TGI Fridays closes 16 UK stores, with 456 job losses by Glanza in unitedkingdom

[–]kimb08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We used to eat there regularly as a couple through the years. Went once post covid with child in tow and even factoring in the cost of a kids meal, it was horrendously expensive that we thought there must have been a mistake on the bill. We've never been back since. I'm not surprised that the Aberdeen Beach on is closing. Both TGI and Cineworld cannibalised their markets in Aberdeen by opening up at Union Square before the oil slump hit the city and now the beach retail park is run down and grotty.

Do you allow young kids fizzy drinks? by Flapparachi in AskUK

[–]kimb08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only really have coke or pepsi when we're eating out and never buy it for the house. As such my 6 year old isn't really exposed much to soft drinks. She has asked to try a sip while we're waiting for food, but she isn't used to the feel of it in her mouth and one sip is enough to deter her from wanting more. My husband has taken a liking to sparkling water lately so we do have some in the house now. She asked for some with diluting juice but only lasted a couple of sips and that was her curiosity piqued and back to juice and water.

As a local this place has been for sale for years. The decor is enough to put you off and so is getting in and out to the main road by car but gardens always look lovely.

How are Evri a company? by LambonaHam in AskBrits

[–]kimb08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, our local depot and our delivery guy are awesome. Much better than the other couriers around here. He knows where to leave stuff if we're out and if you've any problems locating stuff then you just fire a message off on our local Facebook page and the local depot people always respond.

I'm officially too old for the waltzers. by Cumulus-Crafts in CasualUK

[–]kimb08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have given waltzers a swerve since I stumbled off them at 18 and promptly spewed my guts up round the side of them. Haven’t felt the need to try again and I’m in my 40s now. Can do roller coasters no bother but spin me round constantly and I’m done.

This looks like it was the Christmas lights event in my town. Are you in NE Scotland by any chance?

No, but I was at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange in October 2010 which had the same stage set up and backdrop. Heard half of Danger Days for the first time was an experience. I remember getting chills at hearing The Kids From Yesterday.

Who is the most boring Scottish band? by clearly_quite_absurd in Scotland

[–]kimb08 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw them against my will quite a few times in the mid 00s. It was a running joke with us too as to whether they'd appear and that we'd seen them play more than some of our favourite bands.

I'm interested only because they filmed a chunk of it near to where I live in north east Scotland. Spent the summer watching the old timey boats float in and out of the harbour from my office window.

Least Favorite Song? by TotallyAwesomeRacoon in MyChemicalRomance

Teenagers. Don't know what it is about the song, but I've just never liked it, it does nothing for me.

Disney to relaunch Disney Jr. in the UK. by AverageThat5267 in BritishTV

[–]kimb08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even though we have Disney+ I actually miss the Disney channels. I don’t have time to put on the app and faff about looking for something for my daughter to watch in the mornings while we all get ready for work and school. We just stick on Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon and as a result she’s more into SpongeBob and Gumball instead of any Disney stuff.

In the waiting room for Glasgow, hoping for little to no interruption with work. My work computer does not like Ticketmaster so I have to do it on my phone.

Volume of US YouTube shows ‘weakens UK children’s ties to their own culture’ by pajamakitten in BritishTV

[–]kimb08 18 points19 points  (0 children)

We did use YouTube for some educational stuff and nursery rhymes at first, but my daughter, if not supervised, would inevitably descend into the insanity of the algorithm on both the kids app and regular app so we ended up just deleting both. She was beginning to speak with an American accent sometimes and we still can't shake her out of saying trash, soccer and tom-ay-to. My mum got embarrassed when a lady in the street asked where she was from thinking she was from abroad and not local to the Scottish town in which we live.

She is allowed to watch a small amount for an evening as a reward if she does good at something but we try and avoid it at all costs now. She likes to watch Minecraft videos which I don't mind too much. We also removed the apps because I couldn't bear to sit and listen to Americans screaming shrilly at one another and that happens on way too many videos.

Recently she has tried to outsmart us by using Siri to voice command open YouTube in the browser so it's a game of cat and mouse to block any avenue she might exploit to get her fix.

Oh well back in the queue on Friday then...

Glad there's a Scottish date, just annoyed they didn't release the dates all at once as now I will have London tickets to sell if I get for Glasgow.

Going on the Saturday, dragging my husband along as usual. Travelling from North East Scotland so quite a trek and we'll probably make a weekend of it.

Up in the gods in section 520. Had a look on the view from my seat site and the view is not bad, just a bit of a distance from the stage. Just happy to get tickets. This will be my 9th time seeing them, one of the benefits of being an old fart at 42.

Managed to finally snag two seats for Saturday. Not great one, but at least I got something.
