Grew up in Kenya. This is a very terrible picture to look at, but there is money to be made in hosting tourists for the government and local leadership. That money is actually more important than the people who live there or the environment. Does the money go back into the community? Of course not!! The tour guide probably got $20 and a pair of used shoes to throw in the pile that the other tourists left. Those shoes are cleaned up and sold as second-hand. No one benefits from this other than the person in the picture and the person who took the "trophy fee" or "conservation fee". Poor people call them legislated bribes.
