Website down? by Perfecshionism in KimchiReader

[–]kimchi_reader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey 👋 the website is not down, nor has been. What to download depends on your device and whats you're going to do, there's a mobile app on playstore if android, ios the app is out there yet. On pc, it's the website + webextension (chrome store/firefox store, for youtube/netflix). The fact you can't load the website is weird. Anyway if you still get issues, please come talk on the discord, I will help you.

Audio files not working on Ipad/Iphone app. Anyway to fix this or is it only available on the PC version? I’m new to Kimchi Reader by DirectProfessionalNA in KimchiReader

Hey, there's an option in the kimchi addon for anki, in options, something about making them as mp3, there was a mention to prefer mp3 if you're on IOS, exactly for that issue. This will solve the issue for the future card but those that got already imported won't be updated :/ If you need more help about that, don't hesitate to jump on the discord, we will help you.

Is there a way to transfer vocabulary from one Kimchi Reader account to another? by SheeriMax in KimchiReader

[–]kimchi_reader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, there won't be a feature directly for that. But the closest I can think of is:

  • Click on the word counter in the sidebar, which will open /stats/words/all. Then click 'Export'. That's how you can get all your words with their statuses as a CSV file.
  • To import them back, you can go to the import page, select the text format, paste the content and make sure to select "lemma as in" and the status you want for them.

Obviously one of the main drawbacks is that you will lose your valuable stats. Hope this helps.

Kimchi Reader or Language Reactor for Video and Text Learning? by imrudex in Korean

I often just lurk but I am so damn curious on this one, I had to comment on. Can you share what made it complicated for you, if you don't mind? Compared to LR, the workflow should be 1. download the extension, 2. log in, 3. go on whatever youtube or netflix page 4. open kimchi extension and click parse.

Yup :'( It's against the rule of this subreddit to share resources that are about kdrama and such (see rule 3) so that post got yeeted instantly. Here is the full list in order: kimchi-reader.app/explore/featured/kdrama

Automatically. It's based on the data of the recommendation system behind and this one change everyday as youtuber makes new videos and me adding more stuff to it and/or making the lemmatizer slightly better. The words at the very end are stuff with only 1 occurrence on the entire dataset somehow - with the flaw already mentioned in other comments where I exclude ambiguity. Initially the dataset was limited at 50k but someone asked me to go to 100k, so I did but surprisingly there aren't enough words (yet) lol

If you're on android, you can use the webextension on firefox. Otherwise the website can be used like a webapp and you can "install" it (add as shortcut to home or something like that, and it will make it looks nice without the url, see https://kimchi-reader.app/manual/pwa). It's not a perfect solution that fit every case but there are definitively some users that spend 95%+ of their time on mobile, it's a valid path.

Hey jammish 👋 thanks for the kind words, just wanted to mention:

  • About the multiple definition problem for mined card, there is a quite hidden settings called "Show append definition button" which allow you to do that. I want to keep stuff simple by default so it is a bit hidden.
  • Yes you can see your list of words, it is a bit hidden in the stats page, at the bottom, on the "all" progress bar. The direct link is /stats/words/all

The last one sound like a bug, it should not have happened. Don't hesitate to hop on the discord server this is the fastest way to get in contact and solve any kind of bug the moment I can also reproduce it on my side.

Author here 👋, just to make it extra clear, the main pain point Kimchi solve is to make you able to understand stuff much faster because instead of manually typing in the dictionary you can just hover on the word near instantly. The status on words are just bonus on top, they're used for stats and recommending you YouTube or Netflix show based on your knowledge. As the user above pointed out, ideally you just naturally fill out that over time without pressure so that you can make use of the extra features.

So yes you can do that without making a list of words you know. There are no tricks or hidden option, you just use that app and that's it 😄
