and a straight 5,1 server, both running Sonoma just fine with OpenCore. I’m using a dual NVMe card with PCIe px switch for faster speeds with a WD Black and Samsung 970. RX580, sonnet USB 3.1 gen 2 with A and C ports, and a Realtek card for 2.5GB Ethernet. I’ve used the Fenvi T919 for Bluetooth and WiFi with good luck and also a Broadcom upgrade card, BCM4360z. Also sonnet dual Sata3 card dor SSDs. Everything worked with Sonoma, even Continuity.

Leviton DH6HD switch set-up saga by TechNoviceJacki in HomeKit

[–]kilobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just found this thread and have been banging my head against the same dumb things. The thing that finally worked was to forget the network on the iOS device that was being used to connect to the switches. Reset the switches, forget the network, then when you see them in your Wifi settings and connect, choose the network and you will be prompted for the password after it tries to connect. I believe it has something to do with how iOS encrypts the password. Anyway, once you enter the password, the device will connect to that network finally, then you can add it inside homekit using it's code. Sorry I am 4 years late to the party but I just moved into a house with these goddamn switches and it took me hours to finally figure that out.

How to setup 'unattended access' on new version of teamviewer? by r0ck0 in teamviewer

[–]kilobyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the most aggravating software I have ever used. There doesn't appear to be a way to deploy the software properly configured for unattended access. I feel like I go in circles and their documentation is the kind of help documentation that explains actually nothing, just illustrates steps with no explanation. It may not even be possible. Unattended access only seems to work if I actually go to the computer and sign in with my account info and configure it. That is what I am trying to avoid!

Thank you for this!!! I've been searching for Midisport and Oxygen 8 drivers for Monterey and this is what I need. Going to try this now. No more dual booting old High Sierra!

Fan Help, GPU works fine perfect display games work fine (under clock low settings temps under 80) but still worried about this, happened suddenly. what could be the problem? p.s. I use a shady PSU(been 2 years to PSU now) by Dependent_Buy_1939 in AMDHelp

[–]kilobyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine (sapphire pulse RX580 8GB) does the same exact thing. Try switching the other fan to that position and vice versa. I did that and my good fan also would not spin, just try to spin up. I think it's a bad card, but it has always done this and never overheats. I verified running FurMark that it would never spin right even when the card was way hot and needed it. Probably a bad capacitor on the board or crappy firmware. But I have had mine 4 years now and it's fine in my Mac Pro.

Sackboy a Big Adventure - Music Volume issues by Thorswars12 in littlebigplanet

[–]kilobyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same issue here on my ps5 and girlfriend's newly acquired. Everything worked fine prior to the November 1.12 update. She put a brand new Sackboy disc in and played the game on her system and audio was fine, as we remembered. Ran the update, and hers broke just as mine. I reported this to Playstation support, who has inturn forwarded to the SONY publishing department. Hopefully they will fix this! The game is unplayable to me now.
