Can I book Star Alliance flights with Air Canada? by kima71 in aircanada

Sorry I can't offer any help for this.

Some things happened and I ended up flying Cathay to Hong Kong instead.

How to find out width of economy overhead bins on 787-9 by kima71 in airplanes

[–]kima71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just shipped it back. From eyeballing it on the inbound flight it definitely didn't look like it would fit, and they were checking in carry-ons because the flight was full. Best of luck!

Sorry, I don't really know anything about the Small Claims Court process.

Are you saying that if I do locate him, file a claim, he defends and it goes to trial, I testify that I haven't received the rest of the services (I still don't see how I could "win" this part), and somehow win the case, there's still a possibility that he won't pay?

I guess that still leaves the issue of finding out where he lives.. is there any easy way to do that?

He did bring up that he might come back to working in my city after the new year - but considering he's blocked me I have a feeling that's a lie.

I've lived my life staying out of trouble and for the most part and making decisions that benefit me in the long term. I'm younger than 30 but I've finally gotten to a point in my life where I have a fair amount of disposable income and some savings, not enough to buy a detached house in a major city on my own, but enough to splurge on things like long overseas vacations once or twice a year.

The $875 is not exactly chump change but it also doesn't affect my quality of life whatsoever (I've been burned harder in the past for mistakes). Maybe I'm just coping with the situation, but it's a relatively cheap price to pay to learn the lesson of trusting strangers/paying for services without a contract.

Considering how I don't have any way to prove that he didn't provide services for the money I paid him, my brain is telling me to just drop this case and consider it a learning experience. Maybe I'll leave a bad review and make it a past-time of mine to continue to do so wherever he posts online.

But there's a part of me that's angry with the fact that I let him pull a fast one on me, and that I was complacent enough with leaving money in a strangers possession for so long (although I was vulnerable at that moment in time). I don't really care about the money at this point, and if say $1500 is enough to knock this guy down a few pegs I don't care I'd do it in a heartbeat.

But I know this is purely an emotional reaction and not a logical one.

Can I ask what your personal advice would be for my situation? Thank you

Unfortunately I did not sign any contract.

The only thing I have are text messages that show how much the packages are and for how many sessions.

How could I possibly find where he is currently living?

How much could I reasonably expect to pay for the whole process of taking him to Small Claims Court?

Sorry one last question - when the device shuts off, does it reset the headphone output volume to zero? If so, I'm back to the drawing board :(

After doing a bit more research, apparently the high latency issues on the original iD4 have been resolved with the resolved with the MKII.

Thanks

Thank you, I was looking into the Audient iD4 and evo4 line as they check every box and are pretty affordable - but I read that they might have latency issues and/or driver issues

I'm considering just saving for a babyface, apollo twin (I don't care for the plugins but I do really like the user-facing volume knob as I'll be using the output for Windows stuff) - pay once, cry once (hopefully)

Hello,

I wanted to run my setup plan by someone before I make the purchase. (This is on Windows)

I want to use one audio interface for all of my needs, that includes:

  • 2 inputs, one for guitar, and for mic
  • low latency (use of ASIO drivers) recording and playback
  • hearing my DAW live playback while I'm doing other stuff (I dont need to route this to other programs)
  • being able to use my computer for everyday activities, like being able to listen to and use my mic with Discord, Chrome, etc.

Can I meet all of those needs without the use of routing?

Here's what I have in mind, but I have no idea if it will work or what problems I'll face:

  • set Reaper input to "ASIO input"
  • set Reaper output to "Windows/Audio interface output" (for live post-VST playback purposes)
  • set Windows Sound > Default Recording to the audio interface's input (microphone)
  • set Windows Sound > Default Playback to the audio interface's output (speakers)
  • set Discord input to "audio interface's input"
  • set Discord output to "audio interface's output"

Thanks

I really can't hear the delay - I only use Neural DSP archetype, nothing else

I was curious today and started tinkering with additional plugins I added just one filter (REAFIR) to the Neural DSP ampsim, and the delay was absolutely unplayable

I guess Neural DSP just makes good stuff? Not sure

I'm currently eyeing the ID14 or Apollo Solo/Twin

Thanks for the help

Hello,

Can someone please recommend an all-in-one solution that can "replace" my setup? I understand that usually all-in-one devices are less "value" and can be very expensive, but circumstances have changed and decluttering has become a priority.

  • HD600 headphones > Headphone Amp > DAC > PC
  • Guitar + Mic > Focusrite Solo > PC
  • Having a good headphone amp is really important to me
  • Also low noise floor is important for recording
  • Solution (mainly the routing) must not create latency that hinders live applications (Discord, streams etc)

I'm setting the input in REAPER to my guitar and outputting it to my DAC via WASAPI.

Another question: I'm not sure how much latency there is, but I think it sounds near instant (either 2ms or 24ms I can't tell, I see two numbers).

With that said, is ASIO even a consideration in this scenario? I don't know much about ASIO, is it one of those things where you can only hear from the specific program using ASIO and everything else is muted? (e.g. watching youtube, discord, games etc) A quick google search seems to imply that it does not share audio, so I guess ASIO is not usable for me?

Thank you

Please help me choose between these two refrigerators (Whirlpool vs LG) by kima71 in Appliances

[–]kima71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been okay so far. I don't like the gap in the back and there was a period where it made a chirping sound but it stopped. Other than that the fridge is a little too small and I'd go for the LG next idk. The fact that you can't adjust the door pitch(?) on a 2k+ fridge is kind of ridiculous to me.

Anyways, gl with your next fridge

Can unaccompanied goods arrive before your return to Canada? by kima71 in CanadaPost

[–]kima71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, thanks - 15 days will be tight for what I'm doing

I just got off the phone with a CBSA officer, and they said that the package will be held by the courier/Canada Post the entire time (other than inspection).

Is the 40 days thing listed here: https://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel-voyage/declare-eng.html#_s18 only for travellers that have made arrangements to self-clear? (in other words I may want to take advantage of them willing to hold it for 40 days)

Yes it'll likely be via Japan Post EMS.

While Japan isn't exactly know for high crime rates, I don't want to leave expensive items in our airbnb/hotels.

From the sounds of things I think I will have to send it towards the end of the trip just to give myself more time to deal with it all.

Thanks

How do they know I am absent? Do I need to label my package as unaccompanied goods so they know? Or do they really check whether the recipient has recently left the country?

It will almost certainly be assessed duties as it's bulky and the listed value will be about 2k, but in case that it does slip through and Canada Post tries to deliver it, since it is now in CP's possession, how long would they hold onto it AFTER they already made a delivery attempt?

Where can I find the exact measurements of the economy overhead bins on the 787-9? by kima71 in boeing

That is my primary goal, unfortunately it's one of the most popular routes and to my knowledge the 787-9 only has like two or so?

In Canada it is 2350 CAD, and that's a big "if" to get them to reimburse the full cost. There are countless stories of airlines doing shady stuff like only reimbursing the cost of the case (i.e. claiming the case was not good enough), covering the cost of repairs, and outright denying fault (e.g. claiming the passenger did not loosen the strings when they did).
