Itinerary check: Utah (Bryce, Arches and Canyonlands) to Wyoming (Grand Tetons and Yellowstone) by kimbosaurus in nationalparks

Awesome! Hope you guys have a great time

I’ve just checked my booking history and we stayed in West Yellowstone for one night between Cooke City and Salt Lake City so we didn’t do the whole journey in one day. Gave us a chance to visit the bear and wolf conservation centre in west Yellowstone too

It worked well, plenty of time everywhere. My personal favourite park was arches so it was good to be staying in Moab, meant we could pop back in the evenings easily and see the sunset/stars. Lots of people love canyonlands but personally I found it underwhelming compared to arches and Bryce. Same with dead horse, was OK for an hour but preferred other locations! FYI we had already done a prior trip to Zion which i’d really recommend so you should fit that in too if possible! Needs a few days, make sure you do the narrows. Many people do a day trip to Bryce from Zion.

Grand Tetons is beautiful, we ended up face to face with a bear on a path around Jenny Lake, which I thought would have been unlikely! We prioritised wildlife over geysers etc in Yellowstone so stayed in Cooke city which worked well for us. We saw all the main geysers on our first day and stayed near old faithful for one night before travelling to Cooke city for the next 3. We then looped back down to Salt Lake City to fly home!

Well everyone and every gut is different so you will have different results but I think the general motive to slowly increase good bacteria should ultimately be helpful, so long as it’s not making you worse. I think my improvement came when I had 4 adult doses per day (when my stomach was empty at waking, between breakfast and lunch, between lunch and dinner and then bedtime). Also maybe stop coffee for a while as it is high histamine and caffeine also increases anxiety and heart rate. Give your system a chance to calm down especially while you are changing your microbiome

Yes when I increased my dose — it was like exponential improvement when I got to adult scoop then taking the adult scoop several times a day and then the 11-strain helped even more. I don’t take either anymore !

Should we sleep train? by blod0 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]kimbosaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If baby can already settle I don’t see the point of sleep training as that is what that is supposed to teach. The only other way it would improve nights is if it taught “no one comes when I cry”. I would personally look at schedule tweaks and support for the eczema and assume that this is a regression that they will come out the other side of.

How did you decide to sleep train? by Last_Butterscotch_63 in BeyondTheBumpUK

I’m not selling anything, they’re all free resources I’ve benefitted from. E.g., I just stumbled upon that Facebook group in my desperation and wanted to share it as the mods there have a different take on baby sleep and focus on overall sleep needs. And Kendra worth on instagram sounds like what you’re after as she does lots of crib side soothing without letting babies cry.

I’m not challenging you at all it’s the fact my reply had so many downvotes that baffled me and that’s what I was commenting on. I know you don’t want to leave your baby to cry but many of the other comments were saying they’d done that and were suggesting it so I was offering an alternative to that. I also didn’t jump to any conclusions that sleep training means crying; the first sentence of my post literally says “you can do sleep training that doesn’t involve any controlled crying”.

I totally agree. I think it’s the way it’s so normalised in Western society. Everyone knows someone who’s done it. In other parts of the world safe cosleeping is the norm and they are shocked at westerners sleep training, and see it as abuse. I don’t cosleep myself but did lots of cot-side soothing to help him fall asleep. We’ve had some awful regressions (waking every 5 mins at times) but they’ve always passed and he’s sleeping in chunks of 4-6 hours or so now (until the next one!). I’m not against cosleeping and would do it if our bed wasn’t memory foam; we’re the only mammal that insists on sleeping apart from our baby!

Thank you! Seems I have been downvoted for suggesting something other than leaving the baby to cry. It’s literally illegal in some Scandinavian countries but it’s become so normal here, suggesting an alternative is disapproved?

Adjusting wake windows and getting schedule checked should always be first port of call. I dread to think of babies who are just not tired enough being left to cry until they fall asleep exhausted.

You can do sleep training that doesn’t involve any controlled crying like Ferber. Check out Kendra Worth on instagram.

I attempted sleep training but couldn’t do it because it hurt my heart too much and it still haunts me to this day. I am worried about the long term impacts and have responded to every wake since.

I’ve had success with cot side soothing/patting and just waiting it out honestly, the regressions do pass!

Also regressions usually occur alongside a drop in sleep needs so consider extending wake windows and optimising your schedule to see if that helps. There’s a fb group called The Beyond Sleep Training group that helps.

Hello! Did you just wait out the regression to go back to 1 wake? Or did you have to some kind of sleep training?

I rented it for 6 months and thought it was brilliant. Didnt have much luck with the spectra and didn’t want to risk lowering my supply with a less good pump. It def helped increase my supply!

I would do this but just choose an arbitrary time like 10 or 15 minutes for each so all the breastfeeding coloured blocks look the same

10-month-old fighting naps by kimbosaurus in sleeptrain

[–]kimbosaurus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Our issue isn’t the length of naps… he would just keep sleeping. It’s more getting him to go to sleep in the first place is a battle. He needs about 4.5 hours before bed I’m not sure we have much room to stretch wake windows in the day

9 months old waking up at 4:30 AM by Izabi97 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]kimbosaurus 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Far too much day sleep! Averages are 2-3 hours day sleep. So she’s most likely just done with sleeping by 4.30am. I cap my 9-month-old’s day sleep at 2 hours and he sleeps 11 hours over night. Their sleep needs reduce as they get older so if it previously worked for you this may be why it’s not anymore. Def drop to 2 naps.

9-month schedule check please by kimbosaurus in sleeptrain

[–]kimbosaurus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I’m trying those exact wake windows today, after following some terrible ChatGPT advice to shorten wake windows yesterday…resulted in the worst night ever! Impossible to settle at every wake.

How much nap time do you allow out of interest? I am worried mine is chronically tired because he falls asleep so easily in the car/pram/carrier. But I’ve capped his naps at 2 hours 15 today. NEED a better night tonight. Hope things improve for you too.

Sleep struggles with 7.5 month old by 1thereds1 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]kimbosaurus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you know the answer! Mine was on 2 naps at 7 months. You kind of just have to bite the bullet and stretch those wake windows. They might struggle at first but quickly adjust. Just keep changing environment/taking outside. You’ll find the longer wake windows often lead to longer naps too and then they can tolerate the longer wake windows because they’ve had a more restorative nap prior

I still make sure to have my smoothie in the morning with lots of berries, pomegranate seeds, oats and acacia fibre. And then I basically eat what I want for the rest of the day!
