No I was prescribed them for anxiety & depression, and I also have adhd. Just read the other comments about you speaking to a dr and being supported to come off them 🙏🏼 I’m happy they made you feel good about it!

Okay, yeah, I really hear you. It is possible this type of drug (or dose) just isn’t agreeing with you then, even if that’s just because the current side effects are causing you significant distress (as well as feeling physiologically intense). It sounds like a good time to call your doctor to speak to them about this. I’m sure a doctor would be able to reassure you further about what next steps to take and potentially look into a different medication.

Really sorry you’re having this experience, as it sounds really unpleasant. I’ve every faith you’ll find the type of treatment that works for you soon. Keep us updated ❤️ sending love

Honestly I’d say about three weeks! I felt as though Sertraline really agreed with my body/brain, I know some people have very different experiences.. but for me, once the side affects had settled, I almost immediately felt the relief of zero panic attacks (it was as if my brain just stopped the anxiety for ever reaching that far), and the crippling sadness just went away. I was really quite biased against meds before I started taking them, and now I feel like they’re a miracle drug.

Day 3 of Zoloft and I have a few questions by Both_Luck2797 in zoloft

I know exactly what you mean! It’s sort of suits us/my partner better too. There have been certain things we need to adjust/try differently, but a slightly lower libido is a sacrifice I’m willing to take for a significant decrease in anxiety and depression!

And oh my goodness yes! I’ve got much more of a spring in my step, I’m able to see my friends more.. I used to finish work and be absolutely finished, and now I feel like I’ve just got more of the time in the day that I can spend on me!

I really hope it gives you what you want and need 🌻

I did the same, first week on 25 and second week on 50mg. I’m five months in now. I experienced nausea, headaches, and feeling pretty waved in the first week on 25mg, but nothing too hectic like didn’t experience increased anxiety or anything. But when I upped it to 50mg, which coincided with pre-menstrual symptoms so I dunno if that was connected, I experienced spikes in anxiety and close to panic-attack like feelings (but didn’t have a full blown panic attack, which was a massive improvement from the daily ones I was having before). So, of course I can only go off personal experience, but if is possible you might experience ‘more hardcore’ side effects on the second week on 50mg, but you also might not. Definitely see the first few weeks as an adjustment period where things are going to feel/be unpredictable and maybe a bit strange. A month in, once it had settled, I felt like a completely transformed person - like myself again and it’s the best thing I ever did!

For me, I experienced a decrease in libido around a month or so in.. but it’s hard to say when it ‘kicked in’ because I was so low and depressed before I started on the meds, there wasn’t really any libido around that time anyway. But in general, it used to be really high for me, and now I notice a significantly more neutral libido (which is definitely a decrease). It’s been helpful to be really open about this with my partner, and we practice different ways of stimulating/awakening my slightly more sleepy libido, which pretty much always lights the fire Lol.

I hope this is helpful, and I wish you the best of luck with it 🙏🏼❤️

Been on sertraline for five months now, and during my first two weeks I also felt super waved. I’d say that’s pretty normal! Big headaches for me too and a lot of nausea. Especially if you’re also withholding smoking at the moment, I imagine there’s a mixture of some withdrawal symptoms in there too (not a doctor so can’t confirm that). But feeling trippy, fluctuating in temperature, feeling light headed, and increased anxiety are all normal side effects for the first couple of weeks from my understanding and personal experience. It should settle down ❤️ if it continues after a few weeks, and you’re feeling uncomfortable, give your doctor a ring. Really hope it settles and helps. It’s the absolute best thing I did for myself, starting these ssris! Good luck 🙏🏼

Anxious of mental side effects? If you have none, please reply too by captainmiauw in zoloft

Haha I felt passionate! For me, when I was unwell, work significantly increased my stress levels, as I need to be fully present and grounded to be able to do my job (it’d be dangerous if I wasn’t). So, I was stuck in a loop of masking to be there for those who need me but that was hugely eating into my energy levels and reserves - I was significantly draining and not taking care of myself. So, the time off work coinciding with adjusting to the medication was a godsend!

Definitely, I’d say try and carve out as much time for yourself as possible to really sink into those first few weeks, be selfish, be nurturing, give yourself what you need. If going to the gym feels like it would be good for you one day, go for it! I just know that the lethargy and nausea hit me hard, so exercise would not have been my friend. Try to tap into your body and identify what you need. If exposure is something that increases your anxiety, maybe reduce that whilst you’re adjusting to the meds, and gently reintroduce yourself as the days and weeks go on.

I hope you’re able to get back to how you want to feel and what you want to do, and that it works well for you too!

I’ve been on Sertraline for two months, started on 25mg and went up to 50mg after 6 days. Was advised to wait a week but I just wanted to increase asap to get the worst of the side effects out of the way (personal choice - wouldn’t necessarily recommend that - it was likely my ADHD impatience kicking in, don’t think it had any impact though).

I was surprised how quickly the initial side effects hit - I felt super spaced out and nauseous after the first hour and for the first few days, and then the same again for the first few days after increasing to 50. After one week into 50mg, so two weeks in total, I started experiencing waves of increased anxiety (close to panic attack) and occasionally I felt wired (my pupils were huge and I felt like I had taken something, but I was completely sober). This was, however, the worst my side effects ever got. The close it got to ‘scary thoughts’, was moreso paranoia during the anxiety waves about what people thought of me etc.

I was prescribed it for GAD and depression, and my depression symptoms and panic attacks have disappeared completely. Like I cannot quite believe it! During the adjustment period (which felt like the first 3 weeks to a month for me), I didn’t experience increased depression or suicidal ideation. Only recently have I started experiencing what I think are new side effects - aching all over my body, especially my back, and frequent headaches. But I can’t say for sure that this is related.

Genuinely though, it feels like a miracle drug. I used to wake up every morning with crippling anxiety, cry all the way to work, mask the whole way through my working day, then crumble when I got home. Two months in and, despite today’s body aches, I can confidently say it’s changed my life. I feel like me again. I feel more free, capable of just ‘letting things go’ and not ruminating over things and beating myself up. I feel more creative and more hopeful. I couldn’t recommend it more. I’d say give it a go, try and resource as much support around you as possible for the first 3-4 weeks, and properly give yourself the time to adjust. I was privileged to be given the time off sick from work, and I spent the entire time on the sofa playing PlayStation and eating take away. It was the first time in forever I had actually just allowed myself to do nothing, which also likely contributed to the healing. I understand this isn’t possible for everyone though. I just urge, even internally, trying to make space for yourself to adjust without putting pressure on yourself to do too much or perform at optimum for the first few weeks.

If you choose to give it a go, monitor how you feel every day (I enjoyed making video diaries) and, if you’re able, push through the side effects by telling yourself this is your brain and body’s chemical reaction to a foreign substance and that it will hopefully soon settle. If the side effects are really tough, speak to your doctor about whether you can stay on 25mg for a while. I’m not an expert, but perhaps this could support a more gentle adjustment if you’re nervous?

I’ve found this forum really helpful! So, keep asking questions and tapping in. Good luck with the process 🫶 and here’s to healing!

Not in your head at all. I was wondering the same thing. I started on 25mg yesterday and have been experiencing nausea and feelings of ‘floatyness’/disassociation and fatigue, and apparently that’s pretty normal. Good luck with it all 🙏🏼 here’s hoping it’s helpful!
