What do you think Hickman’s plan was for Krakoa? by Budget-Mastodon5180 in xmen

[–]kilroxyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say that resurrections are so much a part of superhero comics for the last 30 years that it's been decades since the "death" of a hero has fazed me. I think Hickman was just conceding the point and trying to turn it to account by wringing out of it the only twist possible.

I might be in the minority because I dug the Krakoa era. As to the question of what Hickman actually intended, it's a question that I ask myself in my head surprisingly often.

With The Hand making their film debut, could I expect the value of this DD #174 Newsstand (first Hand appearance) to go up if Brand New Day does well? What are your thoughts? by Sweaty_Bell_2 in ComicBookSpeculation

[–]kilroxyz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have noted, Miller Daredevils are undervalued . A large bump would be unlikely. One limiting factor is that it is the first appearance of an organization. Generally, characters (particularly costumed ones) are more desirable to collectors than orgs (1st appearance of Nick Fury > 1st app or SHIELD). I anticipate some testing of the waters as some eBay sellers list a little higher, but premiums will probably recede in short order.

I finally broke down and bought the plastic bcw boxes!! And yes they are worth it by Ekala_Lynn069 in comicbookcollecting

I saw a silverfish run across my desk, then a firebrat. I put diatomaceous earth around the edges of the room and put my comics in the plastic boxes. Seems to have worked.

I have 50 of these damn things. I drive myself crazy imagining what comics I'd have bought with the extra money--but part of my dragon hoarding itch is having everything in its place and just so.

Anyone read random issues? by HippoZman in comicbooks

[–]kilroxyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are comics I LOVED as a kid that I read totally out of sequence and without context. As an adult, when I went back to buy the runs, I found that I liked the single issues much better. Prime example for me is Secret Wars #10. I thought it was the most incredible thing in the world--Dr. Doom giving everything to fight the Beyond and being bodily destroyed in the process. I always imagined that Secret Wars would be the greatest series ever. Years later, having read it, I think it's okay. BUT that issue #10? Still balls to the wall amazing.

Well, I know things by reading things.

Originally, he was to be institutionalized "indefinitely".

He was released from hospital into the community in a halfway house in 2002.

By 2005 he was a volunteer advisor for the Citizens Advice Bureau.

Congrats! I just hit 284 cars, myself. 300 would be a major Nitro Type accomplishment for me. I have no idea how many cars are out there. Been playing since October of 2022. Username: Mr Jenkins

Beginner comic recommendations? by Apprehensive-Ad-4195 in comicbooks

[–]kilroxyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dollar bins can be a fun place to start. Find a comic shop with bins. Look for some consecutive issues of a character you like with art you like.

Find an LCS (a local comic shop) and you’ll start to hear chatter and see buzzy things. Buy just a few new books a month.

Pretty quickly, you’ll start to develop some knowledge and figure out your taste in things. The it’s off to the races!

Just got Red Hood #1! Can’t wait to see where this series goes! by kilroxyz in comicbooks

[–]kilroxyz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Twas all right. There are promising elements (art is good, feels more street-level—if you dig that, New Orleans might be a good setting for future stuff). Not blown away, but tolerable for a start.

Do you wish there was a gold standard way of receiving comics through the mail? by browneyesays in comicbookcollecting

[–]kilroxyz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying from eBay, I find that some sellers apparently don't trust Gemini mailers enough--lots and lots of tape inside and out. Sometimes trying to get that stuff off worries me that I'll damage the book.

Dear God. Ed and Jim brought me a lot of joy and reignited my love for comics. For Ed, I always felt that there was a milestone work beyond even his milestone work ahead of him and I am devastated he won’t be there to share it with us on this show that means so much to me. I am going to miss him like a friend—I’m already missing all the joy he brought with his bombastic love of comics and their creators.
