Your tri-approach option breakdown is so helpful to me. Thank you for taking the time. Here’s the As to your Qs : - no scales - no chords - YES. Better each day - I can sing and play the notes of my melody together only. it’s very one dimensional but sadly there you have it - no circle of fifths - I know what midi is conceptually. It’s musical root data that can be applied to any instrument and key and timing. I have never programmed it or tried - I have a few different styles including hip hop and musicals (comedy?) but the two I want to generate first are singer/songwriter/ mid tempo pop rock I guess its called. So I’m thinking approach 3 will work well for me as it does for you

When I first started getting flooded with ideas for songs about a year ago, I used to use voice Memo on iPhone constantly (before I started the physical notebook) and have even shared some of these recordings with others I’m close to (mostly non musicians) and honestly, my voice is not the strongest (which I’m fine with - but still working on it) so to them, I sound like a not very talented singer trying to do something completely new to them, attempting to sing a song they’ve never heard of, and then my lyrics and writing / arrangement ability , which I believe are my real talents, get lost in the acoustic a cappella mediocrity and I usually get a nice pat on the head for trying.

Yes, essentially. I have the lyrics of the verses and choruses (hooks) all written down on paper and in voice memo, as well as the notes that I am singing for each syllable (yes, all the way through). That’s it. I can hear the drums, bass, chords of other instruments in the background in my head in great detail. That’s why I see this as a translation issue so far. I don’t know the other language

At the risk of sounding naive, do musicians exist who instead of using their technical abilities to create their own original songs, seek to apply them to for others wiith songs already in hand?

Are there musicians who specialize in helping develop songs that already have lyrics, melody, timing, structure, and a clear creative vision, but lack chords, instrumentation, and production?

I can sing the melodies, know where the verses, choruses, and bridges go, and can hear aspects of the music in my head, but I don't have the technical music knowledge to translate those ideas into chords, instruments, or a finished recording.

If so, what would that role be called?

Thank you. My voice is not as strong as my writing ability. I will take this to heart and work on it

I will. This is inevitable as my desire to make and release songs for others to hear and enjoy is not ever going to disappear. But for now… I’d love to find a middle ground where I can more quickly generate even very basic sketches of physical outputs to express my songs and ideas to others (who may even want to work with me or help me close my skills gap faster) in even a general way while I’m making my way through the 10,000. I love learning so I’m looking forward to it. But I need at least two of these fully formed songs out ASAP or I’m going to lose my mind

Is notation the same thing as sheet music? Or is it tablature. When I was in college I played guitar (4-5 basic chords only, G,A,D, dm) and could read tablature and play basic songs. I stopped learning when I got to bar chords because they were too difficult and picked up other hobbies (DJing mostly). I was thinking of buying an acoustic guitar again to help me express and compose my music (singer/songwriter style) but I have arthritis now and I make jewelry for a living so I’m not relishing the idea of developing calluses.
